SpaceX Autonomous SpacePort Drone Ship (ASDS) [1.2.X]
Stone Blue replied to sciencepanda's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Or stick some motors underneath it, and just launch it pointed at the sea... that worx too... -
^^ I can verify that that worx... I just tried it with over 30 different panels.... Just copy and save it to a .txt file, rename it with .cfg extension, place anywhere in your Gamedata folder, and BAM!...all solar panels are retractable....Even the HUGE Near Future OKEB-500, which comes advertised as non-retractable once extended...

What happend to the Space:1999 Eagle?

OK...that answers THAT question then... I realise its certainly not a DIRECT correlation, but I've got to think that just having to load all the extra files alone, WILL certainly use more RAM than if they werent loaded at all, and also cutting down on loading times abit... Hmmm... I certainly dont recall having that problem in pre-0.90... But then again, i started using the ALCOR, RPM, and several other IVA mods in 0.90, and many re-used or reqd. the stock files, so i quit deleting the Squad files...Maybe stock now handles IVAs differently, where they ARE required to even load parts that have them??... Oh well, still good stuff to know, thanx!
-
...and the internal temperatures... Yeah, HDD space is not much of a requirement for KSP...You only need between 4-6GB of HDD, and could probably get away with even just 2 or 3GB...
-
Excellent experiment and write-up... What about trying a fresh, default install, and now removing JUST the IVA folder/files (now Spaces folder)?... Or did you do that along with the part files and just not mention it?... I'm thinking it also probably wont make much difference, but I know in pre-0.90, the Squad IVA folder alone was HUGE, somewhere between 250-400MB depending on KSP version...I never used the IVAs, so I always deleted the folder, and it seemed to help quite a bit... Squad has definately improved THAT situation since 0.25, but I'm still wondering if there's any performance gain from removing the stock IVAs, and if the game is still playable without them...(I know it was pre-0.90)... Do you have any ideas on this, sal_vager?

Kerbal Stuff, an open-source Space Port replacement
Stone Blue replied to SirCmpwn's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Nice!... I prefer KS over Curse... Now, is that why the site is presently down?... ... lol EDIT: Nevermind...Just checked again, and I see she's back... Move along, people...Nothing to see here...Move along.... -
Ahhh!!...Maybe thats it, and why it always seems to be almost exactly 2GB short...I have 2GB VRAM... ?? InsaneDruid, good points....Yeah, i usually just go by what Task Manager says (either Windows or Linux vers.)...It usually seems to show the HIGHEST amount... And we wont even mention VM usage... Right now, (in Linux), I'm showing 4.0GB RSS, and 6.1GB VM...
-
^^ Hmmm...Sounds like it must take the garbage collector quite awhile to go thru and do its job of reclaiming RAM leakage...??? Good to know, Thanx! On a side-note, i dont know how accurate the in-game, Alt+F12 memory monitor is.... It always shows RAM usage about 2-2.5GB lower than what shows in Task Manager...???

Thanx for the AWESOME mod, kitoban...I've been using pretty much ever since I started playing KSP... 0.21 or 0.22?... Anyway, sorry if its been asked before (I admit I didnt go to deep reading back thru the therad), but would it be possible to add the re-size and slider functionality to the top, multi-function UI display?...(the altitude/abort/vertical velocity/etc part?) The ONLY thing I use on that is the altitude gauge...And I hate the pop-open trays on it...its annoying when i mouse across it...I am on a laptop, so screen real-estate is at a premium...I have two Blizzy toolbars setup on either side of the top UI thing, and whenever I try to mouse to one of the blizzy icons, and go across the stock UI, I get the annoying pop-opens, and have actually accidently clicked the stoopid Abort button, ruining a whole mission...

^^ Not sure if too much debris will cause your issue, but if you can, get to the Tracking Center, de-selct all the vessel-type icons, except for the debris one, then go thru the list and terminate each piece...You can also go into the Settings on the Main Menu, and there is a slider setting, under Game Play, for setting the amount of persistent debris...i have a mediocre computer, so i set mine to max 25...IIRC, you can even set it to zero, so once a stage becomes debris, it COMPLETELY disappears from the game, I believe, as soon as it is out of range and unloads...

Hmm...not sure if a Linux KSP install uses more or less RAM than the same Windows KSP install... All I know, is I'm a mod addict, and I was pushing Windows for all it was worth...Topping out, like I said, around 3.5GB...Got running on Linux, and right away just kept adding more mods, till I'm currently running around 4.4GB for KSP alone...(Since I had a lot of work into my Windows KSP Gamedata folder with lots of mods, and custom parts & .cfgs & stuff I had edited, once I installed KSP, I just literally copied my Windows Gamedata folder, and pasted it into the Linux KSP install...So i never started with a fresh KSP on Linux)...I'm sure I can add more mods and push it higher, i just havent decided on which large part pack i want to install next... Being a Linux noob, I just went with the full install... It sounds like the mini takes a bit more know how, and is more terminal-oriented...I figure once I learn more about Linux, i can remove any extra stuff in the full install that I dont need, or maybe just do a clean install using the mini... - - - Updated - - - Again, I'm no expert, but how many active flights do you have in your save?...How big are your craft, parts-count-wise?... i'm sure there could be a ton of other things to consider and someone else will chime in on... Also, like I suggested ANWRocketMan, you could always put Linux on a flash drive, and just run from that...It's much less hassle than installing into a dual-boot on your computer...You just install it to the flash drive, then the only thing is to set-up/customize the OS to your liking... Again, no expert, but it seems the 1st, single largest hurdle with Linux is just getting the video drivers going...seems for some, its easy-peasy, and a hassle for others, so your mileage may vary... On a side-note, for those of us who are Linux noobs, (and maybe sal_vager or a linux guru will chime in on the validity/truth of this), I came across this article a couple days ago: http://www.howtogeek.com/125157/8-deadly-commands-you-should-never-run-on-linux/?PageSpeed=noscript

If you do NOT want any of those mods to be partless, just delete, or remove the corresponding .cfg in the StockPlugins folder, and keep the ones you DO want to be partless... On a WAY off the side-note, for those who WANT to keep the part requirement, but dont like the individual, existing parts of certain mods, due to aesthetics, size, etc...I recommend taking a look at the Modular Computer Package: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/88116 I just made cards for Kerbal GPS and Protractor Continued mods....Its quite easy to do, and can probably be done for almost any mod that is a plugin with a single (or even a few) part requirement... I'm not too keen on the part model for the core component, but I like having all those odd, single parts here in one place as cards...

Hmmm... Sorry to hear you're having issues... When I spent hours first figuring out my Linux/KSP install, I also ran into hiccups with not knowing Linux itself, as well as the video drivers... Just had enough, left it for a day, came back with a fresh mind, and things worked out after a little more reserch... Hopefully will be the same with you... As to distro, I tried Kubuntu first, but the install didnt go well, so I went to my 2nd choice: Lubuntu 15.04... Supposedly the interface isnt very pretty for some people, but pretty damn similar enough to Windows for me... Lubuntu takes about 30 secs to boot, where as my Win 8.1 takes about 2, 2 1/2 mins, before its usable... My Lubuntu install sits at about 237MB RAM usage at idle... Right now, I have KSP running in the background, and am on Firefox... RAM usage: 5090MB of 5805MB usable: Firefox: 327MB, KSP: 4.4GB, OS: approx 370-400MB...System running smoothly: Priceless... PS- My 3rd distro choice was Mint... Turns out it seems lots of people go with Mint for KSP... I preffered the Lubuntu LXDE over the look of Mint Cinnamon...

[Abandoned] Multi-monitor screen space
Stone Blue replied to Crzyrndm's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
So I just installed this, (I'm running Lubuntu 15.04 64bit), and it SORTA worx... lol In Map View, I get certain display elements bleeding over to the right side, as well as opening, then closing display screens, things get left on the display...I guess "ghosting"...Like things get drawn, but the screen doesnt refresh, leaving all kinds of artifacts that build-up and overlap. Minimizing the window to the taskbar, then opening it again does a refresh to a clean screen. Have only gone into the Space Center, Tracking Center, Flight and Map screens... Oh, and in Tracking Center, all the buttons along the top are not there... I'm running heavily modded, so I dont know if its specifically THIS mod alone, or it clashing with something else... Also, I am on a laptop with a 1600x900 display, which does not have a matching KSP setting, and a 2nd old monitor, 1024x768, so i dont know if that may have something to do with it, too... Overall, it seems playable...Just need to refresh the window a lot...(Also, I havent been in either editor yet, so I dont know if it will be playable THEN...) -
Kinda sounds like you are lacking antennas, or the ones you have dont have proper range, or the spacing on your KEO sats is too far off....More details...What antennas do you have on the 3 KEO sats, as well as the LKO sats?...What is the Period for each KEO sat?

Hah...I just installed and started messing with these yesterday... JDP did most of them, however, several people besides JDP contributed models/animations...I know JDP gave permission to reuse, repurpose, and freely distribute HIS work on them... One of the modellers was SpaceGhost, who it seems hasnt been on in mnay months... NovaSilisko did one of the antennas, someone else did another, etc... They all SEEM like they will work with RT2 in 1.0.4, except for the tracking animation of the MacroDish sr, and the deployment animation of one of the omnis... Which ones were you interested in?

I think you will be sorely disappointed with trying to play KSP on that... That is basically a glorified two-piece tablet/netbook. I would think any ONE of the three major shortcomings with that would keep you from satisfactorily running KSP: 1st, the Atom processor, 2nd, only 2GB or RAM, 3rd, Intel HD graphics... I have a Lenovo Lynx tablet, and there is NO way KSP would run on it...And if it did, it would probably melt it down... Heres the specs on my tablet/keyboard dock: Windows 8, 11.6 inches IPS Display 64 GB Flash Memory, 2 GB RAM Memory 8-hour battery life, 802_11_BGN wireless Intel Atom Z2760 1.8 GHz

Best way to achieve 95% coverage with RT2
Stone Blue replied to Sovek's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yeah, I imagine that would work... Pretty sure with Kerbin, minimum orbit for a 3 sat network is just above 600km... So I think you need an orbit at least equal to the radius of the body being orbited?...So I'd guess at least 200km for Mun?...But go at least 300km or higher to allow for imperfect satellite spacing and eventual drift... Looking at that link i posted, 3 sats with a single Comm16, at an orbit of 300km, will give 100% coverage out to 2.5Mm+, well outside the Mun SOI of 2.23Mm... -
Best way to achieve 95% coverage with RT2
Stone Blue replied to Sovek's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
No more details on the contract?... 95% coverage of WHAT?... Pretty sure you can get close to, if not 100%, from all of Kerbin surface out to just past KEO-sync, from just 3 sats in an 800km equatorial orbit, with ONLY a single Comm32 on each... This site is your new friend as far as RT2 goes: https://ryohpops.github.io/kspRemoteTechPlanner/
