  1. I've had zero issues with KSP and win 10. Actually, there's more functionality since Win10 natively supports screen recording. This means you don't need a program like FRAPS to record your gameplay if you're into Youtube.
  2. I see what you mean... How about the official KSP twitter? That's got some more relevant content.
  3. They should just put a little box similar to the Featured Streamers on the forum's homepage with a twitter feed. It'd be easy and would solve a lot of these issues!
  4. Finally! I cannot wait to fill my ram up with all those sweet mods! Edit: I think it might be time to upgrade to 16gb of ram.
  5. Your main issue is going to be driver support. Most hardware companies don't release drivers for Linux as often making them outdated and potentially leading to lower performance. Steam OS itself is actually very lightweight and can offset some of the driver disadvantages. You'll find that Steam OS will perform similarly to Windows on high-end games such as GTA 5 and others.
  6. The only time I've needed a heatshield is when I've aerobraked into Jool or Eve's atmosphere. It's difficult to make reentries feel like those on earth when the entire system is scaled down so much.
  7. Here's an easy way to get the information we need to troubleshoot. 1. Press the windows key + R -the run program should pop up 2. In the text field type "dxdiag" without the "" 3. Press ok 4. A popup asking about drivers signatures may pop up, just press no. 5. A window titled DirectX Diagnostic Tool should appear. From that window, either screenshot the System Information field and post it here or manually type the information.
  8. To fix that, your best bet would be to temporarily remove the text on the top and then run it through some anti-aliasing effects found in GIMP. Once it looks good you can re-add the text but I'd recommend a slightly larger font. You really do have a nice flag there!
  9. I get this as well. When I get below 20fps I'll tend to overcorrect the course of my ships and bounce around a lot when trying to steer. I usually shoot for above 30fps when doing any kinds of flights. Below that and its just too bad to play. I do not like my games being reduced to a glorified slideshow.
  10. What are your specs? It's usually a cpu's single thread performance that is bottlenecking KSP. Memory is usually a non-issue unless you're heavily into modding on the 32-bit program. Edit: Went and ran my own test with a 200 part ship. With my own pc (See sig for specs), I consistently achieved around 40fps and had a heap size of 0 MB. This shows that fps and heap size are not connected in any meaningful way. Performance issues will likely stem from another source, most likely that being the cpu.
  11. For me, my greatest weaknesses are precision atmospheric landings and SSTOs. I used to be able to make a decent LKO SSTO with some cargo capacity but lately with all the aero changes and whatnot it's just been difficult. I also have a bad habit of over-engineering spacecraft and usually have to scrap a project half-way through and rebuild from scratch since its becoming too much of a monstrosity.
  12. Worst part about Blender is the terrible UI. It's a cluttered mess where the majority of useful functions are unintuitive keyboard shortcuts. With that said, it's free and extremely powerful so I can let it slide. So yeah, OP, for coding you'll want to look into Unity and C#. You're lucky since C# isn't actually too difficult to get a feel for unlike C++ which requires a lot more knowledge and time to figure out. Additionaly, Unity has got a massive userbase so you'll be able to find plenty of help for coding with it. It think a mod like you are describing would be very cool! Might give RTG's even more use since you won't have to worry about them failing after a few years like you would with batteries. I wish you the best of luck!
  13. It is possible but is it really worth the hassle? For some large capital ship requiring an aerobrake, then yes, I do believe it is worth it. However, I think that using regular heat shields will be enough for the majority of scenarios. So yes, it's possible but not too practical.
  14. Well designing the rocket is half the fun! It might detract from the experience if you got one of us to show you how to do it! If you really just want to dive into the actual flight experience then I'd head over to the Spacecraft Exchange subforum to pick up some craft files.
  15. I prefer living on the edge of KSP's RAM limits. Currently, I'm having a really hard time getting the B9 pack to load with Astronomer's visuals and all my other mods. I think I'm spending more time installing mods than actually playing...
  16. CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k overclocked to 4.5Ghz GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 in 2-way SLI RAM: 8GB of Corsair Vengeance at 1600Mhz SSD: Intel 120GB (Don't remember the details) HDD: 1.5TB of storage disks All running on a MSI z77a-g45 motherboard. I built it myself a couple years ago and this baby is still running strong! I'm hoping to upgrade to a mini-ITX rig by the end of this year.
  17. It might just be the perspective but picture number 2 appears to show the wings angled down, IE the right side of the wing in the picture is lower than the left side. I think this is what's causing your blue lift vector to be inverted which would cause all sorts of trouble similar to what you've experienced. Double check that the wings are perfectly horizontal. Also, welcome to the forums and congrats on your first post!
  18. Well this looks awesome! I think this will prove to be lots of fun!
  19. Congratulations Squad! You guys have earned it!
  20. One thing I've noticed about most KSP android apps is that they are highly functional but do not look pleasing and can be difficult to navigate. Please PLEASE use material design for this! The swipe-in drawer would really look nice when combined with the card UI design. Also, I'm not sure of the difficulty to implement but a transfer-window calculator would be nice. Perhaps you could find a way to include something like this: http://alexmoon.github.io/ksp/ I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes!
  21. I use FAR. I enjoy the advantages it gives to sleek craft which I like building. Also, the surface control failures add an extra challenge to aircraft design which I appreciate.
  22. The main advantage to the RAPIER engines is that you only have to put 1 engine on rather than 2. This saves weight and can help smaller craft reach orbital speeds. If your building larger SSTOs for interplanetary travel then dual nukes is probably the way to go.
  23. It seems your running it on a laptop. Make sure you are either: A) Plugged in to a power source Running on High Performance battery mode. Laptops automatically decrease performance to save battery life when disconnected from power which I'm betting is the case here.
  24. I'm downloading the preview now and am planning on trying it out inside a virtual machine. I'd rather not risk my desktop to an operating system in early development. From the screenshots I've seen, it looks to be pretty good but I'll report back!
