Do you have a picture? Here is a picture of the underside of one of my fighters using Mk2 parts. You can see its gear layout, and it runs straight as an arrow on the ground.
-
Why didn't you all use Procedural wings? It would cut down on the parts counts by A LOT.

[WIP]D12 Aerotech - A B9 Aerospace Expansion (Beta1)
Hodo replied to PolecatEZ's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
I have a part suggestion. The Mk2 parts lack a way to mount three things on them, like two engines and a tail, or two intakes and a cockpit. If it were possible to make a three across tri-coupler. So I could do this without clipping parts into each other. Granted I didn't turn on parts clipping just used the tricks you can do in KSP anyway. -

That I can not tell you, I use powered space planes that have jet engines for in atmosphere flight. But I have had a few out of fuel landings where I have had to glide a lot further then I wanted. I usually set my PE target somewhere around 15-25km over the landing site and usually my slowdown through the atmosphere brings my landing down to with in a few kilometers of the runway. When it comes to gliding it is best to have targeted to far then not enough. -
You know I may have to move my navball, I didn't think to move it before. Thank you for inspiring me once again! Camlost, the F-15C Eagle is rated at Mach 2.5+ but the P&W F-100s that you have modeled overheat at 10km AGL at mach 2. Perhaps they need a slight tweak to the heat range to fix this.

The funny thing is about the real space shuttle. When it takes off the shuttles boosters are not at 100% throttle. It isn't till a few seconds before the SRBs are separated that they go full throttle on the shuttle engines. You may want to test launching at different throttle settings to see if it fixes your launch control issues. I never had much luck with a piggy back shuttle launch like the real shuttle but I only messed with the concept for about a day then I moved on.

Mechjeb Ascent Settings with FAR?

Sorry missed that, so we were on the same sheet of music just talking about it in different ways. My fault. -
The Black Market (Military Craft for Kerbal War Game)
Hodo replied to horndgmium's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The F-145 Tomkat SSTO Attack craft. Crew of 1. Can reach orbit on stock sized Kerbin, have not tested it on a RSS sized Kerbin, because I went full RO. Buyer can swap out weapons for Skillful as needed. Haven't done it because RF would kill it. Its old, I built it when I had KER all pods, but now I run MJ. It does not come with MJ on it, but it is completely stock. Remove the "missiles" to reduce part count and replace with IR Skillful weapons. Its a shame you all didn't use Procedural Wings, it could REALLY cut down on the parts count. -
Planet Factory with the Realism Overhaul, RSS cfgs. Those look the most real.
-
I have landed a few SSTO space planes on the Mun, Min, and Ike. This is the secret to landing on atmosphereless worlds with a Spaceplane.

The trick is to do something that bleeds energy. Bringing a shuttle down is like bringing a fighter with the flight characteristics of a brick down. You have to do maneuvers like the real shuttle, large "S" turns to bleed off speed (energy) before you get down to a lower altitude. I used to try and hit 60-75km to do this. And make sure your CoL is closer to your CoM when empty, or have a fuel pump system that lets you shift your fuel to move the CoM. -

Been there for me since .23. But I use so many mods it maybe B9, but it hasn't been supported since .22 so couldn't tell you. -
So.... My sister made a ship... BEHOLD: ESCOA
Hodo replied to a topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Actually it is a fantastic design, and you could still add RCS, it would fit neatly under the docking port. -
So I made my first supercruise non-F-119 powered aircraft..... Borrowed heavily from the Mig-23 design. Mach 2.06 isn't bad on a pair of P&W F-100s.

Porkjet, I have a request for your parts pack. An inline intake system for the Mk2 parts.
-
I built something that is kind of like a Cessna 195. It works as expected. I actually love flying that thing.

[1.3.1] Ferram Aerospace Research: v0.15.9.1 "Liepmann" 4/2/18
Hodo replied to ferram4's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
I just kind of eyeball it myself for lifting surfaces. If the aircraft is massive I put larger wings on it or design it with a lifting body design.- 14,073 replies

Mechjeb Ascent Settings with FAR?
Hodo replied to Agarax's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Real rockets do not go straight up. I have seen one launch in real life. And if you watch this video, you can see this rocket sure as heck dont go straight up. This Delta IV launch definately is starting its turn LONG before it hits 70km. -

Yes both work with FAR. MJ autopilot doesnt do well with planes in FAR but rockets are fine.- 14,073 replies

The Chinook, aka *****-hook" isn't the only tandem rotor blade helicopter out there http://www.publicdomainpictures.net/view-image.php?image=3333&picture=ch-46-sea-knight-helicopter&large=1 Not a chinook. Also not a Chinook http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasecki_H-21#mediaviewer/File:CH21B.jpghttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasecki_H-21#mediaviewer/File:CH21B.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piasecki_PV-14#mediaviewer/File:HUP-1_HU-2_CV-41_early50s.jpg Those are just a few.... This is a Chinook. What I don't get is how you are going to build any helicopter out of the parts in this pack.. when there is no rotor blades, or a cockpit that looks like it would work.
-
No offense but then it wouldn't be a Chinook. Unless you mean the fish?

Mechjeb Ascent Settings with FAR?
Hodo replied to Agarax's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is not true. It is less efficient to level off in the upper atmosphere and burn. That is like going straight up and turning 90deg then burning to the horizon. Real rockets don't do this because it is wasteful and stupid. -

Hodo replied to Ker-boom's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I am seeing one problem with your design and your control setup. You have not set your control surfaces to assigned jobs. You currently have your LARGE wing ailerons as a elevator and an aileron, which is ok if you have a true delta wing. And you have moving tail elevators, which is giving you TO much control. Which makes the craft over control and fly apart. You also have no yaw control, no rudders at all on that aircraft. Your engines and SAS module are doing all of that work, which is bad. I suggest you look at a real aircraft design and mimic the control setups. -
For a Chinook you will need Firespitter and B9 for the cargo bays that are big enough.

Mechjeb Ascent Settings with FAR?
Hodo replied to Agarax's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
depends on the craft. But you want to get the TWR around 1.2-1.4. And the best ascent guidance path is 20-25% with the target altitude around the goal orbit altitude.
