I think the RAPIERs are a bit overpowered now...
ansaman replied to SkyRender's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Thanks for the tip. The first successful landing, I had to move fuel around to get a proper CG. Actually, this is critical in many real-world flight situations. Bad Center of Gravity can get you killed. -

Personally, I enjoyed being able to get a spaceplane to orbit and land it although it took a few tries to get a configuration that would land without skipping down the runway (too much lift). -
Tweaked aerodynamics ?
ansaman replied to Vindelle_Sunveam's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Didn't work for me, BUT I said I would experiment and I created a bit of screwy engineering to protect the main booster from the SRB tops smacking into the main booster and blowing it up. I added what I would call a "structural guard" which collides with the SRB and prevents the inward rotation rather than spinning the entire rocket to create outward force as was tried. See picture. It WORKS! (I am so proud of myself) -
Tweaked aerodynamics ?

Apparently, something is broken. I have been working around the problem...somewhat...but I am still getting collisions which may or may not destroy the main rocket body. -
What I find most interesting and compelling is learning new techniques and trying to do each task more effectively and efficiently. It is amazing the different variations on design for any particular mission although I have noticed that Munar Landers tend to cluster around a couple of effective designs. Having said that, someone showed a design I hadn't seen today and I was quick to implement the design ideas in a variant of my own.

Tweaked aerodynamics ?

I have experienced the very same problem with the big boosters and I have been experimenting to see what I can do to ameliorate the phenomena. -
Thanks, it is a great mod and greatly appreciated. There is an element of roleplaying in playing KSP and the Procedural Fairings Mod adds a sense of realism rather than having all kinds of structures that we know full well cannot be exposed to the tremendous atmospheric forces exposed and NAKED...NAKED I tell you !

When I updated to 24.1, the program itself told me that both MechJeb and KSPAPIExtensions were not compatable. MechJeb is updated, will the KSPAPIExtensions file be updated or will i have to lose the lovely Procedural Fairings?

Right now, I am having a pretty successful combination mission: 1. Orbited Jool and did science. 2. Did science at Pol, orbited Pol, landed on Pol, did science landed on Pol. and now... 3. Do science at Bop, orbit Bop, land on Bop, do science landed on Bop. After that, it depends on if I have enough delta-V. Got to be careful with Tylo, past experience has shown it has a wicked gravity well.

I have been dealing with the ejection force bug and the staging and left click bugs. It did not stop me from playing, but could be annoying. I have reverted to 32 bit for now.

There is more than one Manley. My real name is Sanford M. Manley, but as far as I can tell, I am not related to Scott Manley and yes, I asked.

And so thats the story of what happened to ________ Kerman....
ansaman replied to Mr.Rocket's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My worst have been Munar landers that tipped over. Sometimes, you can rock them or roll them around and apply some thrust and actually get flying again. Other times, they scooted across the terrain until we experienced "catastrophic disassembly" and "unplanned mission termination" resulting in "reportable personnel events." -
I think that it is theoretically possible in a physical sense, but would be a social and psychological disaster. The rate of social and technological change is very stressful now with our normal lifespans. It may make things untenable with a massive extension. My grandfather lived from 1900 to 1991 and saw massive changes. He could not adjust to some of them. Being born in 1959, I have been able to keep up with things, but in some senses I am exceptional regarding education and curiosity.

Stupid things you've made to do missions in career mode
ansaman replied to lukerules117's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You know, there are some contracts that are better off left alone. Some are not worth the money. Others are VERY premature at some levels of tech. For example, I never try Munar missions until I have batteries and preferably solar panels of some type. -
Hey, I am with you. I have a LOT of experience playing KSP and the timing for some of these research contracts boils down to less than a couple of seconds each way.

When I change the screen resolution for KSP from 1280x1024 (native resolution) to 1024x768 it makes the Mechjeb GUI too large for my taste even when using the compact setting. I have been trying various graphical settings to get better framerates. Is there any way to alter the GUI to make it smaller?

I am a sort of a senior gamer in regards to space games as I wrote one in 1977 in BASIC on a TTY that was saved to paper tape. It was very simple, but I spent so many hours tweaking the algorithms that they threw me out of the computer lab. Having said that, with all the PC and console games I have bought and played to exhaustion, I have never been so pleased as I have been with KSP (with the possible exception of KOEI's Romance of the Three Kingdoms which I must note was re-released almost annually with changes in game play, graphics, and philosophy.) Sure, I am eager for 24.0, but I can wait as I have total confidence in what has been done so far as well as the amazing performance of the modding community.

What you didn't know that Kerbals reproduce by fission and that they don't need food? They create energy by photosynthesis. I thought the green skin made that evident.

Ansaman here from West Palm Beach, Florida. I also have a quick question. If somebody answers my question in the forums (see Flickering Lights under general gameplay issues and questions) How do I mark it as answered??

THANKS! You are very helpful.

Unit of Measurement of 2HOT Thermometer

LOL! That is funny! -
I like putting a lot of lights on my stations as it makes it easier to see when on the dark side of a planet. I have found that the lights flicker at times. Is this a bug or a feature?

Space Station Question
ansaman replied to CheftonUTD's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I built my station at about 115 k so there was a little room for error if anything went wrong. Apparently, KSP orbits do not decay like real world orbits. I have about 10,000 units of fuel, 12,000 units of oxidizer, and 4600 units of monopropellant on orbit.
