What do you think about Windows 8
SpaceHole replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yeah i will never get tablets either. - most of the time for mobile tasks like reading news i use my smartphone which can do anything a tablet do on a smaller scale - when i want to do something productive i obviously move to the PC - when i want to read an ebook i buy a real ebook reader that wont strain my eyes - when i went to university it would have been a nice tool to watch presentations and scripts yet the ebook-reader argument still is valid not to mention that i prefer to have things in paper The question is what is the purpose of touchscreen-tablets besides beeing some sort of toy? From my point of view Smartphones actually deny every single useful aspect they have. So from my personal point of view it seems that people that have a touchpad either use it as a toy or just to brag with it. (it might could be useful if it was also some kind of universal remote for your apartment but thats not an argument since imlementing something like this will get pretty expensive) -
There is a difference between thinking of yourself and others humans as important in a normal context and thinking you are the center of the universe ... We are important - to each other - peoples lives are important in their personal and friends point of view. But not in such a ridiculous point of view. The universe will continue even if mankind ceases to exist. And yeah for a reality show watched by humans sadly. Are you amused by watching ants? Point is a species capable of doing such things would probably not do them in the first place and would not be anything like humans.
-
Its funny how narcissistic humans are. Universe: about 13.77 billion years old 13,700,000,000 years First human-like creatures: about 2.3 Million years ago 2,300,000 years So humans life makes up about 0.015788 percent of the age of the universe. Yeah everything rotates around us we are so important ... (not to mention that we should probably compare the stats for modern humans ...) I doubt anyone would want to watch beeings killing and torturing themselves making up stories for decades and discriminating each other ... Also as others said there are no answers to such questions. Thats like questioning about a stones motivation. Anyhow most answers will be about how great and important humans are - since thats how we are - the earth sadlys isnt the center of the solar system but at least humans seem to be the center of the complete universe ...

I think everything that is "too good to be true" is cheating. Most mods actually make the game harder or have balanced parts so its not cheating. Also as others mentioned yes it may be cheating but its still a singleplayer-game so its okay to do it as long as you dont pretend online to have achieved something you actually cheated to achieve. Also you should consider that by using programs like Mechjeb you actually loose big parts of the actual gameplay. Pretty much like playing a Singleplayer-Shooter with an Aimbot. (Also i only consider MJ as "cheating" when it comes down to the autopilot) But you should always consider one thing - once you cheat chances are a game will get boring fast since one thing is true in gaming "the path is the goal" - also chances are that by cheating you will actually loose the interrest in doing such things ingame on your own because they will at some point only seem boring. I dont see why people are arguing that there is no cheating in single-player probably some form of self-protection. There were times when cheating in SP was even considered fun (big head cheats etc.). Anyhow as i said and will say again as long as you do it in SP and dont pretend to be able to do these things without cheats online i dont see a problem. Also i think cheating offline and online has similar effects on the person doing it - its about instant reward and accomplishments even if those are not real. I would never cheat in KSP because i know that by doing so i would probably loose a lot of interrest in the game due to the new mentality like "Why should i spend hours of playtime to build my space-base" when i could just autopilot or even "beam" them there?" Point is it is somewhat boring or even stupid to waste time but it still also is fun - and most important once i start doing what i just said the game will be boring pretty soon. So Autopilots for me are a no-go. On the other hand i would be interrested in "real-autopilots" that have to be created by the user for every single space-rocket they create. I think testing the best settings for your rocket and tweaking it not to mention getting it to go to orbit in the first place is probably a lot of fun.

Yeah Diablo II was a letdown - a pretty big one Skyrim - flashy graphics? - Are you for real? If you want to play a good RPG play Witcher 2 - if you disliked the first one thats not bad - i also didnt like it the second one is completely differnt.
-
It actually sounds interresting but they already start with things that really are annoying: - Exclusive star system for pre-launch backers. This also is a bad sign for the future since it means that they probably will make more parts in the game like this accessable to only a few players willing to pay. Which is awful and destroys games. Its just like those map-packs for COD which are way overpriced and the kids that buy them can hardly play them because there are only so few people playing there. I dislike this new gaming industry where people actually have different games. It is not that bad when its only pointless items - but this is awful. Also to be honest Star Citizen looks like a moneygrab now. Just compare the Budget increases with what they will add to the game ...

What do you think about Windows 8
SpaceHole replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well its not just you and no one will adapt to touch-screen only ever when it comes to working on your pc or surfing. Just try to hold your hands streight in front of you for a while - either human physique changes to adapt to touch-screens by getting unproportionally big arms or it just wont be the "future". Also touch can never compare to the speed and precision of a mouse so its not suited for lots of tasks in the first place. Also there was the MS idea to have your Display laying in front of you but i doubt that that is very good for your neck. Yet the future is now a revolutionary company has already figured out the best possible interface for everyone: If youre still into keyboards your backwards. Dont live in the past join the innovation. -
What do you think about Windows 8
SpaceHole replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It is as if MS is trying to become the most consumer-unfriendly company there is. Windows 8 was awful and stupid it was even worse than their first obvious mistake: - First they tried to get Desktop OS to phones (it was akward but it had some nice features) - Now they tried to get Tablet OS to Desktop and failed again Is it really that hard to realize that each plattform needs a different interface? Obviously for MS it is. I look forward to the downfall of MS for its big-headed new course. They seem to think that they are in a position to dicate the market and i hope it will go on like now with their XboxOne and Windows 8. If you want to see the next huge flop of MS just google for windows 10 it will be a Cloud-OS - yeah why wouldnt i want to give MS all my private data on their server ... I still use Windows right now but i will switch as soon as there are viable other options. Which will be pretty soon since MS is doing their best to loose marketshare and make other OS more interresting for developers. -

"A look at a science fiction game promising real science." Minecraft Cube flying trough space ... Website - looks meh ... Art - looks meh ... Developer Website - looks meh ... Art-Devblog: http://www.arcanelogic.com/DevBlog2.html "Space HarVee" please look at this picture ... Also not a single information on who is behind this. Sorry but i doubt that this will go on very long not to mention "aerospace guys" whatever that is supposed to mean. Also this looks like a reskin of minecraft. Sorry that im so harsh but nothing i read about this game actually gave me a positive feeling of any sort. If the Devs read this: - get good website - try to improve your graphics - either relistic - or stylized - we all know how "cool" driving in minecraft is ... - also so this is a flash game?

In-game advertising
SpaceHole replied to innovine's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
sorry but you are missing the point of what you are proposing and what the interrests of marketing-companies are. I would recommend you to especially read the part about "Dynamic in-game advertising" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-game_advertising And as others pointed out i doubt that any company would pay anyone money for putting a random fixed bitmap on a random part in the game of a random person. Also if KSP would do this i would be very dissapointed and probably think twice about every future investment in things from this developer not to mention that i would block KSPs internet and remove ads ingame with modifications. -
most AAA-Games are a disgrace - all of them spend way more money on advertisment than on development - good developers ware bought and destroyed - everything is just stupidly expensive buying meh but well known voice actors etc. Even wikipedia pretty much sums it up: "is a lingo for games with enormous magketing budget" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AAA#Games Actually i consider AAA a bad thing which will actually make me more cautious. I only buy games after reading and watching a mixture of user and press reviews. The times where one could just buy a game in a shop without thinking are long gone. The sadest part about AAA is that Quality does not represent the money that was spent. Not to mention that money invested is most of the time a joke compared to marketing just look at the COD franchise - they made so much money its ridiculous. Yet they still have awful quality an engine that is alomst a decade - yet the only thign that stands out is their marketing-budget ... To proof my point: "Witcher 2" - great art - great modeling - great textures - great animation - great voiceacting - amazingly long and in the end it costed "only" about 15 million dollars. Also i will never understand what is so great about Skyrim - without modding its probably the most boring game on earth and i cant figure out why they cant do good faces, aninmations and fighting mechanics after earnign so much money or at least hire someone who can. It especially is rather sad if you look at all the mods that often show up within weeks and exceed what those "professionals" were able to create in years ... AAA-Gaming in a Nutshell: 200 Million Budget and they cant even do decent animations ... EDIT: I meesed up my informations - EA for example uses 3 times the money for marketing they use for development ... (BTW this just shows how awful gaming has become these days - im not sure if going mainstream was a good thing for gaming - it even killed some genres like simulations) (Anyone remembers Falcon 4.0 ? ) http://www.gamersdailynews.com/story-13183-EA-Portable-Games-Hardware-Now-Outnumbers-Consoles-By-2to1.html

Sorry but no. The soundtrack isnt bad but it just doesnt seem to fit well its way to intrusive. It somehow reminds me of Starfox or some other N64 game hmm Also i think the soundtrack in general is too complex with too many things happening. Sometimes less complex and less intrusive is the way to go. For example the soundtrack of minecraft is very simple yet i enjoy it becaues it fits. The soundtrack used in this video would just get very annoying very fast. Also i dont see how you changed the soundtrack? I would agree that KSP needs more variation but you did the same as the main game. 1 Theme for the Planet - 1 for Space so where is the difference?

In-game advertising
SpaceHole replied to innovine's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I know that - i didnt missunderstand the OP it is possible to insert animated pictures with sound into games. And it obviously has benefits for Ad-Companies since it makes the Ad way more visible. Also i just posted about some of my expirience with ads. I also thought about the carreer mode thing but to be honest - i dont get the point maybe on signs at your space-buildlings but it makes no sense on rockets no one is ever going to see again also the performance problems will still be the same. Squad can profit of the game if it become great and successfull. "Nuking" consumers with ads is not the way to go. I would feel betrayed since people that seem to not care about their privacy actually sell their privacy so that Squad gains profit giving them in-game advantages. Why would i consider that a good idea? Also who would want to do what you just said - people could easily just disable the ads and no one would ever know and Ad-companies would have no information if it is even seen ingame. Just because something can bring you more money doesnt mean its necessarily a good thing. They could for example also start selling premium parts that you pay for with actual money ingame. You can choose to not buy them or buy them and help Squad make more money - how would you feel about that ... ? -
In-game advertising
SpaceHole replied to innovine's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
NO, No and no. Also i would feel cheated if people get a free bonus for neither caring about their privacy nor about their performance nor about their inversion of the game. - privacy issues -> advertisement relies on getting data aswell so you can be assured data would be sent to those companies and you had to connect to servers at some point not knowing what will be sent. - performance issues -> since everything is loaded into your memory you would have pointless data in it ... - inversion -> BRB playing KSP while beeing spammed with probably animated adds for dishwashers ... This might be an option for F2P games but it is beyond offending in games one pays for. There are some games where i donct care about them - like real adds in soccer games etc. where they actually make sense and are "normal". As others said i hate advertisments and if i pay for something i demand not to be bothered with them. I bought TF2 when it wasnt F2P and forced advertisment videos with sound when connecting to a server that cant be skipped make me actually pretty angry. (BRB listening to musc getting almost deaf by ads ...) -
I think the main problem is, that whatever is included in the game has to be balanced. As of now an antimatter-Engine seems to scifi and also way to good. If traveling gets too easy the game will get boring.

So i just sent a new Kerbal to rescue the Kerbal that stranded on the Mun. Problem is it was my second time flying there and i also had a bad landing spot (one of the huge craters so i pretty much slided forever. Point is my Kerbal rescue-Rocket is pretty far away from the Kerbal that has to be rescued (walking distance about 1/4 to 1/2 of the moon ...) 1) How do i get there faster? Is it even worth it to try? (i need some of the jetpacks power later on because i have no ladder ... ) 2) How do i get any menues when walking with a kerbal i have to orient on the stars to find the way because setting my craft as target seems to do nothing? - i cant fly near the Kerbal since this would mean 2 stranded Kerbals (barely enough fuel - i hope) - walking normally takes forever

dedicated optimization patch
SpaceHole replied to chuckbillrow's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yeah i agree with that but from my point of view things that will give the biggest boost: 1) 64 bit 2) Multi-Core-Processing 3) a system that wont load every single part into memory that isnt even used 1 and 2 seem to be rather hard and require the Unity-Developers? I am not sure if 3 is even possible with the engine used? 4) optimized textures etc. 5) modders also trying to keep their mods optimized -
dedicated optimization patch
SpaceHole replied to chuckbillrow's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Struts increase weight and drag and depending on what you want to build they maybe even hinder you from doing so. Still i dont get how this is a solution - switching of parts of the main-game-mechanics for some parts is not a solution its a bad workaround. -
dedicated optimization patch
SpaceHole replied to chuckbillrow's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Still you can send up things that would have never survived a launch or crashed your rocket so its pretty much like cheating. So by using it the only difficulcy is the weight. Which reduces difficulcy greatly. -
dedicated optimization patch
SpaceHole replied to chuckbillrow's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Maybe you should read more about it. It gives you better performance because it completly disables physics for stuff inside it. Which is not a good resolution its just a cheap FPS gain and probably breaks the game since you can send anything into space within this sphere. -
Finally my first (living) Kerbal on the Mun. It was pretty hard since my gem had "hick-ups" while skipping time so i crashed into the mun without even knowing since time-warp just stuck and skiped before the mun ... Anyhow now i got the Alarm-Timer-Mod. (i dont use Mechjeb) Only problem now is that it was my first real landing and i used way too much fuel landing which lead to Bobster Kerman stranding on the moon. Also i probably should have looked who the pilot was before starting the flight ... : (i should have sent Lenbro Kerman ..)

A BIG request for all modders - Texture Size
SpaceHole replied to SpaceHole's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
1. Why would it do that? 2. Isnt that actually slowing down the game - why not just have uncompressed Bitmaps in the Gamefolder then? -
Multiplayer (what else?)
SpaceHole replied to pyro42's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
How do you control a craft together? There isnt remotely enough to do for both. And setting nodes sounds kind of boring. Not to mention that you dont do that that often. Also while setting nodes the other player has nothing to do and needs to be on the lowest time-warp. I still dont see the difference between what you propose and 1 person playing streaming while skyping with 5 others. I simply dont see the point also Telemachus is interresting but the its more roleplay than actually needed gameplay. Not to mention that you dont need "real multiplayer" to do it. Sorry but i just dont see the point of this, it would be very much work not to mention maybe not even possible to implement those things. Just to have a second player wait 20 minutes - plant one node and wait again? Also most things can be done via skype-calls combined with the mod you linked - i dont see the reason why the other player should even be in the game? From my point of view the only potentially interresting things would be planetary operations in a heavily modded version where there is actually stuff to do with team-work like the nasa game (i forgot the name). "Moon-Base" Still it would be kind of odd since this is not the main focus of the game - yet it would be nice - at least i agree on that.
