The X-32 was more than a funny plane, it was the flying bullfrog. I actually watched a documentary on the competition between the X-35 and the X-32. In many ways the X-32 was a better craft, cheaper, more reliable, but not as "new" or "cool" as the X-35. So instead we got the X-35. I wont go into the "c"Raptor vs the YF-23. The F-23 was a FAR better aircraft than the F-22, but the F-22 was less revolutionary and thus the "safer" bet. Well we see how that is panning out.

No problem about the looks, the craft is one of the oldest in HARM industries fleet. It is also the most basic of the craft, and cheapest. Unfortunately you did not test the craft in the atmosphere it was designed for, a realistic atmosphere (FAR), so you didn't get the full potential of the Akula in your test. As far as most bang for your buck, the F-119 Akula would be your choice, but seeing as you are going with more "exotic" designs that would be expensive losses when faced against the F-119C Akula that is your choice. Its a shame really because there is a twin engine fighter currently under development by HARM for most nations twin engine cheap multi-role SSTO combat aircraft needs.

[1.1] BDArmory v0.11.0.1 (+compatibility, fixes) - Apr 23
Hodo replied to BahamutoD's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
The trick to avoiding missiles, AIM-9 or AIM-120s is to turn inside of them. You fire your countermeasures off then turn sharp in another direction. You have to make them overshoot. -
KCS123 is right, if it is to hot go higher. I on the otherhand dont use big ugly tails. I go for a smaller streamlined look. But I still achieve very good stability at all speed ranges with my craft. This craft has gone through a few revisions since this picture but it is still pretty much the same. The only big difference is the placement of the intakes. But dont be afraid to think outside the box..... This was done in 20min of messing around.

Well seeing as I have a craft that is older than anything posted here and still far more combat capable than most of the others.... And is an SSTO. The F-119 Akula Single seat multi-role fighter. Top speed, orbital velocity Service Ceiling, 75km orbit (clean) 70km orbit light load. Max payload.... not sure never really tested. And just proof of age... Taken in .90. Download link F-119 Akula Sometimes inspiration comes from the oddest places... Mig-21.

My current money maker... For all missions non-combat related on Kerbin for Science! I call it the P-4 Dexter.

[1.1] BDArmory v0.11.0.1 (+compatibility, fixes) - Apr 23
Hodo replied to BahamutoD's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Use a weapon manager, set the "Fire" command to an action group, and cycle through your weapons with action groups also.. alot easier then fishing out a joystick. -
The issue is your aircraft is to heavy for the two gear you have in the back. The easiest fix is to add a second pair of landing gear near them like this craft from my last install of KSP. Notice how it has extra pairs of gear to take the added weight of the craft. Or this one which is set up slightly differently.

I know Wanderfound and I both put a lot of our craft up on KerbalX.com when we are satisfied with them for download. Just click the links in our sigs to see our forum posts on our craft. I haven't put anything new up yet, havent had as much time as I would like to get to play.

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Hodo replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
KSP wont load the craft if it has parts from a pack that person does not have. And I think the B9 parts maybe the cause of your problems as B9 hasnt been updated for KSP1.0.2 let alone the NuFAR.- 14,073 replies

Then there is the MkIV parts with the wider cargo bay. Honestly the only thing I want from B9 now is the 2.5m SABRE, I just liked the look of it on my larger aircraft. Beyond that most of the rest of it is pretty much dead now. Granted the massive parts were handy for space stations. There is one other part I want from B9 and it was a cockpit that had a tilt down nose like the Concorde but it was removed because it was incomplete.

[1.12.*] Deadly Reentry v7.9.0 The Barbie Edition, Aug 5th, 2021
Hodo replied to Starwaster's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Haven't tested the current version which came out this morning to me. But the last version if I revert back to launch the craft instantly overheats and explodes on reload. But if I return to SPH then launch after that it is fine. It is like it retains its previous speed before the revert happened.- 5,919 replies

I may give it a try when I get time. Not a big fan of the F-117 Wobbly Goblins look, not very aerodynamic seeing as I us FAR it makes it nearly impossible to fly without real fly by wire controls. I am sure I can come up with something. Never concerned myself with stealth seeing as all of my aircraft are SSTOs.

[BD-Armory] BETA - Crew Rescue v0.6 UPDATE 2
Hodo replied to ZLM-Master's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
So I messed around in another one of your missions you had for download to test out my F-119 Akula, the stock SSTO Mig-21 knock off that I made a while ago and still is one of my best and favorite SSTO fighters. I succeeded in destroying all of the targets with the F-119s limited weapons load but it was fun to fly that aircraft again in a combat capacity. -
The "F" in its designation was to get around the NATO/WARSAW treaty on not deploying bombers with in a certain radius of central Europe. This is why the F-111 Aardvark was designated with the "F" for fighter when clearly it was a bomber.
-
For fun... And if I actually worked a bit at it, it would actually work. Good ol' Viper!
-
Its a classic, but it still works as one of my best SSTO-Fighter craft to date. The F-119 Akula... And my SP-160 project is coming along nicely. Still working on somethings but it works pretty well as is.

http://i.imgur.com/294JnoP.pngFrom what I can tell in those pictures your spoilers are deploying at a steep enough angle to have any affect other than some downward push. Try increasing the pitch angle on the spoilers to 40-45deg.- 14,073 replies

All I want is the SABREs and the 2.5m shockcone intake other than that I really dont want much else from B9. I am still hoping till retrofuture parts gets updated.... That is the important one to me now.
-
Didn't think B9 worked yet with the nuFAR yet or 1.0.2.
-
That is almost like my first interplanetary SSTO way back in the day, using B9 parts and Kethane. It went to Ike and Duna and returned. Great job there. He does and I cant wait.
