My First Mun Landing, I had tried for weeks to get into space, and then orbit, and then I shot towards the Mun! After a few attempts where I ran out of fuel before getting into it's SoI, I finally got there, and crashed about 5 times.... at which point I would start over again... (didnt know about quicksaves...) Then came the day... I had enough fuel to get there... I didn't run out of fuel during the descent.... and I touched down on to the surface of the Mun, at which point the lander tipped over, not allowing Bob kerman to go on EVA.... and I cheered and yelled so loud the neighbors thought I was being murdered!

It took me quite a few tries to even get into Space! orbit was another couple dozen rockets... but then I found out you could put stuff.... *Drumroll* On the Sides! So that got rid of the 100% stacked stage rockets....

Do the scene load times keep you away from 0.21.1?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to Benie's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I find the 3 seconds loading screens a tiny bit annoying... but that little problem is completely overshadowed by all the great things in the game. -
Name: Rainbow-Dashie World Preference: Mun, Minimus, and Duna (I am a bit of a noob) Character Name: Rainbow Kerman I am a bit of a noob at KSP still, but I can do some more complex Mun landings, get to minimus, and I have gotten close to landing on Duna, (got to the SoI, but ran out of electricity) Docking is something I havn't done yet, but I have gotten close, and feel i could do it with a bit of time. I'll be more then happy to take some of the smaller jobs, landing something on the Mun, get a rover to Duna or something, orbit minimus, leave the big stuff to the pros

"SAS? What the heck is that? pfffft, I don't need any of that!"

I crashed a colony ship into a derelict space station awhile back... my orbit wasn't to debris filled though, most of the rockets I make can get to orbit without jettisoning parts. I guess it was a huge rocket ship, and a huge space station floating around and sooner or later they were going to meet!

When I first started, after the initial I'm going to get this freakin thing past 20,000 meters! I set my goal on getting a satellite into orbit. But what really made it fun for me was, my dad was playing this as well, and we were having a bit of a space race, he got into space first, and orbited the planet first... but I got the first satellite into orbit, and landed on the Mun first, so I think I win! So if you can get another person into the game, have a bit of friendly competition!

Would you delete stock parts to stay under the 4 Gb limit?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to nhnifong's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't use mods to much, the only ones I have installed are KAS (because I wanted to make a rover, capable of moving fuel around, plus its cool to make drop ships ) and Kethane ( for some reason, i love to mine, and horde resources, plus it gives me some form of a purpose in sandbox, ill set up a mining colony here, make a spaceport refueling thingy here...) Plus, I use most of the stock parts, i've used all engines, utility, pods, aerodynamic, and science parts at some point, and use em quite often. I use about 3/4 of the structural parts, there are a few in their I havn't tried to use yet, but im sure I will one day -
That feeling of accomplishment.
Rainbow-Dashie replied to CalculusWarrior's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I to am horrible with space planes... I finally managed to build something that can get off the ground before the end of the runway... but it didn't have the power to get to higher altitudes... And I love how this game gives you that sense of accomplishment, it makes me feel like I actually achieved something worth cheering about, it's not just another match of Battlefield won, or another victory in Civ 5, I freakin' landed on the Mun, after spending weeks trying to get there!!! It's nice to have a game where hard work, and dedication actually pay off for something. -
I have yet to dock anything... I've tried a few times... but to no avail... Though I did get to within 14 kilometers of my target, and i think i might have been able to dock with it if my ship didn't run out of fuel. I had to watch a few videos to learn how, and i think I understand the concept of how you would dock, I just need to work on actually carrying the mission out. As with anything it takes the right teacher, tools, and a bit of practice.

Well the problem I'm having is I can't get it installed in the first place, so I havn't actually used anything in it. I've looked over the forums, and a few guides on how to do it, but i just can't figure it out... I'm not the most tech-savy person in the world, so all of this /parts/ directory, nero-scrambler, photon mumbo jumbo just goes over my head... I just really need to know exactly what KAS file I grab, and exactly where I put it.

I've used "Kerbal" as a verb once or twice, in the same manner as "jury rigged"... "Whats that thing?" "Just something I kerbaled together." Or when your on the moon with a bunch of smashed up parts of rovers and crap... "just kerbal something together!" Those are about the only 2 times i've used it as a verb..

I've been trying to build some form of a "Speeder Bike/Hovercraft" thingy, but I can't seem to get my dang ship to hover... The plan was, for the first stage to fire normal facing rockets, and lift the craft a meter or two off the ground, then another set of rockets would fire the opposite direction, counter-acting the upward pushing rockets, which in my mind, would make the thing hover off the ground a bit. I tired an equal number of rockets going either way, but realized that the downward pushing rockets had gravity on their side, so reduced the number of those... But no matter what I try, the rocket will either continue flying upwards, or be pushed into the ground by the downward rockets... I can't seem to balance it out. I tried wings for a bit but they didn't improve much. So is there any trick to this, has anyone else tried to do this and got it to work? Would adding some more wings, or something help? Is there any way to calculate how many rockets I would need to counter each other out? ( If Pictures would help, I can try to post them)

Would you buy expansion packs for KSP? How much?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to ngianoplus's topic in KSP1 Discussion
If the DLC included something actually fun and useful, like new planets/moons, a ton of new parts, or resources or something, I would be willing to spend about 10 to 15 bucks (not spending more $ on a DLC then i did the actual game). If it were something like, edit kerbal's spacesuits! I wouldn't buy it... (unless if it was dirt cheap, at like 3 dollars) -
So far i'm at Zero, but Rosen Kerman is stranded on a Space Station in a 1.5 million meter Kerbin Orbit... if only i could dock... I had half a dozen plane crashes, but the things crashed soon after attempted take off, so they never got past 20m/s...

When I first started my plans for my first Mun landing, I had tried to build a ship to get me there, but instead got a bunch of failed designs, the 2 best were a smaller ship that couldn't even get into orbit, but was controllable, and a bigger rocket that could have gotten far out, but flipped, and spun and always crashed... So in typical Kerbal Fashion... I just took the 2 designs and strapped em together with a bunch of struts. And that became my first ship to crash into the Mun... Of course I forgot landing gear, power, RCS, SAS, an actual crew, a few stages were messed up, and decuplers were set up wrong... but it somehow got there!

I still find ascents exciting, don't exactly know why... I just like seeing the rockets fly up, speeding up, and wondering if they are going to blow up again...

What happened when you first landed on the Mun?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to rhj91's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My first actual landing came down nice and slow... touched down nicely... the kerbal did a moon walk... and got back in. Nothing exploded, so I assume i did something wrong... -
How useful do you find fueling stations?
Rainbow-Dashie replied to Valley's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm still pretty new to this game, and thus have not yet mastered the "putting large self-sufficient super ships into space" skills yet (i made one but it blew up in orbit) So i use smaller, simpler ships which work much better then any of the large ones i can build. I have a pretty decent ship im using, "The Wonderbolt", a nice 30-somethin part, 3 stage rocket. It can get into orbit easily, reach the mun and back, get into orbit around the Sun, and is pretty dang close to reaching Duna (might be able to if someone more experienced flew it). So to get that last little push to Duna, im building a refueling station, so i can top off The Wonderbolt's tank, and make it to Duna (probably a one way trip, but hey! first trip there!). So for me, and my smaller, less impressive ships, having a refueling station in Kerbin's Orbit increases my rockets range a bit more, plus docking is just awesome. -
I launched a mission to refuel, my refueling base on the Mun... I was bringing it down nice and slow, until I ran out of fuel and the refueling tanker made a nice crash landing right on top of my Mun Base...

I recently built a VTOL (Vertical take off and landing) Lander called Pegasus-6 (the first 5 failed to get off the ground), which I had planned to use for my first mission to Duna. I was taking it out on a test run to the Mun and back and well.... the "Vertical Take off" part worked well enough, sadly the "landing part" was slightly less useful.... there was trouble when i switched from the horizontal engines, to the vertical ones for landing. The horizontal ones were supposed to turn off as the vertical went on, but didn't work out that way, so the ship was sent flying forward until i manually shut them down. Long story short, it crashed but survived (it was one heck of a cool landing, skidded on the ground for a few meters, shedding debris behind it). so got the crew out, and sent one of the boring old, tried and tested Mun Landers to rescue em. The ship still has power, and enough fuel to re-orbit ( if 3 of the 4 engines weren't destroyed) and it is capable of taking off ( for about 5 meters before it skids the ground again). Pegasus-7 will hopefully not have this problem.
