What paint program are you using for flags?
ansaman replied to ZentroCatson's topic in KSP1 Discussion
IrfanView works fine for me and is very user friendly. -
Thanks for the information!

Has anyone had any experience with Windows 10 and KSP through the preview builds? Are there any indications whether performance will be better, worse, or neutral?

Designed to be easy to fly, maneuverable, and forgiving. Comments and/or improvements welcome. http://home.comcast.net/~ansaman/Best%203.craft

I accepted a contract for a five Kerbal capacity station in orbit around Minimus, first launching a command module and then launching a lander which rendezvoused and docked. Once docked, it fulfilled the contract. Even better, I then fulfilled the "explore Minimus" contract with the same pair. I was pretty pleased although I didn't really receive a lot of profit after paying for the two launches.
-
Good question Tokay. I am going to try an on-orbit base and see if it can be fulfilled by docking.
-
I have a mission challenge that requires I have space for a bunch of kerbals. If it is a surface outpost, does it need to be in one piece (docked together) or can the habitable parts be close by or adjacent? I already know that bases don't need to be occupied.

I had a weird dream about ksp last night...
ansaman replied to quasarrgames's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Heh, when I was playing a lot of chess, I would play in my sleep. -
Nothing. There was a bug in .25, (or a feature designed to force you to learn Kerbal spacewalking and maneuver) that has a workaround .dll that you can add that helps the situation considerably. Do a search in the bugs forum.

Radial Decouplers still not fixed???
ansaman replied to dtoxic's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Thanks Claw. I tried it and it seems to work. I appreciate your efforts. -
EVA Ejects at High Velocity [.25]

I experienced this too. If I had not so much experience with spacewalks, I would have lost my Kerbal. -
Radial Decouplers still not fixed???
ansaman replied to dtoxic's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
(SAD, SAD FACE) That was the very first thing I checked. Fortunately, even though the stages were destroyed, the upper stages were unharmed. Its really cool to have the new administration building and all the flexibility with so many settings but I wish this would get fixed even if I have applied engineering workarounds. -
Here's a tip for when stuff stops working
ansaman replied to ansaman's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
There is also the question of focus. If you are using MechJeb and one of those windows is the active window, other functions will not work until you left click the main screen to give it focus. Since blue text is so annoying, I won't use it anymore. -
KSP makes people mistake you for a rocket scientist
ansaman replied to Firedtm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
KSP is a wonderful example of Self Organized Learning Experience (SOLE) which is being promoted by Sugata Mitra: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugata_Mitra He has put computers in reach of children in slums and found they would teach themselves everything about the computer so they could play games, but then started to educate themselves using the internet. In KSP, the best gamers are eventually motivated to go find information about the relevant science so they understand what they are doing. When I was writing official USAF history, I borrowed a Jepperson's private pilot manual and taught myself many of the basics of flight, communications , and navigation in the same way. When I eventually got involved with some of the better flight simulators, I was able to do well and then learn even more. An inquisitive person then moves on to learning about the physics and current events related to space flight and is enriched. -
I have found the parts testing to be an interesting technical challenge requiring me to design a craft from scratch for a special purpose. Some contracts are stupidly simple and others are simply impossible. It is not like I am going to drag a jet engine out to Minimus for no money. On the other hand, some of the contracts generate fascinating puzzles. It would be simple to classify each part with an additional parameter and then filter out stupid results with a simple algorithm. No testing of jet engines landed on the Mun.

Tonight, I was going to wrap up a very long mission and when I advanced the throttle, nothing happened. If I could not get off Bop, I would have to transmit the science rather than recover it and lose a boatload of science. I had plenty of fuel and electrical power. The old "try turning it off and on again" worked. I exited to the tracking station and then went back to the probe and Bop and it worked. I believe doing that re-initializes stuff in the program and I have found if something stops working this will help a lot.

VERY good point. The money in career is going to force folks to stop building monstrosities. (MOAR BOOSTERS !) Many times adding an expensive booster doesn't get much change in velocity. Trimming the payload works fast.
-
I have never had a problem with money since I spend a lot of time making upper stages light as possible. What I found to be expensive were the gravioli sensors. I went to Duna-Ike and took numerous sensors since I planned on covering as many biomes and science as possible without transmitting. Just consider: Ike High, Low and Surface and Duna High, Low and Surface PLUS duplicates for the high value stuff (in other words I run some stuff twice). Just consider that there are FIFTEEN Mun biomes (I never knew there was a Northern Basin) and I may have missed some.

Watching with you now. Hope all goes well. LIVE COVERAGE: http://rosetta.esa.int/

First launch attempt failed. Looking for a 3 am Eastern Time launch, but still working an issue. http://spaceflightnow.com/falcon9/011/status.html
-
I would only ride the most time-tested designs if I had had proper training for any problems and if there was a means of rescue in some situations. I would not ride any new design especially if it was complex, nor would I undertake any unique mission.

At Spaceflight Now or United Launch Alliance. All is go for an 11:26 PM Eastern Time Friday Launch. http://www.spaceflightnow.com/atlas/av048/status.html http://www.ulalaunch.com/webcast.aspx
