Given that you'd be asking for a specific account ID to be unblocked it would be easy to blacklist ID's that spam.

It's a whole lot cheaper than paying staff to look at it, and the net result is the same. So... yeah.
-
The problem is if it's too close to the payload (eg. touching) it will rip off (folded) solar panels when releasing.

I'll go out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong with those people; I'm going to guess they live in the US, being the most litigious nation in the world. Workplace harassment can result in fines and damages payments that an outsider would quickly refer to as “outrageous.” Add to it that in a courtroom the definition of “workplace” can by more inclusive than you’d think is reasonable (Any place where you encounter colleagues is considered ‘the workplace,’ was the rule at one of my employers, and that includes malls and movie theaters) and you'll see a lot of CYA in company regulations. It's often not that those rules are aggressively enforced, but when the you-know-what hits the you-know-where no company wants to be liable for a lawsuit that alleges “the company had nothing in place to prevent this from happening” and thus most (large, deep pocketed) companies do have fairly restrictive rules like that in place. What can possibly go wrong when you “thread carefully?” Well, that first lunch date can go very well, you thought, so you ask her out again. She considered it awkward and uncomfortable, and when you ask her out again you have HR on your heels before you know it. That's of course a worst case scenario that doesn't happen that often, but it's something to consider. Or you just go for it. I met my wife at a company with strict rules. They still threw us a wedding shower and everything. Just thread very, very carefully.

KSP Calculations Spreadsheet [inDev]
Kerbart replied to Pretorian28715's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
If I were running a solution for myself in Excel (I run my calculations in Python, but I digress) I wouldn't have a problem with running VBA macros but for a shared solution many will find it problematic, given the security risk. Personally I'd be very reluctant opening an xlsm or (even worse) an xlsb file as there's no guarantee that what you're inviting over the internet is clean. Given the need for reference tables an alternate solution, when building something within the Microsoft Office framework, would be to consider building something in Microsoft Access. But that brings the VBA security issue back, of course. -
Neil Tyson, Bill Nye, and George rr Martin are making a space game
Kerbart replied to insert_name's topic in The Lounge
Games are rarely ever good "on demand," if it were that easy to create a good game there wouldn't be bad ones. Celebrities rarely "make" a good game in the first place. Are they there just to lend their name? Provide input? None of them have a proven track record for even halfway decent games. If Bill Nye's new science show is any indication, it's not going to be good, and having NDT on the cast doesn't suggest quality either. -
[1.11] RemoteTech v1.9.9 [2020-12-19]
Kerbart replied to tomek.piotrowski's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
While losing out on accuracy, I mitigate the problem by setting the flight computer to pro/retrograde. It's not as accurate as setting the F/C to the node, but you do bypass the extremely annoying spinning problem. -

No, then he'd be removing any doors, "because they destroy the symmetry of the design" -
Does landing on far side of the Moon is possible?
Kerbart replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Because the moon is small and lumpy, it's gravitational field is not evenly distributed. In other words, gravitational force depends not just on your distance to the center of the moon, but also on where (lat/lon) you are. -
This. Yes, I don't think it's a secret that the current forum receives even less love than Dres. But... it's better than Bad Stuff arriving on your computer through the forum. The features make things prettier but that doesn't mean you can't post without using them. Just think of how bad usenet looked! Now get off my lawn!

It must be something locally on your machine; I can see the image just fine. If you copy & paste the link in the browser, do you see the image? That will help to determine if this is a problem that is specific to your internet connection, or if it's the forum that interfering for you, somehow.

How to swap crew members in a full vessel?
Kerbart replied to Gordon Dry's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
If the need is dife enough you can send in a crew pod with a claw. Latch on, while not realistic you can now move crew into the spare pod and move them around. -
Apparently I do. Pray tell me, what's the point? perhaps some arguments would help to make your case. Brevity is only beneficial when your underlying message is clear, and obviously It wasn't, or I wouldn't have missed it.

Does landing on far side of the Moon is possible?
Kerbart replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn't have to do it himself... The main question is: why? It's not like landing on the moon wasn't a challenge. “A small step for a man, a giant...” “Hey Neil, bro! Save that for later, will ya? You guys did NOTHING, you just landed on the near side of the moon. EVERYONE can do that!” Without joking around, there wasn't anything NASA would achieve by landing on the far side, at the price of jeopardizing a mission (so much more complexity, so many more things to go wrong). With a lack of certain benefits, either on the size of prestige and on the side of scientific gains, it simply wasn't worth the risk. Keep in mind that the scientific reasons we have now to go the far side probably didn't exist fifty years ago, as we knew far less about the moon (the very moon missions have changed that). -
Plugin idea but no skill to make it, help?

[1.12.X] Feline Utility Rovers v1.3.4 (28. April 2022)
Kerbart replied to Nils277's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Getting tourists from a lander into a rover, to transfer them to a surface base for a vacation, was always a complete disaster. The rover's docking port had to align perfectly with both lander and base. The extendable docking port is a game changer! This takes away so much frustration. Thank you! -
Say Hello to The Rep Grand Group! [07/19/16 UPDATE!]
Kerbart replied to Endersmens's topic in Kerbal Network
Find some threads with polarizing conflict (hint: "mechjeb," "console," "take two" and "making history" are excellent places to start your search, but don't let that limit your imagination), don your flame-repellent suit and jump in feet first, screaming "Lllleerrrrroooy Jjjjjeeenkins!" I'm not saying that it's a conscious strategy I'm following, and don't let all what I'm writing fool you into thinking I'm after a high rep count, but I can tell you that it certainly works. And now it's time to post in some other threads. * Yells "to the troll cave" *- 929 replies

KSP Calculations Spreadsheet [inDev]
Kerbart replied to Pretorian28715's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
I was lucky about the time I logged in. Also; I like to think I know a lot about Excel. There are certain things I'm confident answering without checking (or merely a quick "did I get that right" kinda check, without having to look anything up). -
KSP Calculations Spreadsheet [inDev]
Kerbart replied to Pretorian28715's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
Assuming you want to point to various locations in such a file, and assuming I understand correctly what it is you want, here is what I would do: 1) Put the path in a "KSP CALC LIBRARY FILE" cell. Why in a cell? Because it's easy to update for the end user, so they can put their own location for said file there. 2) Use Names for all specific ranges in the KSP calc file, using the INDIRECT method stated before. So you can have a ksp_planets range, a ksp_engine range, etc. -
KSP Calculations Spreadsheet [inDev]
Kerbart replied to Pretorian28715's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
@Pretorian28715 Unless you define a system variable there's no way for Excel to figure out where KSP resides. With a "copy & paste" install there's not even a registry key you can harvest for that. Theoretically you could write a macro to search for ksp.exe and populate a cell with that folder, but how can you be certain it's the right ksp folder (you might very well have multiples). The simplest and most reliable solution, in my mind, is to populate a cell that contains your "ksp path" -

Yes, whatever comes out of indirect is regarded a regular cell range, so you can use it inside a vlookup without problems -
From the few scenes that I caught (I'm not going to watch a 90 minute video as a whole) it seems like you're chasing the target position without ever killing lateral velocity. Your primary marks should not be the pink position markers, but rather the yellow velocity ones. Aim to the and reduce velocity to zero. Align your ship with the target docking port and then, slowly, maneuver sideways until you have the marker in the center. Now you're aimed towards the docking port and you're aligned with it, and you can now move forward (keeping it centered). Mods like the Navyfish docking port alignment indicator, or the navball docking port indicator are highly recommended.
-
...and that statement probably explains why. You should practice docking with the smallest, lightest vehicles possible first, because they are the easiest to maneuver around. Think of a Mk1 capsule, an FLT-100 tank, and an LV909 terrier. Obviously docking port, batteries, RCS thrusters, etc. Take two of those and keep practicing. Any craft that is big enough to have half of it torn off while docking sounds like way too big to be agile and easy to maneuver around. The first time I docked was a 30 minute white-knuckle experience requiring large RCS tanks. Nowadays, rendez-vous and docking combined takes me just a few minutes and the capsules alone usually carry more than enough RCS for all the docking in their lifetime. It's really something that turns into “trivial” over time after doing it again and again. But you have to practice first.

KSP Calculations Spreadsheet [inDev]
Kerbart replied to Pretorian28715's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
The Indirect function converts a text into a cell range. Suppose you want to get twice the value of cell A2. Normally, you'd do it this way: =A2*2 But with the indirect function, you'd do it this way: =INDIRECT("A2") * 2 Now, that seems like a stupid way to do it, and it is, in the above example. But let's say that the cell A3 contains your "KSP Path" Instead of hardcoding ='R:\my ksp folder\[example.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$1 you can now write: =INDIRECT("'" & A3 & "\[example.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$1 and make your formula dependent on a single cell that contains the KSP path (instead of having to change it all over the place). Obviously you want to make A3 a named range and name it "KSP_FOLDER" or something along those lines, but you get the point.
