What brand of GPU do you use to play KSP?
Stone Blue replied to Red Iron Crown's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Laptop with Nvidia GT630M / Intel 3000 or 4000HD (not sure which).... Just switched to playing KSP on Linux, and I THINK its using the Nvidia instead of the Intel... lol -
Designed more as a lander can, ASET ALCOR seems to have THEEE most MFDs and geek-gasmic IVA I've seen...I use it as a command pod in many of my interplanetary ships...Granted, it only has a couple small "slot" windows, that "sort" of can show a pro/retro-grade view...Not too useful...HOWEVER, it DOES have BUILT in external cameras you can use for that, and access via the multiple MFDs...I highly recommend Hullcam VDS mod, as you can place as many external cameras anywhere you want on the rest of your craft, to get the exact views you need... (Actually, Hullcam VDS may be required anyway, to use the built-in pod cams on the ALCOR pod...I dont remember...) http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/54925 If you need MAXIMUM window views, there is the Panopticon mod (would be really good for tugs): https://kerbalstuff.com/mod/47 A good place to shop for various command pods is here: https://kerbalstuff.com/search?query=command+pod

^^ EEshh...One more reason i think i will stick with an (original) Win7 PC as long as I can...IIRC, these should be non-UEFI BIOS...??...I think UEFI was introduced around the time Win8 came out... ??

I tried Ubuntu awhile back, to dip my feet into Linux...It was pretty, and seemed like an easy x-over from Windows...I didnt stick with it learning the ins & outs of Linux, and Win7 has been fine for me ever since, so I removed it before doing doing anything with it. About a month ago, I wanted to play heavily modded KSP, and Win 7 & 8.1 (I have them dual-boot), werent cutting it...I knew I wanted a low-footprint Linux distro, and came up with 3 choices: Kubuntu, Lubuntu, & Mint... So I tried Kubuntu...That was a nightmare getting it installed for some reason...So I tried Lubuntu, and am pretty happy with it, so far just playing KSP and websurfing. (havent tried Mint) I like that at idle, it uses just over 200MB of RAM...Leaving me almost 5.3GB of RAM for playing KSP... Where as stripped down versions of Win7 & Win8.1 on my laptop use 950MB & 1.2GB (respectively) of RAM at idle... Also, using Firefox uses only about another 200MB, where it uses just over 300 on either Win OS...Loading & surfing Firefox is much quicker, too. Oh, and I have Win 7, 8.1 & Lubuntu all installed at the same time (tri-boot)... no issues... The Linux loader is set as my default...It has a Win boot loader option, which then loads the Win7/8.1 boot loader... I thought there might be issues with installing Linux on top of a pre-existing Win7/8.1 dual-boot, but it went seamlessly... This is all on a non-UEFI BIOS, too...

Mods that every KSP player should have...
Stone Blue replied to Pedro_daher's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Either Fusebox, or AmpYear for determining total electrical usage and required storage needs in the editor, as well as in-flight power management. Hullcam VDS if you do a lot of IVA, (RPM goes without saying...) NavUtilities for atmospheric flight... Switch Active Vessel and Haystack (or Targetron), if you quite often have many vessels clumped together, and get tired of having to exit and go to the tracking station... -

Hmmm.... I still have an old 13" B&W portable TV from when I was a kid.... Everytime I go to get rid of it, I change my mind thinking its still got to be good for SOMETHING.... Now I wonder if it would make a good display for a docking cam... LOL

Beautiful work!... Any idea on total weight when done?
-
Wow....Just went thru this whole thread again....AWESOME work by everyone. I must say, I AM kind of surprised no one has popped up with a simpit or control panel molded out of fiberglass... While I DO love the retro look, reusing old salvage parts, and lots of hard switches and indicators, it would be nice to see someone add some curved fiberglass panels and touchscreens into the mix as well... .... (I'm also still waiting to see if anybody is ever going to try designing some new Telemachus interfaces... )

Well, YOU did the hard part!... I just did a little color filling and tweaking some of the fonts... While ALL the other designs in this thread are sweet, and I can fully see where the heavy hash-marking and numbering can be useful on slow, in-orbit maneuvers, or even for rover use, I always find I can only afford quick glances at a (usually) quickly moving navball, so in my case, less is better... Just major pitch points, and minimal hashes seem to work best for me... I also use Enhanced NavBall, and have the navball sized about 200% over stock, but still need something a little less "busy"...lol

XedMada, I hope you dont mind I tweaked your DarkBall a little, into a high contrast version:

[WIN] KSP to DDS texture converter
Stone Blue replied to Lilleman's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
THANK you!!!...Yup, somehow had two blank lines at the end... Maybe when I started editing the file in Wordpad, then copied and pasted it into LibreWriter to finish, because I cant stand the weird linespacing in Wordpad... ?? But Thank you for figuring this out for me... -
[WIN] KSP to DDS texture converter
Stone Blue replied to Lilleman's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
So, trying this with 1.0.2, and a bunch of installed mods, it is messing with a bunch of toolbar icons. I went thru and added a bunch of exceptions, and removed some flags on others.. Now when I try to run it, out of 1031 files, 0 (zero, zilch, none...) textures get converted.... If I revert my exceptions, it works normally... Is there a trick to adding exceptions to the list? Heres the exact text I added/changed: //AmpYear REPOSoftTech\AmpYear\Icons // //Editor Extension EditorExtensions\Textures // //Enhanced Navball EnhancedNavBall\Resources // //Fusebox Fusebox\TB_icons // //GC Monitor GCMonitor // //Infernal Robotics //MagicSmokeIndustries\Textures\icon_drag.png //MagicSmokeIndustries\Textures\icon_dragInsert.png //MagicSmokeIndustries\Textures\icon_dragHandle.png //MagicSmokeIndustries\Textures -nn -nm -nr MagicSmokeIndustries\Textures // //Kerbal Engineer //KerbalEngineer\Textures\ToolbarIcon.png -nn -nm KerbalEngineer\Textures\ToolbarIcon.png // //LightsOut LightsOut\Textures // //Mission Controller 2 MissionControllerEC\MCERevert.png MissionControllerEC\MCEStockToolbar.png // //NavHud NavHud\ToolbarIcon.png // //Realchutes //RealChute\Plugins\PluginData\RC_Icon.png RealChute\Plugins\PluginData // //Toolbar, no mipmaps and no resize //000_Toolbar -nm -nr 000_Toolbar // //VOID VOID\Textures // -
I would recommend a good laptop cooler fan underneath... I have an i5-2450M, Intel HD3000, with an Nvidia GT630M graphics GPU... (KSP uses the Nvidia)... Oh, my laptop is a 17.3"... I use a Thermaltake Massive23 cooling fan underneath ALWAYS when running KSP... I have had my laptop shutdown often when running KSP without the fan...Laptop gets extremely hot... WITH the fan, it's shutdown only maybe once or twice?...But I always really push tons of mods, too..I wont run KSP without the fan. Also, I think it runs a lot cooler now, with 1.0/1.0.2 version of the game...I think one of the things they did that had the most impact on resource usage was going to .dds textures... I never really thought running a certain piece of software could kill a computer, till I started playing KSP with no cooling on my laptop...$30 for a good laptop fan is cheap insurance...

I know...It was working for me also...It was icons from the MODS I had installed, (NOT Blizzy's Toolbar), that were NOT working properly in the STOCK toolbar...They DID work properly in Blizzy's TB... There were quite a few mods that were not playing nice with the 1.0 STOCK toolbar... I read in another thread, that mods that place icons in the STOCK toolbar will most likely need to be updated for the issue... So I (incorrectly, it seems), thought maybe Blizzy had changed, or needs to change, something to reflect these possible changes to the way non-stock icons get displayed in the STOCK toolbar, and maybe its more involved than just a recompile, since 1.7.9 seems, not ready yet?... Sorry if I ended up causing any unecessary confusion... And again, Blizzy, no matter what it is, or how long it takes, Thank you for digging into an update so quickly...

I am...I expect to be on 0.90 for at least another month or two... i am HEAVILY modded, and use lots of older, almost abandoned mods, so I like to wait for tons more of the mods to get updates... Also, by waiting, i figure to not have to deal with any fresh bugs... PLUS, it seems 0.90 has hardly been out very long at all...I only have a few hours playing 0.90, since for the reasons stated above, i have still been playing 0.25 for the first couple months after 0.90 came out...

Hmm...The TacToolbarButton, I assume, would be for TAC Fuelbalancer...Incidentally, that is ONE icon that shows up, on the right hand of the GUI where my 2nd TB is supposed to drop down... Blizzy, here are my logs from a COMPLETELY fresh, from scratch, install of 1.0.2 and only the ToolBar... STILL no initial TB update icon on any game screen... KSP.log: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0D_PFGuuyqoeTF5UFRneGlkdWc/view?usp=sharing output_log: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0D_PFGuuyqoTXh2bTB3VGw4TVE/view?usp=sharing - - - Updated - - - Really?....The file I downloaded this AM seems OK... The Changes and version .txts are reflecting correct version numbers, and .dll in the zip is dated: 5/02/15 12:30PM That was less than 3 hrs ago..??...Have you guys tried the link since then? OR, maybe Blizzy took down the new vers., and reverted the link to the old till he gets this figured out?

Now I'm getting the same... NOW running FRESH install of 1.0.2 with 1.7.9, and several mods... I AM showing a few of the icons from various mods, but they are overlapped, one is a strange size, and no signs of the normal Toolbar border, autohide, etc... When I FIRST got to the Flight screen, Exception Detector did show that Fusebox was throwing a TBIcon error...So I removed Fusebox, and got the below results... My outputlog: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0D_PFGuuyqoNlJrLXVxbkRVV1E/view?usp=sharing and my KSP.log: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0D_PFGuuyqoemdtd3J2NUQ4dUE/view?usp=sharing I had TB set to display two, separate, single line, toolbars at the top edge of the screen, either side of the stock altimeter/GUI... Clicking aorund the visible icons does not bring up the settings menu for TB... When I open the VOID configuration, and click the "Use Blizzy Toolbar" checkbox, it just blinks, and will not remove the icon from the stock toolbar or make it appear where the TB would be... Screenshot I realise I am getting errors from other mods and such, that may be affecting TB...But thought these might be useful rather than having a bone stock install with only TB installed, and it not having any buttons to display...?? I will now remove all mods except TB, and see if there's any difference... UPDATE: Yup...With TB the only mod installed, not seeing the TB "setup" icon you are supposed to see after fresh install of the ToolBar... On ANY game screen...
