Do you use designations for your spacecraft?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to ouion's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My ships just follow the common "Lunar Orbiter I", with the upgraded version being "Lunar Orbiter II". However, every once and awhile a ship/plane/rover series will get a special name added on to it due to some occurance in the field, or resemblance to something else. Some of the more recent ones i can remember... 1. A jeep with a tendency to flip over, unable to right itself. Nicknamed the "Turtle" 2. An APC transport, that due to a wrongly binded action group was dropped out of a cargo plane flying 20k meters over the sea. Survived impact (Mostly, was still functional) Nicknamed the "Water Fall" 3. Some weird tiny Probe/Drone thing that's sitting in an old sandbox file that i don't remember making... Nicknamed the "ADATS" for some reason... Why it's named that who knows!? (I'm assuming it's related to the Canadian ADATS weapons system... but why...?) -
Best things to watch on TV while playing KSP
Rainbow-Dashie replied to RocketBlam's topic in KSP1 Discussion
After a terrible disaster in one of my missions, I'll watch a clip from Gravity, Apollo 13 or 18, that scene in Starship Troopers where modern capital ships somehow get taken out by slow moving rocks (Your telling me those things didn't have any CIWS systems? Really?). Seeing ships that are suffering worse fates then mine and my Kerbals makes me feel a little better inside, "At least we didn't lose 200,000 people to a fricken rock!" -
Phone numbers on radiators?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to Mad Rocket Scientist's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Stupid SCP Foundation leaving out the fun stuff.... Adding to the list of things KSP has taught me, "How Conspiracy Theories Form!" -
I put in a few custom flags, but really think the white rectangle behind the icon is a bit of an eye sore when on a capsule. Is there a way to make the background of the "flag", in this case the white background not appear on the capsules? I tried removing the background through other programs and then re-uploading but that didn't seem to work.

Somebody needs to photo-shop one of those UFOs onto the "I want to believe" poster 0_0

My missions fail in one of two places... #1. Kerbin Orbit, when I use almost all my fuel achieving orbit and realize "this thing is not making it to Duna" and then de-orbit and try again... #2. On the final descent, when we fail to take action at Step 1, and realize much to late... "this thing is not landing in one piece 0_0"

KSP bumper stickers T-shirt slogans

Spend ALL my funds on one longshot mission? (ultra-hard mode)
Rainbow-Dashie replied to xtoro's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I once did an all or nothing Manned Mission to Duna... left me with literally 70 dollars after the ship launched... Then I watched in terror as my entire Space Agency's budget fell out of the sky in pieces while in orbit... Damn space debris... -
We all have that one thing (or multiple things...) that we just can't manage to do in KSP (Scott Manley withstanding) . No matter how many tutorials we watch, how many guides we read, how many times we try, how many different ways we go about doing it... we just fall flat, either due to our own incompetence, stubbornness, mistakes, bad luck, or the Kraken just looks down on your work, and says "LOL Nope!"... So what is your "Achille's Heel" of KSP? Can't dock? Can't catch asteroids? Can't reach a certain Moon? Can't make airplanes? The one thing I can't do... I can never precisely engineer landers right... What i mean is, I can't set them up so the staging works out like i want it to. I either use up fuel to quickly, and end up having to use my final descent stage just to get out of Kerbin orbit, or I'm still on my lifter stage slowing down for a Mun Landing. I can never get it right, with the lifter stage lifting, the decent stage descending, the return stage returning... it never happens. SOMETHING always ends up doing a job it wasn't ever supposed to do. No matter how much I tweak, do the math and calculations... just can't figure it out, either due to bad piloting or engineering... who knows?

What is the rationale behind playing completely stock?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to falloutaddict's topic in KSP1 Discussion
1. The hassle of mods breaking after every big update 2. If a "Part Mod" stops working and I have to delete it, I lose every ship that used one of those parts. 3. Never had a moment where I thought the game lacked something enough, to require me to find a mod. 4. Mods are a plot to control the cybernet by the Illuminati 5. To lazy to go through the limited trouble of installing mods 6. Scared I'll break something 7. Enjoy KSP perfectly fine in stock form. -
Kerbals too tough? (EVA self-rescue from munar orbit)
Rainbow-Dashie replied to Snark's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I actually like the durable Kerbals, sure it's totally unrealistic but I like it. Makes them seem a bit more "Kerbal". Reentry heart I could see being more of a problem for them, havnt actually tried to send a Kerbal through the atmosphere unprotected.... And the Reduced jetpack fuel/Power I could agree with, but wouldn't exactly want to happen. I just like my squishy little durable kerbals. -
This reminds me a bit of the debacle over the Swedish STRV series of vehicles What would you call this thing? The Swedes call it a tank, and by definition and construction, it is a tank. Most other armies would call it a tank Destroyer or Assault Gun, which by definition, it could also be. So, is thing awesome piece of Modern Viking Hardware a tank or or assault gun? Depends what you want to do with it. If you want to make an SSTO with drop tanks, it's an SSTO to you, and maybe a Plane to others, and a shuttle to some. If it does what you want it to do, and fits your definition of what it's supposed to be, nobody can argue with that. But it may not fir their definition of the subject.

I picked Valentina to pilot my first Mun landing in my new career mode, figured "let the rookie have a go"... I underestimated the amount of fuel I needed (been awhile since I've played KSP fully)... and ran out about 10k meters up, still going 200m/s.... so I tried to have Val bail from the plummeting lander and try to slow herself down with her RCS pack.... Somehow she survived a pretty hard impact into the Munar surface, and now I guess I have to send Jeb to rescue her... Typical woman (plz don't hurt me, I joke D: ) On one hand... first female piloted Mun Landing fails. On the other hand, first pilot I ever had to survive a 10,000 meter fall into the surface of the Mun...

I'm a big fan of the Yogscast, pretty much watch one of the member's daily. One day, Duncan of the yogscast did a bit of a sandbox playthrough of KSP, landing on the Mun and Duna. I had the demo by the third video and bought the game the the fifth

I personally like tehmattguy's the best so far. http://i.imgur.com/LgtRSmT.png http://i.imgur.com/dcjAoxP.jpg I do kind of want Valentina to be "tomboyish" as opposed to " overly girly-girly".

Have you ever had a non-intentional collision in orbit?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to PTNLemay's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I've only had a orbital collision once... but it was one heck of a doozy... Had a nice little space station under construction, was on about the 7th module with 4 kerbals on board, with 2 more piloting the rocket docked to the ship to transfer crew (Jeb was on the station, and I really wanted him for my first manned Duna Mission). Everything was fine... Then the plot of "Gravity" happened... an old failed spaceplane project came out of of the black (ironically one of the shuttles I tried to use for my station missions). I remember it was a unmanned test probe, made it to orbit, but ran out of power and I had forgotten the solar panels. So it ended up floating around dead in space with no way of controlling it. Working on docking a new part to my station when I see the cursed spaceplane approaching... first saw it around 1.2km away... next thing i know... KABLAMMO! Stations in pieces... Luckily nobody died, the second thing up to that station was the escape pods (which also luckily survived impact) so the 4 man crew was safely jettisoned down to kerbin. The shuttle on the other hand took a massive hit, lost 2 engines, one of its wings, and was pretty much uncontrollable, so those guys spent a few days in orbit until I could get up to them... (you think I would have learned, but that empty broken shuttle was left in orbit...) and to this day, I STILL can't be bothered to clean up the debris in my orbit (and just deleting it feels like cheating) -
Ahhhhhh! Kill it! Kill it! Kill it with holy fire!
-
Mine follow sort of the American way of naming weapons and stuff, starts out as a formal name like "M4E8 Sherman" but the "Kerbals" call it "Sherman Easy Eight". My rockets will start out at "M1 LKO-A" (Model One, Low Kerbin Orbit - Autonomous) which is now known as the "M1 Lakota"

Do you feel KSP is ready for 1.0?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to hoojiwana's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Even if it's not ready for release (i personally think its okay, and ready to go), it couldn't be much worse then other "Finished Games" (I'm looking at you AC:Unity). -
Moho, Dres, Eeloo... No Atmosphere, No Moons, No Game
Rainbow-Dashie replied to CalMacDa's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I have yet to get past Eve or Duna.... and have yet to return a craft from either... I want a return manned mission to Duna before I got anywhere else -
I follow the Yogscast, and downloaded the demo after "Duncan" did about 2 KSP videos, and bought it by video 4
-
Level 2.33 i guess, made it to Duna and Eve (one way trip) but never built an SSTO, tried a few mods (Kethane, KW Rocketry, some others i cant remember) prefer vanilla, watched a bunch of Scott Manley videos to learn it, but eventually figured it out and don't need them anymore.

18t (or less) Returnable Manned Mun Lander
Rainbow-Dashie replied to WanderingKid's topic in KSP1 Discussion
18t Mun Mission 0_0, It took a 17.5t ship for me to get into orbit around kerbin, at even then it just barely made it to a 70k orbit to complete the contract, and the only way it got back down was the force of the decupler on the crew capsule managed to knock the orbit down to 67k -
I dont use the debug menu part clipper, that feels to cheaty for me, but clipping i can do normally i will do for looks and asthetics only, I won't clip 5 engines inside each other to improve performance or something. (I will make cool looking engine clusters though)
-
I don't choose missions based on names, but I do choose the "teams" based on names (I almost never do solo-kerbal missions, minimum crew of 3 usually.) Like, Jeb, Bill and Bob are the usual bunch. Then maybe (making up random names to make a point ), Tompson, Homspon, and Johnson will be another, and maybe Lumin, Trumin, and Flewmin
