  1. It seems you have missed 2 points "Early Access Game" - Early Access to a "Game". Also contracts like this with consumers will most likely be interpreted in the consumers interrest. Also marketing will actually work against the developers - especially those things said on the site about planned features etc. I still dont understand what you want? "by ordering now you get the game in its current state and all future updates" thats pretty logical considering its a alpha that will be patched i dont see how this proofs your point. Also as others pointed out EULAS that are not refered to when you buy the game - like in this case on steam - will not become part of the contract. Not to mention that there are quite a few limitations to what EULAs etc. can do. The funny part is i really dont understand what you want from me - i am talking in a general sense and about fictive scenarios - but it seems as if you assume that i dislike the game - which is odd. It seems as if you are desperately trying to attack me because you assume i dislike the game. Which is pretty much the opposite direction of the the problem. There are people that will try to harass developers and there will be extreme-fans that will actually try to attack anyone who dislikes the game. (you seem to be one of them (but one of those who are pretty moderate - dont get me wrong here (you are alomst at normal level ))
  2. I have to admit i dont really care about the Carreermode at all. It seems rather pointless in a game like KSP why limit yourself so much. Arent missions more than enough? But in the end i dont care there probably are people who are looking forward to this - is there any poll on this forum? What bothers me! Anything within the game is loaded all the time at start - so will this new mode drastically increase loading time and take away space for mods for people that will never use this mode? Would it be possible to make Carreer mode optional when starting the game to reduce the loading time and ram-usage - or will it be pretty small anyhow?
  3. I think i will do as the posters above yet i also have found out some interresting workarounds: (yet basic - but i didnt think that textures actually had the biggest impact on memory-usage) - set resolution in settings to half resolution (graphics will get very slightly worse (especially when you use planet retexturing mod)) while the game will be way less memory-hungry - try to make textures of mods smaller (some have way to big textures) I havent even done the texture resizing but am already able to play all mods i want now and to be honest i hardly see the difference since planet and skybox-textures are modded: Mods i use now: - Universe replacer - KAS - Remote Tech - KW-Rocketry - B9 Aerospace - KSPX - Nova Punch 2 - H.O.M.E -Kosmos_SSPP - MagicSmokeIndustries and the great thing is i am not remotely close to the limit now. I can only recommend anybody to use half-res combined with universe-replacer. And if you still run out of memory just remove parts.
  4. Well there is the Space-Mirror-Memorial The graveyard was just an idea since it would probably have an interresting effect having a graveyard next to your mission control growing bigger each day.
  5. That the game is not 64 bit yet and that many modders make great mods but sadly seem to forget about optimizing simple things like texture size. Alos one big issue everyone seems to conceal. Every day brave Kerbalnauts loose their life due to tragic accidents (or inkerbal tests) and they dont even have a memorial. I hereby demand a Kerbal Hero-Memorial. (or at least a Graveyard next to the KSP-Buildings)
  6. I have bought the game some time ago and really enjoy the game a lot yet one thing is getting really annoying - the 32bit limit and the RAM bloat. After some research i think the main problem are textures and modders. I looked into many mods and textures seem to be way to big and could be made a lot smoller mostly even without actually loosing visual quality. Therefore i would ask of modders to look into texture-size more maybe even release their mod with a "low-res" texture pack. I know this is a lot to ask but i think it would be a great thing for everyone: - less download-size for the spaceport - game will run more stabile - people can actually use way more mods - modders will get a bigger audience I thought about editing mods myself but it is actually rather complicated since modders seem to save their textures in different formats not to mention that it is way too much work for everyone to do it by themsleves and its not actually possible to release a low-res or optimized texture version of the mod for obvious reasons.
  7. Terms of service are a nice thing but wont necessarily work out the way you think. First Problem: - Marketing of the game - you simply cant promie features on the one hand and exclude them on the other hand - Terms of service - are limited by consumer law in most countries - Terms of service - probably wont be a part of the contract in the case of KSP at least on steam i have no idea how buying works on their site (at least in most countries i know since the terms of contract have to be at least hinted when you buy the game - in the case of KSP there is no indicator for those limitations at all at Steam) Also yes there are risks involved but nott hings like this: "Squad is not under any obligation to release any updates, expansions or titles at any time. Each release may very well be the last one." If they would do that they would get sued pretty easily or people could probably just demand their money back. Most of the time law will protect the consumers - for a good reason. Also i dont understand your point of view - if you pay for something you also aquire certain rights - why would you opose this pretty usefull and essencial idea? Just think about warranties for example. Just as an example for your world-view: Developer A creates a game - releases it in an alpha stage - sells it like KSP - decides that hes borded and got enough money stops developing and leaves a buggy game behind while still having made lots of money. Would this be a result you agree with?
  8. To be honest - none. Or just a very few to demonstrate basics. I think its way more fun to be able to come up with designs yourself and learn with trial and error. Also there is no reason for stock-crafts in the game in the first place since it just takes a way a rather big part of the gameplay. If one still needs some special ship no one is hindering people from downloading them from spaceport. I havent used any stock-craft yet - not even watched them since i want to explore things myself. Not to mention that it will probably influence design decisions.
  9. You cant proof your point by making things up. Might you read the Steam-Description. Also he guaranteed you something - the final car. There are lots of posts by developers that point out features they want to add to the game and where they want to go. Which is what people pay for - the idea they believe in. So with this reasoning anythign is okay as long as the other party either doesnt know better or is easy to please? Im sorry to have to break it to you but law heavly regulates what will be part of a contract. Many people seem to take this way to lightly which is why it is only a matter of time for the first big problems with things like crowd-sourcing etc.
  10. I use: Universe Replacer KAS-Mod (Kerbal Attachment System) KW-Rocketry B9 Aerospace-Pack KSPX Parts NovaPunch2 Kosmos SSPP ENB Is this considered a lot? KSP now uses almost 3.6 GB of ram.
  11. Woudl be nice i was thinking about using the skybox you talk about aswell but the download is rather big and i wasnt sure how great it will look. Which resolution of the skybox did you use?
  12. Since i havent found a thread bout this yet: It would be nice if people could share their MOD-Combinations - especially those that have great synergies and are within the "wont make the game crash" limit. I am myself pretty interrested in mods that give players lots of parts and make it possible to create bases in the orbit and on planets/moons. What would be helpfull: Maybe people could post which mods they use - how well they do when it comes to not crashing the game and what the aim of their chose mods is etc. Also how do you use mods? I was thinking about setting up different mod combinations for different gameplay-styles until the game supports 64bit like ModPack A (Helicopters, Planes etc. anything that stays on the planet) ModPack B (Orbital Bases and Rockets etc.) Anyone tried that - do you have to use different savegames or is it possible to use one and switch without breaking things? At the moment i use: Universe Replacer KAS-Mod (Kerbal Attachment System) KW-Rocketry B9 Aerospace-Pack KSPX Parts NovaPunch2 Kosmos SSPP ENB How well does it work: Barely crashes rather often sadly Mods i would be interrested in using: RemoteTech FirespitterPre H.O.M.E Magic-SmokeIndustries
  13. I dont see the problem? He can start making mods and simply us a internet-username. How should anyone threaten him when he wont reveal his personal data? Also as i said before - threatening someone over the internet is the same as doing so in "real live" - go to the police - then to a lawyer not ot mention that your story sounds lke some odd 12year old threatened him. I also did create mods for big games some time ago. Got a lot of emails from various people. Some people liked my mod - dome didnt. I released it under a username i created for this occasion. Never had any problems. I actually only communicated with "my playerbase" in the forums where i released the mod. Anyhow i know it shouldnt be this way and people should be way more civilized yet you can actually stop most of the people by not giving them ways to actually engage you. If they know neither your real name nor have any way of contacting you besides a internet-forum chances are they wont do much.
  14. Which is why i and many people that i know stopped going to the cinema - since it has become ridiculously expensive - combined with a decline in equipment. (IMAX 3D almost costs 15 Euros for one ticket where i live ...) Still i wanted to post to the poster above still the argument is the same. Trying to measure the value of things soley due to the time spent playing it is not a good way to generate a price. How much money is a paperweight worth - u can use it a lifetime and even inherit it to the next generations? How much money is World of Warcraft worth - considering the ammount of hours some people play this game? Even if the game might is worth it - fact is everyone paid for the full game - beforehand. Which is why its called "Early Acceess Game" - so you paid for the full game and early access to the game in heavy development.
  15. Well i am "rather" patient Yet after playing for a while at least one feature is very important for various reasons: 64bit Support The thing is i can change the game and make it better by using mods (which are pretty well integrated by the way) but the biggest problem right now is that there are a lot of great mods that have great synergies yet it is not possible to use them since the game will crash when memory usge is too high. Since there seems to be a DEV in this thread: I already read about a 64bit version for Linux with a few issues - are you already working on a 64bit windows version of the game? - is it that hard to implement? - it hopefully is a short term goal - not long term? On Mod-Ram-Usage: - would there may be a way to stop unused components of mods from flooding RAM? - at least from my point of view it seems as if mods will "enlarge" the game no matter if they are actually used or not? - how about trying to integrate something like the mod-manager and integrating a warning that will warn users when too many mods are used? Well sorry for beeing a bit harsh here but lately the DLC madness (horse-armor) etc. made me a bit upset since in the long run everyone will loose (for example - 1 DLC in one game may be cheap - but what if at some point you have to buy multiple DLC for multiple games - it adds up pretty quickly).
  16. Yeah i also like the clouds the problem is they are rather low res and will show up rather late - it would be nice to get them with a higher resolution and have them fade in sooner? (maybe someone knows a mod that does that) Also is there a reason why there is no specific graphical-enhancement section in the spaceport? It is rather odd to look for textures on reddit and be relinked to a thread with a few hundred posts.
  17. Some people seem to not value money anymore it seems? Since when are 22 Euros a small amount of money? Especialyl in comparison to what AAA-Title devlelopment costs in relation with their release-price? Also no we are definitly not alpha-testers. Since alpha-testers are people that dont pay for a product and work for free. We on the other hand paid for a game in production and in a bigger bigture for the game-idea that has been presented and promised us consumers. It will probably take some time but i didnt pay for an alpha i paid for a full product in the future in advance. But i guess this just shows the young community on this board. Once you have to actually earn money yourself you will hopefully value it more. So if a car-salesman sells you a car (which most of the time will have to be built and not exist when you pay for it) is not obliged to deliver you the working car you paid for later on?
  18. Since i havent found a dedicated thread yet and due to the fact that it is rather hard to find such modifications i decided to start this thread: It would be nice if people that enjoy enhancing the graphics of the game exchange knowledge and tips i will start by uploading some screenshots and things i found: Todo: - post what you used (+links if possible) - how you used it - Screenshots Things i used: ENB Mod (http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/enb/) + edited the config since i didnt like the extreme effects Universe Replacer (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/44135-0-21-x-Universe-Replacer-v3-2) + Rareden Skybox (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/44135-0-21-x-Universe-Replacer-v3-2?p=602535&viewfull=1#post602535) + Mushroomman Cloud Pack (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/44135-0-21-x-Universe-Replacer/page39?p=577914#post577914)
  19. Its not that hard to conceal your idenity within a company. Most of the time you will act in the name of a company and not with your own name not to mention that by "conceal" i mean in public. Even if you use your real name for contracts etc. its not like the info will get out that easily. As a rather good example take a look at "Daft Punk". Or almost any bigger firm - you will probably find names of their public-speakers yet most other names will not be shown. And what is most important you dont have to link real names to pseudonyms you use to provide infos - updates etc. so when somebody does not like something he actually wont have a single target he can fixate on. Btw. i think it is only a matter of time until these things will get way worse - just wait for the first big crowd-funding projects failing - or even worse get abused by criminals Also the Polygon-Article-Harassment-Guide is actually pretty good.
  20. Why is this even news? Gaming has gone mainstream - this has advantages and disadvantages - one of them is that you can sell to more potential consumers yet you also have to deal with way more of them and potentially more that will be "odd". I understand that those threats are to be taken seriously yet one also has to realize that sadly the internet has become a "playground" for small kids doing stuff kids do online - which is a big problem and something parents should be more aware of. Also from my point of view the main reason why this developer-consumer interaction becomes so emotional is also sometimes the fault of devleopers. Especially with developers abusing crowd-sourcing and community interaction. You cant integrate fans directly into your funding by getting their money for a "promise" and not get a backlash when things dont work out. I think this is one of the biggest problems right now. People "invest" in "promises" - once those promises are not fulfilled people will get emotional. Also what i dont understand - why wont developers just act with their fans with aliases? Yet dont get me wrong - death-threats etc. are still messed up. On the other hand i dont consider things like a consumer-uproar because of lies harassment (like with the new Alien Colonial Marines game). Yet it is harassment when it concentrates on specific persons that probably are not to blame. Also as sad as this is - once you decide to become a public-figure you will have to deal with new problems. - or conceal your identity from the very start. Yet the no pentalty thing is stupid - there is no difference between a death-threat online and a death-threat offline. Both will be purued and i am pretty sure that 90% of ppl doing such things are not hiding their identity. Not to mention that most of them will probably be rather young ... And btw. in most countries police cant legaly refuse to persecute such things for obvious reasons.
  21. I tihnk thats a pretty strange way of thinking. I like things because they have features that benefit my gaming-interrests for a reasonable price by a reasonable company. I dont like XY just because its name is XY. If MS would go back to the old days where they actually cared more about what consumers actually want i would buy their console etc. if it was better then the other consoles and if i even wanted one. (from my point of view Bill Gates was way more likeable and also seemed to have a different approach in terms of what he actually wanted to produced) And this is why gaming sucks more each day. Why are people so willing to pay for anything? Those mods are for free on the PC why would you pay for them? Also you would pay as much money for one single DLC as you paid for the whole game? Pay for good and big Addons like everyone else did but dont encourage companies to rip everyone off. Just as an example: Horse Armor - 2.50 Dollars Creation Time - 1 intern probably wasted a few hours for it maybe the models were even stock - who knows So people payed 5% of the price of a game that was developed for years for something that was made probably within 5 minutes. Now lets say 100.000 people buy this DLC - 250.000- Dollars for 2 hours of work at most - that is insane ... They would never do that it makes no sense. Why get competitors in your exclusive market?
  22. In theory yes. The problem is in the real wolrd it will probably end up like those other bad examples: - sales on consoles skyrocket - focus will be on the console version - controls etc. will be adapted - i doubt that they will make their team way bigger all of a sudden - and just some seconds later PC will just be an afterthought with bad ports and controls - casuals will complain about mechanics and demand auto-pilots etc. - also history tells us that too way much money makes people lazy (Notch ...) or corrupts them Also to be honest KSP is not a good idea as it is now for consoles. Sure there are some hardcore-gamers on consoles yet most of the players are casuals. The problem is that KSPs controls will probably work yet building will be rather annoying without a mouse and what is most important the game-mechanics like orbiting, docking etc. are way too complex for casuals. At least thats what i think. Just look at Mincecraft - from my point of view it got so big becaus it pretty much does what lego does. You can build whatever you want, with the most simple interface and game-mechancs. I doubt one can reduce KSP to such a level without actually destroying the game KSPs creators want to make.
  23. The second-hand shop pays for the employees, the rent and the game they buy. But most important prices can drop fast drastically so its rather dangerous to have games in stock. If you would sell and resell almost new cars you could also make a lot of money. If you want to talk about "fairness" you probably should start with the relationship between Publishers and Developers. Or "Artists" and their labels/publishers or whatever in general. What do you mean by selling it multiple times? I can obviously only sell it once and there are many objects that will do what you just described - as an example apartments. I never said all of this wasnt odd but its not something that only exists in gaming. What do you mean by your last posting about sony? Some guy tried to start a console war - it failed - i somehow still tried to explain my views on the "new MS" and now we somehow ended up talking about digital-distribuation and second hand sales Also lets be honest here the only thing why second hand sales are such a big deal right now is because the industry missed an opportunity - again. Someone else picked up the idea and now they are kind of annoyed that someone else is also making money. I will never get gaming industrie anyhow - they all cry about how bad sales are - yet they most of the time have a higher marketing than development budget and end up publishing inferior products. Just look at COD i dont actually want to know how much money they made with it and the latest DLC yet they still barely invest more than other AAA publishers in their next game yet marketing has gone trough the roof ... (This oviously doesnt apply to small developers - its pretty much like in the music business there are few artists that have way to much money while most others can barely live from their income)
  24. Thats not actually a problem. I havent used them myself yet but from what i heard most modern credit-card-companies offer "pre-paid-creditcards".
  25. Besides the fact that Option was would probably have quite some limitations since otherwise publishers would go crazy there are to other problems: 1) Space on your console is limited - games are rather big i wonder how many games can be on your console at any given time (+ not to mention space used by the system etc.) 2) there is no reason whatsoever why this wouldnt be possible now - they could have stlill made this and simply make those games only playable while both systems are online 3) now your going all out with download and cloud yet all of a sudden downloading a demo and a game is a problem? So what people want ownership of things they bought. Seems rather reasonable to me yet you still cant explain why we cant have both systems? Also it is very reasonable to want both systems from a company like MS with others in the background like EA known for shuttong down online-services of games - BRB have fun playing your old EA-Games online ... (yeah i would totally trust them) Just imagine playing on your SNES these days now what would happen if your SNES was a Always-Online-Cloud console - yeah it would be garbage by now. The second hand shop argument is stupid. Pretty much every other market works like this and there is no difference. One could argue that every game is the same and wont loose quality over time. Which is wrong since games do loose in value - a lot. So since you are anti-second-hand - would you mind if car-producers would decide that from now on your car can only be used by one person - the one who bought it and never be resold? The Developer-Argument is also no argument you might wanna read about how Publishers work. Most of the money from sales will benefit the retail and the publisher - not the developer. (But yes i agree that some of those bigger second hand shops are pretty much ripping of their customers) Also second hand sales of software are good for sales since many sell old games - and buy new games with the money they got for the old one. If i build a desk out of stainless steel and sell it to you - should i get money when you resell it? - should i get money when the next person resells it? should you then get money too? Why are people pretending that this is so much different? It is probly even better for the producer - he can make infinite copies for free and sell them, the guy producing talbes has to actually pay for the production and materials of each table. As i said before digital goods may wont just break apart but they will loose value as well - and at some point probably be hardly or not playable at all.
