KSP Version: 1.7.1 (Linux, non-steam) What Happens: When using a level 2 VAB or SPH (not level 1 or 3) it;s possible to get the advanced action groups to show up with some clickign around. Mods / Add-Ons: Breaking ground, Making History Steps to Replicate: In career mode unlock the lever 2 VAB and some science. Create a basic rocket with 2 science parts (not ins symmetry) and go into the action group tab. It will only list the basic action groups as it should, Then select a science part or something else with actions. The advanced actions (numbers 1-9) show up. If it doesn't work with the first item chosen chose the other science part and it will show up then and stick around as long as you are in the action group tab. The advanced actions can than be assigned and used. Result: The advanced action groups can be used before they are unlocked. Fixes/Workarounds: Don't use the advanced groups until you unlock the level 3 building.

I'm tryign to create a mover with wheels I can pack up and move so it;s compact when transported but it has a wide base for wheels. However when dealign with hinges and rotors there are a lot of symetry issues, in this case for example the rotor is attaching on the left-side node in both cases... I am also havving issues where it looks fine in the VAB but when I deploy to the runday for testign some hinges disconect... the hinge and attached parts then just behave as physics would dictate for a disconected part... but it;s still drawing power and commands from the larger vessel. I have not been able to trigger this bug very reliably though. I do have a particularly pathelogical test rover to share if you need s test file.

I am trying to create an unforlding rover with the wheels mounted on pistons... but the wheels will stay in place as the piston moves through them. Particularly I am using the 1p2 psiton and the rovomax S2 wheels.

Kerbal Space Program Breaks Ground with a New DLC!
CattyNebulart replied to UomoCapra's topic in 2019
I am so looking forward to the DLC. I was an early backer so I don;t need to buy it for myself... but I will to gift for some of my friends. I trust squad enough, especially since they spent the time before Christmas releasing bug-fixes and stability improvements, unlike some other game publishers. This kind of good behavior deserves to be applauded and rewarded. Plus I love KSP.- 1,121 replies

Huh I am the opposite. I often use skippers because they have better ISP than mamoths, and they are cheaper, and they are strong enoguh to get an upper stage with a poodle out of the atmosphere or even into orbit outright. If I need more thrust I asperegus some extra stages on there or go to beefier engines than the mamoth. So for me the mamoth is the rarely used engine for me.

Honestly while 1.4.0 is full of glarign bugs that should have been caught it's not nearly as bad as it was in the 1.0 days. But yes QA clearly clearly failed, and they need to release a few more patches to fix things, esspecialy the top row of icons still beign vut in half in 1.4.1. They fixed it on mac but not on linux? WTH?

KSP store broken?
CattyNebulart replied to g00bd0g's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
They made a note in the anouncement forum sayign that it takes them a few hours to add it to all the early purchasers. -
I am trying to use the KSP store to download 1.4.1 but I keep getting bounced back to the front page. I assume the store page is just having issues under heavy load?

Kerbal Space Program update 1.4 Grand Discussion thread.
CattyNebulart replied to UomoCapra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
So after playing with 1.4 some more I feel like I have to revise my opinion a bit. Yes there are a bunch of glitches that should have been caught (Decoupler not playing nice with FL-T400, the cut in half icons, the sound issues, reentry particle effects 1-3 IVA) but if fixed the update will be an improvement over 1.3, and performance seems to be markedly better, or rather take much better advantage of the plentyfull cores. So they should probably have taken a bit longer for some polish but the game moslty works. -
I have a fairly basic rocket in early career and the TD-12 decoplers look very graphically glitchy with the FL-T400 fuel tanks, it doesn't affect the T100, t200 or the MK1 fuel tank. I havn;t noticed this glitch wiht other combinations just the TD-12 to the FL-T400. I have noticed other parts clipping the decouplers when attached but since they don;t Z-fight it's very ignorable. The 400 though is flickering like a strobelight. Will this be fixed in 1.4.1?

Kerbal Space Program update 1.4 Grand Discussion thread.
CattyNebulart replied to UomoCapra's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well I poked a bit at 1.4 and so far it seems glitchy (icons cut in half) and the graphical quality looks to have taken a significant step backward, the new reentry particle effect looks horrible esspecialy compared to what came before, also when zoomign out the rentry particly effect just suiddenly disapears, even if it was filling the whole screen before the tick oif the mousewheel that zooms out to the point where is it just gone. It seems like it could have benefited from a pre-release to catch some bugs and get some polish. -

CattyNebulart replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
It's just a probe with 2 scansat sensors (terrain and biome) on the way to the first gas giant to map it and maybe its moons if it has enough DV. Candle nuclear engine on the final stage.- 7,371 replies

CattyNebulart replied to Galileo's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Gael seems to suffer from some global warming (reloadign the scene fixed it but comming back to a messed up spacecenter is normal with the mod. It also happens in stock though I have never seen flooding before.)- 7,371 replies

Is it true that most KSP players never go interplanetary?
CattyNebulart replied to KerikBalm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
In most of my career games I will start an interplanetary mission or two (probes towards duna and sometimes eve or jool) and then turn to other closer missions while the probe is underway and then abandon the game for some reason or another. Ussualy because I am buildign a base on minmus and get fustrated by KAS or a shiny new release comes out or other games or.... Hopefully Kerbnet will smooth the transition from short misions to long missions out a bit so I will actually do some interplanetary missions. -
Letting the ISS burn up......Why?
CattyNebulart replied to Vaporized Steel's topic in Science & Spaceflight
There is not that much room, the densest part of the van allen belts is a bit over 000km up. the current ISS orbiit is at 400some km, and current radiation levels are around 1mSv per day, but during solar storms the van allen belts can be pushed down to 200km... in those cases the astronauts and some sensitive equipment have to be in a special shelter to reduce the impact. So one of these red boxes each day, more during a solar storm. https://xkcd.com/radiation/ That is what the equipment is built to survive, it can't go higher as the flux ramps up by orders of magnitude, and the ISS's inclination is such that it would have to pass through the belts unlike say appolo which had an inclination that skirted through the outer edges and was going very very fast. That is not possible with the ISS unless you do an inclination change and add more boosters. The ISS can't handle interplanetary radiation levels, and the van allen belt is 3 orders of magnitude more intense. And just look at how sharply the van alen belts ramp up, the blue is orders of magnitude less than the red; (First image is outer belts only) Higher orbit also means more debris, and a longer lasing impact if the ISS is hit and fragments. It also means more fuel would need to be used for avoidance maneuvers negating some of the gains from needing less boosts. -
Heap of bugs
CattyNebulart replied to TAz00's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Huh, I have that happening on Mint (Ubuntu derivative) x64 with a Geforce GTX 980... but it doesn;t seem like the kind of thing affected by the graphics card.
