Limited Fuel at KSC option for Sandbox
lajoswinkler replied to roguelycan's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Excellent idea. -
That is great news and a something for Squad to think about. Simplified and elegant solution which makes the engine have low or perhaps even zero electrical generation when the radiative transmission is enormous (close to Kerbol, perhaps even near Moho; we need to test this), which is the time to use solar panels. Far away from Kerbol, it's nuclear time. Have you implemented NuclearWaste, with relation UraniumDioxide + NuclearWaste = 1, or you just used massless UraniumDioxide which diminishes in quantity? The idea should be expanded, too. If the engine is supplied with radiators (Interstellar has great ones), it could be turned on to fission without thrusting. It could produce electricity and safely dispose off the heat. You don't want to thrust aimlessly far away form home just to get some juice.

This siren... we have it, too at the same time. I HATE the damn thing. I grew up during a war and shelters, air raids and bombs raining over my town is part of my childhood. Every time I hear that god damn sound my heart goes to my throat and my legs freeze a bit. It left a permanent Pavlovnian scar in my brain. As ZedNova said, it would make one hell of a difference. Unless you're close to the area in the immediate vicinity of a hypocenter, which is a fragment of the total devastation area, you have a great chance of initial survival if you don't get hit by the blast wave carrying debris. Duck and cover is a lifesaving thing, especially if you're in a room. Duck and cover against a wall and if the building collapses you'll likely end up in a triangular void. It's all about increasing chance of survival, not making them 100%. If you saw a flash and you knew what it was, would you stand there like a stupid turkey with your head high and neck exposed? Gobble-gobble? No, you'd duck and cover.

Yes, that fission product heat (few percent in the first hour or so) which makes LV-N glow like mad for a long time is what we'd like to exploit. We're having a lively discussion right now at the Steam KSP Forum group about it. One guy is trying to code a plugin.

Yes, that would simplify a lot of things. I was just thinking about this today because I don't want to haul two nuclear things. It's a good idea, but I doubt we'll see it soon in KSP. It does exist as a real design.

a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k The plan is to send a more compact and sturdy ship without a centrifuge because last time it nearly broke in half and burned up during the aerobraking procedure. It would have a tiny robotic rover that would come close to the unidentified object (kind of like Mission To Mars movie) before Kerbals go there by themselves. Safety first. LOL The lander will be called Kerpernicus, as it was suggested by Kieve who won the "guess the reentry speed" contest. I hope the propulsion will be an updated KSPX LN-NB engine, the first true nuclear 2.5 m engine now running on liquid fuel only. DeepFreeze is abandoned, and I want to use TAC, but the trip to Urlum is so incredibly long that the Kerbals would all die. I'll probably send 4 of the orange suited ones. CaptainKorhonen therefore suggested the SETI Greenhouse mod. It does not offer a self-sustaining environment, but it significantly lowers the onboard consumption, at the expense of space and delta v, which is fine as it's an experiment with realism. If the mod doesn't require sunlight, Kron 4 will be possible. Other ideas would be highly appreciated. edit: sunlight is not needed and, for the time being, SETI Greenhouse will be part of the mission. Here's the conceptual design. The actual ship will probably look a lot more different.

As the DeepFreeze mod is abandoned, I'm considering to use this module for producing food for 4 Kerbals on their way to Urlum (Outer Planets Mod) on my Kron 4 mission. Does this greenhouse require sunlight or can it work with electricity only? I'd carry a nuclear reactor. Urlum is so far away from Kerbol and it's so dark there that solar panels don't work anymore.
-
DeepFreeze seems to be abandoned. Someone could carry on the torch, but it would require author's permission. His last post was in December 2014 so it's obvious he's not visiting the forum anymore. Too bad, because this was the only way to use life support mods without the crew dying during long trips to stock-alike planets of Outer Planets Mod. It's pretty much essential.

[1.8-1.12] TextureReplacer 4.5.3 (8.2.2022)
lajoswinkler replied to shaw's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Yes, that's exactly what has been happening to me with Oinker's skybox. Now I've downloaded the newest TR and instead of gray thing I get original skybox. One of the texture files simply doesn't want to load. -
You sound creepy. Explain yourself.
-
Wow. Noice.

Is the whole updating frenzy over? I haven't touched KSP since the day 1.0.1. came out. Are we safe now?
-
No, they are not anything like grenades. Grenades burst into schrapnels. Fairings open into two or four identical pieces. KSP stock fairings are pretty much like a bad grenade. Not even overheated gas tanks explode like that. Also, they have zero mass which is not how it's supposed to be.

Except school (which is the best idea), you can also get some private classes. There are also numerous free online classes you can take, as well as YouTube channels dedicated to learning English. Buying an English phrase book (usually available in tourist shops) is a good idea, but that won't teach you the grammar. You really need tutoring to get the grammar which is really not that hard. English is one of the easiest languages to learn. It lacks many things other languages have so people can learn it a lot faster.

Whack a Kerbal
lajoswinkler replied to Ethanadams's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
I've never seen any vessel visible on the launch pad when in VAB. But yes, you can cause destruction using heavy whack-a-kerbal objects. -

That's so zef.
