  1. Sounds like it's time for a new one! I've really enjoyed reading your diary.
  2. Ahhhh Ok. I apologize for cluttering up the thread Incidentally I thought it was still a part of the mod because the LaunchSites.cfg file is still in the RSS mod and I'd seen it there in previous versions (I updated it with an approximation of the Musudan Ri launch site in the DPRK (N. Korea). Well, that's one snake clubbed... On to the next!
  3. I generally don't like doing this... But.... http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/55145-1-0-x-Real-Solar-System-v10-0-1-Jun-16/page573 I updated the post and I want to make sure it is seen. All the relevant information should be there, please let me know if there is something else I can add,
  4. Same, but that's probably intended until rbray's new tools are implemented? I wish I knew more about coding... or even how to code for ksp. I'd live ti be able to help more.... Edit: clouds on Venus might be enabled the same way as clouds on Earth? It's just a thought and I'll test after I get other launch sites working in RSS
  5. I played RSS on .90 and I have been looking forward to RSS on 1.0.2. So... Yeah jumped at it when I finally saw it was updated! (Love the mod btw) That said, I found a bug. I originally installed this with a bunch of mods, but I have found the problem with only RSS installed. KSP: 1.0.2 Linux 64Bit OS: Linux Mint Debian 17.1 Problem: Alternate Launch Sites do not load so are not selectable. They do not appear in the Tracking Station. Mods Installed: RSS 10.0.1 Kopernicus (Bundled with RSS 10.0.1) Module Manager 2.6.5 Reproduction Steps: 1.) Start with a fresh install of KSP 1.0.2 2.) Install RSS as instructed 3.) Start KSP 4.) Enter the Tracking Station. No launch sites are displayed. No menu options are presented. Log File https://www.dropbox.com/s/qi0qwltkd834hc2/Player.log?dl=0
  6. I found a mod that I like that alters the tech tree so.... Going to start over. Oh. And Slipshot's closed
  7. E-1 To Launch in Seven Days! An Interview By Udgas Kerman With the launch of our first sub-orbital rocket, what can be expected? What great adventure is expected of our first Kerbalnoughts? We meet with Bill Kerman, designated pilot of the E-1, named [i}Rock{/I[ With us is Bill Kerman, winner of the draw to fly the Rock[/i} Udgas: We're honored to have you here Bill, what can you tell us about your mission? Bill: Well, Udgas, I am to be a trained gerbil... Oh... Ah... I am a brave explorer of our atmosphere..... Not like others haven't flown higher....*Sigh* I am sure that that I will NOT be a trained.... Um... I WILL be... Stinking monkeys..... Well, obviously, I am testing spacecraft systems for those who are going into space. I am proud to be testing these systems... Obviously, making sure that everyone gets home safely is my TOP priority..... Udgas: Well, that's all we have time for..... *cough*I was told I could ask more questions..... Bill: What?! I-----
  8. From the United Kerbal Press, by Udgas Kerman. A-1 Too Difficult a Standard? It was determined today that the standard A-1 had a too high of a landing speed in simulations and upon landing, braking was asymmetrical.. Specialist 1C Bill suggested that flaps be added to the upper surfaces of the main wing, and thus adopted into the A-1B. With this modification, the A-1B has been determined to be the test aircraft for the competition. As the pilot that was instrumental in discovering the "flaws" in the basic A-1, Jebediah Kerman has been chosen as one of the first Kerbals from the Republic to be catapulted into space. However, this has delayed the flights of the finalists of the 'Space Race' Much has yet to be accomplished. The capsule has yet to be decided on. The cost has yet to be negotiated.... In short. the first extra-atmospheric flight has parameters that haven't been set yet. The Press has reported Jeb as saying.... "I found these flaws... I flew the best flight... Oh! Hi! *Cough* You didn't catch that did you ?.... You did....? Well, I did the work... I should be first! This competition is for PR purposes.... The director's memory is... Well, it's not good... No, I fully support... Gaaahg! Get that.... What?! Is that.. No! That can't be legal! Get away from me!" Jeb seems to have reacted adversely to our methods of determining honesty. One can only wonder why someone who is being honest would object to the best ways of testing the veracity with the probe. The freely elected president says we...Oh... We can't mention that...? *Cough* Are we broadcasting....? You can edit.... It's live....? *cough* (unintelligible) Anyway! We have reports that the A-1 has been modified with what engineers are calling spoilers on the main wing. Those in the military are calling this the A-1B. Generals in the Republic Air Force are saying that this modification will extend the A-1's service lifetime for the next twenty years! Maybe less. "Kietnam might end in the next decade with this addition to our attack aircraft." General West Kermorland stated. Testing continues for the much coveted first into space! This reporter knows Jebediah will make the finalists, no matter the competition! Like our society, the A-1 is changing to what is needed! A smaller, better aircraft, all the better to choose our first Kerbal into space!
  9. Hello Everybody! (Hello Dr. Ni-- Erm Fizwalker!) So, after reading through TrooperCooper's Diary (Found here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/122674-KSA-career-diary ) I thought I might do the same kinda thing. My career is modded and I have altered some aero parts so that I have access to them from the start (namely the basic adjustable landing gear, and the propeller engines from KAX. That said, I also started myself with 120 science and a large grant to upgrade basic facilities. I also get twice the funds and science from contracts. Balancing this out is I have RemoteTech and Lifesupport by Thunder Aerospace. (I should post an image of the mods I am using, but I've just started to use Linux Mint, and I don't know how to do that yet.... Once I figure that out, I'll update this with a pic of the mods I am using. ) Oh yeah, I am using Kerbal Construction Time too. *Cough* Anyway, without further ado... Here it begins. Having been given an old air force base used by the Kerbal Republic, Slipshot Aerospace has set about upgrading the facilities to support it's contract to lead Kerbal-kind into exploring the Kerbol system. Corporate (with government support) strategy insisted that test pilots be on the fore front of this effort, and not trained hamsters.... To this end, development of training aircraft has been the first step. The goal of these aircraft is to determine who shall go to space first. The Republic sold two obsolescent A-1 attack aircraft along with the rights to build more as the basis for these tests. Accepting delivery of these aircraft, contestants have been put through the simulators. The pilots that crash the least.... Will get the opportunity to fly the real aircraft and the one who demonstrates the most proficiency will be on the first rocket into space. The current roster includes the original four draftees.... Err volunteers are Jebediah, Bill, Bob and Valentina. Filling out the other six recruits are Tradie, a civilian from Koeing Aerospace. Lagertrude from the Republic Air Force and likes to fly by the numbers, Wenemma and goes by Emma, is from the Republic Navy with countless carrier landings under her belt and fresh from the command of a squadron. Hardon is a Republic Navy test pilot from Katuxent Naval Test Center. Billy-Bobfry is also an Air Force pilot from Kuroc and is the highest flying test pilot so far recorded. Gemzy is also from Kuroc and she is rumored to hold the speed record at mach 2.9. Despite arguments by Bill and Bob that pilots wouldn't be needed, the competition for the first into space and orbit has been limited to pilots. Sulking, they point out that the first into space won't actually control their craft.... And that they may even endanger the mission by trying to operate outside of the mission parameters.... Further the first "Rocket rides would be performed by engineers and scientists.... The Brass and the Supreme Elected Leader were not impressed and so pilots would be the first into space. In 16 days, the E-1 Rocket will be launched, and straws will be selected between Bill and Bob as to who will fly... Err... Ride that rocket on its sub-orbital flight. All of Kerbin awaits with trepidation and excitement the winner of the contest. Who will be first into space? Who will die in the attempt? Will it be gloriously explosive? Can the Republic beat the Kerbal Socialist States of Kerman into orbit? Stay tuned for further updates! http://fizwalker.imgur.com ((If some one can tell me how to embed the actual album into the thread, I would appreciate that.... >.> ))
  10. Ok. I seem to have found version 349 of nVidia's drivers.... and installed them fairly easily. I noticed a little lag in KSP when shifting the view with the mouse so I'm going to try seeing if changing the mouse polling rate, as found in Sal's sig links works. (Question about the polling, does it affect keyboards as well?) Edit: 349 might have developed some graphical glitches.... The inner ring of the angle tool and offset tool is a bright magenta... But other than that, it seems to work well. I will have to see how 346 works in comparison.
  11. I am a complete newbie in Linux Sal (although flailing about randomly has taught me a little about syntax with sudo....) how do I enable these repositories? ie: what are the web locations of these repositories!
  12. Maybe it's just with Cinnamon or the 319 drivers then.... For whatever reason, Cinnamon crashed without that conf file. I'm also wondering if there's something that didn't get installed with this iteration... (I messed something up with the grub boot and it sent the system into a recovery terminal prompt, I didn't know what to try to fix it so I tried to reformat and reinstall Mint. Getting that cleared took about 3 tries lol) Again, thank you for the help and pointers! EDIT: Just a strange thought. Can KSP on Linux be run from the command line? EDIT2: I have the 346 drivers from nVidia's website.... is there a reason to not use these?
  13. Strangely enough, and it's possible it got deleted when I used the repo, but I didn't have xorg.conf so I had another opportunity to learn something about Linux. I'll try what you posted above and see if that works
  14. Strangely enough, apparently I didn't have an Xorg.conf file... So... Having fun creating one! - - - Updated - - - Don't know yet! I am creating an Xorg.conf file, but when I can play I'll try it out and pass on what I've learned! Edit: And apparently successfully!
  15. Oh for the love of.....! *face-meet-palm* Well, I learned a little more than I did before! lol Although, the version it states is up to date is version 319 of the nVidia drivers. 346 doesn't seem to be in the repository for Mint. Now I have to set up x.conf and reboot the system. I guess I was trying it the hard way through the terminal. >.> Anyway, thank you for the help and the pointer! (Goes to show, given a big enough clue stick..... )
  16. Thanks for the help and advice guys! I went ahead and moved over to Mint and for the most part I enjoy it more than Debian. That said, I've spent most of the yesterday trying to install the current nVidia drivers for my card (version 346). I've run into the *Cues sinister music* NOUVEAU driver. *end sinister music * As I cannot install the proprietary drivers with Nouveau installed, and every tutorial or guide I have found.... Has directions to kill it... But it keeps popping up and so I've concluded Nouveau must be loaded very early in the boot process. This thing makes me feel like I'm playing Whack-A-Mole remotely on Pluto, with a blind fold.... and after someone's spun me around a few dozen times (or maybe while completely sloshed ). I figure that 90% of this problem is: I don't have a bloody clue what I am doing and that after I find something that works, I'm going to feel ridiculously stupid afterwards. (Thank god for the internet though.... If I had this much trouble back when I started playing games on ms-dos 3.3 and no ideas to help me out.... I wouldn't be here today!) There was a comment awhile back regarding my choice to switch to Linux. I've been leaning towards Linux for awhile now, but most everything I run on my machine depended on Windows. To be fair, Windows 7 is decent enough as things go, but I don't really like where Windows is heading to, and I want to see what Linux offers. KSP is just the final prod to get me to switch. Oh yeah, I resurrected an old laptop and installed Debian onto that. I figure that once I get my desktop to run the way I want, I can mess around with other distros or... Um... systems before putting it on the desktop. (Anyone find the term 'desktop' kind of weird considering towers aren't usually on top of a desk these days.....?) I could use some help in what to try next. This is the info from inxi -SGx: System: Host: phome.net Kernel: 3.11-2-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit, gcc: 4.8.1) Desktop: Cinnamon 2.0.14 Distro: LinuxMint 1 debian Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GF114 [GeForce GTX 560 Ti] bus-ID: 01:00.0 X.Org: 1.14.3 drivers: nouveau (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) Resolution: [email protected] GLX Renderer: Gallium 0.4 on NVCE GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 9.2.2 Direct Rendering: Yes How the hades do I get rid of nouveau....? I think I understand, or at least I can follow instructions, well enough to get the drivers installed after that...
  17. They blinded me with SCIENCE! Sorry! I couldn't resist......
  18. Not anymore! If I had known and had been able to use Linux back then......No, back then I was still stuck on my mother's machine.... Which was using DOS 5.0. She went away on business for a week, and I upgraded her system to Win 95 so I could play Red Alert with good graphics.... and when I reverted back to DOS 5, I forgot the sound drivers.... >.> Oh and did I mention I was banned from her computer prior to her trip? ... Yeah that turned out real well.....
  19. Frankly, this has kinda openned my eyes in a way I haven't been since I wrote batch files to eek out the most memory on my mother's 286 just so I could play SimCity or X-Wing. I've been meaning to learn Linux for awhile now.. But I've been a little intimidated. For good or ill, the best way for me to learn is to head into the deep end and ask questions as either I sink or swim. First question is... What is OOTB? Be kind! I'm coming out of the drug haze of Windows.......
  20. I'm not overly attatched to Cinnamon yet. I'd be lying if I said I had a clue what I was doing.... But.... Iceweasel seems to be a lot like Firefox...
  21. In my case, I am already frustrated by windows in particular and microsoft in general. The distro I have, I got because of the system requirements on Squad's page. Frankly, I found out, after I have the disc I have, that there is a Mint that is based on Debian (no, I did not see those threads Mega and I appreciate you bringing them forward. I wish they'd been stickied before I made my choice....) Like I said in the OP, I have a DL'd copy of Mint-Debian but it looks like I have to burn it to a disc before I can install it. Robotengineer, ajburges, I appreciate your feedback. Edit: This is the first time in almost 6 months that my desktop has been online.... Regardless if this was the right choice or not, I am glad I'm off of Windows....
  22. The only real additions from Mk2 Extended would be edges like the ones on the SR-71... It might give a little lift, but I think it would me mostly cosmetic! Still, love the ship! :)

  23. So, I have installed Linux for the first time. I have played KSP on Windows.... And well.... I have a voracious appetite for mods, and 32bit just wasn't cutting it anymore. After hearing rumors that Linux supports 64bit.... And as many mods as 16 GB of RAM can handle..... Well, I am here now. I honestly kinda picked a distro kind of at random. I am a complete newb and I know next to nothing about Linux other than it is based on Unix... (which I got some training courtesy of Uncle Sam a little over a decade ago). I digress a little though. I picked up a copy of Debian 8 with the Cinnamon desktop (I am guessing that's a reference to the desktop enviroment?) through OSdisc.com.... I also have a copy of Mint-Debian on a thumb drive though I think I need to burn a DVD of that before I can install it... If I wanted to. I think I know just enough to get myself in trouble. I guess that my question is, what do I need to know about using Linux with KSP and vis versa. Perhaps this could become a thread of what to consider when migrating from Windows over to Linux, what to consider etc for someone who knows nothing about it.... First thing I'll contribute, through trial and error is, that Debian 8, GNOME and ATI don't mix well for performance. I didn't really try playing the game per se, but just the initial menu screen was really choppy. In trying to get updated drivers for my video card, I learned that ATI recommends using the drivers that came with the OS. I've been using my HD TV as a screen, but the "Free Radeon" drivers limited me to 1260 by 440 pixels (I could be remembering the last number wrong.....) Fortunately for me, I had an nVidia 560 Ti as a backup. Other than the base drivers have told me that my 40" TV is really a 72" TV, it seems to work better. (I've downloaded the updated drivers but I haven't installed them yet. I've kinda lept in with both feet, but if I had this to do again, I might run a dual boot system and preserve my MS Office documents and iTunes. I kinda thought that I could use Windows programs with Linux.... and I guess you can with an emulator named Wine. That said, there are music players in Linux that will play the non DRM files in my library so the iTunes thing might be a brief headache while I get that sorted out. Anyway, what other concerns and considerations are out there when switching to Linux? Which distro is the most newbie friendly one? This doesn't apply to me, but if the person's machine has 4 GB of RAM is it worth it to switch to Linux, and if so what are the arguments for (or against)? A final note, I started this thread to help information to be passed to users who are considering switching from Windows or OSX to Linux as to the benefits and/or pitfalls of the switch. I would appreciate it if the arguements are made with this in mind. I would appreciate it if when people contribute to this thread, they refrain from bashing other OS's. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. My copy of Linux is, according to the disc,: Debian Live 8.0 Cinnamon
  24. Generally, I couldn't really care less. On the other hand while I was in the military, I worked with a system that was intended to shoot down ICBMs and the like, so I'm kinda curious to try and create a Kerballized version.
  25. Strangely enough, I had to run RSS/RO to figure this little trick out. MechJeb will work, with pretty much the stock turn profile with the following changes. I start with an SLT of between 1.2 and 1.9 with around 3k m/s2 of dV on the first stage. So far, I use basic fins on my 1.25m rockets. My second stage starts with a TWR (don't use the SLT one for this stage) of between .8 and .9 and between 1.5k to 2k dV. As long as the rocket is relatively aerodynamic, it ought to get the job done. Starting the gravity turn on this when your rocket reaches around 100m/s. For lower SLT TWRs, this is usually around 1.5 km up, higher ones are closer to 1km. Incidently, I have found that if there is a lot of oscillation, then reducing the gimbal on the first stage to around 50% helps dampen out the inputs. Keep trying buddy! Getting the hang of it can be a hurdle, but you'll get there! Edit: You might consider adding FAR as it allows you to dampen the control inputs from various aerodynamic control surfaces.
