  1. I still have no CTD after playing for a couple of hours and tweaking the video card and PhysX setting. I appreciate staff at least hanging out and listening as it might provide clues to solutions.
  2. Yo, people! Perhaps I found something. I have an NVIDIA card and I started playing with the settings. First, I set the KSP settings to optimum in the "Games" section of the card controls. Then, I altered the 3D settings for all functions so the PhysX goes to the video card and not "Auto." Then, I went back to KSP and toned down the settings so I got decent performance with OK frame rates and no "time dilation" (clock runs slow). No more crash to desktop. The problem may have to do with the the way PhysX is handled in Unity 5 rather than anything in KSP per se. BUT I AM GUESSING. I am sure there are people with far more knowledge than me. I am just an old-time computer guy who knows how to goose things until they seem to work.
  3. I am trying to check my video card settings and other things to make sure there isn't a conflict with my drivers.
  4. I have noticed my "crash to desktop" incidents seem to happen when staging or deploying parachutes. They do not happen every time, but maybe 30 percent of the time.
  5. I saw the same bug. I hope they are working on it. Still present in 1.1.1
  6. As an even better option, once you have added the four thud engines, you can assign a button to turn them off once your dynamic TWR gets good enough. That way, you get more DV out of the remaining fuel.
  7. I was a physics major at one time and ended up in Strategic Air Command, eventually becoming a Unit Historian where I got to see nearly everything. I was always in love with space and remember watching the Apollo 11 landing as a kid. I also got to see one of the first shuttle flights when in was on the back of the 747 coming into Kelly AFB, Texas and a shuttle liftoff in person from the causeway. I am a seriously dedicated KSP guy... EVERY DAY. I work in retail.
  8. I am looking for further ideas for SSTOs starting with small stuff. This one got to 75km orbit with 800 dv remaining by launching with 15 degree angle of attack. I cannot find a whole lot of room for improvement and I was looking for input. Craft file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8SMEYvaQylCWXEzY1lXYVFtLVU/view?usp=sharing
  9. I ended up taking a space station contract that required me to staff two tourists to fulfill the contract. They were not available as I built the station nor were they available later after all other contract requirements were met. (I had figured they might show for transfer. Something I am missing or a game bug?
  10. The pirate flag is EXCELLENT. Wonderful design.
  11. I have seen some combo orbit missions and most of those were WAY too hard to do. The missions I don't even want to try are the tourist missions which have you taking multiple people jackassing all over the Kerbol system and if you miss one checkpoint, no big payout.
  12. It was called "The Vall 4 Rally" and required flybys of Dres, Pol, Tylo, and Val. I actually got it done and even did a bonus fly-by of Laythe . It ended up in orbit around Jool with quite a bit of deltaV...perhaps enough to get to Bop! Still have not finished and it was a LONG session. It went Dres, then a opportunistic fly-by of Tylo which resulted in a very elongated orbit of Jool. On the way back, I hit Pol, then Val, then Laythe. Yes, it was not stock. I used KW Rocketry and generated an 1050 ton monster with over 10K deltaV after reaching a high Kerbin orbit.
  13. It is so small that to show the orbits makes Dres disappear.
  14. I sent a Infrared Telescope out to scan Dres and it's neighborhood and in a very short time I located no less that 22 different Dres-orbiting objects, all in the same plane in roughly circular orbits ranging from 18,000 to 20,000 km.
  15. Well you know, Kerbals go both ways: Prograde and Retrograde !
  16. Yeah, I had the same experience even with a heat shield with a 4K plus speed. I suspect that it is like diving into a pool from 10 feet...and then 100 feet. Same water, big difference.
  17. You could fart on Gilly and go an amazing distance. In real life, this happened on the ESA on the Rosetta mission when their little lander Philae failed to attach itself to the surface and bounced to a location which lacked sufficient sun exposure.
  18. I had always wanted to change the orientation of my Mun landers, but it is not always a simple thing given I insist on actually flying these designs to their destination. Further, any proper lander can get pretty big and heavy. Fortunately, with KW parts that go up to 5 meter diameters, I was able to do it with a 600 ton plus vehicle. It is a beast and 120 meters tall! Even more important is the ability to change the root control part after launching. Using the "control from here" option after fairing eject makes it much easier to fly. The happy group does not have enough fuel to return, but they have enough snacks and power (and company) to wait for supply and replacement crew members. - - - Updated - - - I see that this post might have properly gone to "Mission Reports," but I am not sure. Further, there is a control module attached radially to the top which takes over control after separating from the booster. It becomes VERY important to make sure that the weight distribution is symmetrical and there are enough forces from SAS to keep the whole thing from spinning out of control as it becomes very easy to create a pilot induced oscillation and lose control.
  19. I had a lot of fun with this one: "We do it all for the lolz !"
  20. Elon Musk said there was an apparent overpressure in the upper stage, but that the apparent readings are "counterintuitive." It starts with some apparent venting from the upper part of the craft. It's all on YouTube.
  21. Today's Falcon 9 launch blew up 2 minutes and 19 seconds into the flight.
