  1. Indeed, with a bit of modification the Ker5 and Ker1A can very easily stand up to the stresses of 0.23 operation. I've posted the original .craft files to my SpacePort account (under the series title of "Ye Olde Stocke Crafte") for anyone who wants to fool around with them. EDIT: Now that SpacePort has sadly bit the dust, the Ye Olde Stocke Crafte pack can now be found on Curse. EDIT AGAIN: Now updated to 0.90, and pretty much future-proof now that the devs have announced that they're not going to be significantly changing existing stock mechanics.
  2. The Kraken has possessed your Kerbals. Ia! Ia! Kr'k'n Fthagn! Ph'nglui mglw'nfah Kr'kn R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn!
  3. Hmm. Personally, I think the situation boils down to something like this: The only ways to brake are by engine or heat shield, neither of which are in good condition. I'm personally liking the Aerobrake/Burnbrake Combo.
  4. It might be possible to design a craft that, rather than relying on asparagus staging, can get to orbit non-asparagus, but then add asparagus capability to it for efficiency. If one or more pumps do fail, the rocket can just switch off crossfeed and complete the orbit normally, with the pumps simply giving an increased margin of safety.
  5. How about the thicker the atmosphere on an unmapped planet, the greater the distortion, because telescopes trying to peer through the muck of, say, Eve's atmosphere would only see the not-rendered-in-the-game-yet cloud layer.
  6. It is possible to make very tiny planes powered by nothing but ion engines and solar panels. As expected, they're quite efficient, but they have little thrust.
  7. My first flight was in the 1.8.3 demo, with the surprisingly newb-friendly Kerbal 1A. Good times. Never got to the Mun in the demo, but managed to put several dozen Jebs into highly elliptical orbits with the Kerbal 5.
  8. Nice to meet you, Rekilein. May many mostly-safe Jool gravity assists await you.
  9. There, got the .craft files from the demo. Now I'm going to TEST them! Muahahahahaha!
  10. I'm not sure how old. The version shown on the main page is 0.18.3 so I think that's the one I need. Gonna download the demo now to at least get some good screenshots of it. I might also try and emulate some of the other "scrapped" craft from the demo.
  11. At this point, even just a screenshot of the craft in the VAB would be nice so I can try and replicate it.
  12. Is your ship manned? If not, is there power? Make sure the answer is "yes".
  13. I recall, from back in the days when I was playing the demo, that there was a very nice tri-stack-style ship that was quite capable of orbit and came stock with the game. I forget the name, but I remember it had the common "Kerbal [number]" arrangement. I would like to know: It's a nice design, so why did it go away? In fact, a number of the Squad-built ships available in the demo are missing from the full game's list. If anyone has a download for a (preferably 0.23 compatible) version of this ship, please don't hesitate to speak up! Also don't hesitate to speak if you know just why it was removed.\ EDIT: Both of the ships from the demo are now available on Curse (I myself posted them there). http://www.curse.com/shareables/kerbal/220931-ye-olde-stocke-crafte
  14. As someone said, it's to reduce burn times, but there's another thing: I have a tug that's basically a pod and fuel tanks, with a normal docking port on the front and a Senior docking port on the back. With just one engine and correct CoM and CoT alignment (which I always require), there's not enough space for the Senior. Having two side-mounted nacelles allows me to just put the Senior on the bottom of the tank without compromising the CoM-CoT relationship.
  15. Discovering that parts don't connect on more than one node was one of my major ARRGHWTF@#$% moments in the demo, and I agree wholeheartedly that it needs to be added to the game.
  16. Derp. I guess I can blame that on my own mental habit of subconsciously correcting typos.
  17. Maybe a thing to add would be the more cylinder-looking gun on the A-10 Thunderbolt, possibly some sort of surface-attachable single-barreled machine gun.
  18. Might I ask where you got the guns? I've been looking for reasonably-sized aircraft machine guns.
  19. Mesa, Arizona. Where the heat causes your arms to fall off all by themselves.
  20. Well, it could be larger, but it'll get cropped. In short, pick a random picture and use that.
  21. My laptop. (My hand was there in preparation for typing this very response.) It's just as useful as anything else near me, I suppose. Not much good if the nuclear exchange includes high-altitude EMP bursts.
  22. You should have a folder called Firespitter or something like that in GameData, that's where all the stuff goes. In fact, the mod as it comes from the site should already have a GameData folder inside it with all the structure pre-prepared, so you can just drop that into the main KSP file and merge it.
  23. CCA. But actually, I think this would make me Bill, because the "stupidity" stat in the Astronaut Center appears to be mislabeled intelligence. Not sure about this, though. Bill looks mildly worried when, say, your rocket's periapsis is below the surface, but Bob will flip out at the slightest provocation.
  24. Personally I think that the Kerbals just have a somewhat unusual temperature scale: it's not Fahrenheit, Celsius, or Kelvin, but Kerbal. EDIT: Either that, or the thermometer is just unreliable. Not unlikely, considering how iffy Kerbal engineering tends to be.
