  1. Thanks for the suggestions, I have used googlesketchup before would that do to start with.
  2. I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this but does anyone know of a tutorial (preferably a video series) that gives step by step instructions on how to make a simple part. I have tried to look but either they only cover one part of making a part or look far too complected. I can just about grasp how to make a model (but find it difficult) but I don't know were to go from there. Thanks for any help.
  3. My plane was not an SSTO but I used to use this plane for all of my Mun cargo runs. It lands horizontally so it can deploy cargo. There was only one slight design flaw: that was it could not land back on Kerbin as it have a vertical speed of 30m/s, but it had a escape system. This is the only picture I could find with good lighting.
  4. Whenever I go on planetary missions to planets like Duna I always take about 4 hitchhiker storage containers so that I feel my Kerbal's have space to live in. My idea is that before the mission you can select that you would like the hitchhiker container to be, Living quarters, meaning this is where all the Kerbal's can sit and talk to eachother Sleeping quarters: this would be were the Kerbal's sleep Storage unit: this would be were food and water would be stored and once used up could be converted into one of the other options Waste disposal: this could be were wast is disposed I would expect that these options would only be added in the far future and only if lifesuport was implemented. I think it would add an interesting new game mechanic that could make mission planning more important. If they were not reconfigerable new parts could be added. Thanks Squad for the great game.
  5. I lander broke on Duna. I had designed my lander but had not realized that it could not land on any terrain that was not completely flat, so I landed and then fell over. Luckily I quicksaved and managed to land on Duna without falling over.
  6. I believe that it is from his own parts pack: Home grown rocket parts but from the development thread. The other mod is Lack Luster Labs SXT pack.
  7. You were right, I let it load for a few minutes or so and it worked so it turned out I was being impatient.
  8. When I load up KSP it goes through the screen when it loads up all the files and then comes to a black screen with a loading sign. This loading sign then moves a little bit and stop's. I then need to press control, alt and delete and it says KSP is not responding, I then press end now and the computer then says: KSP.exe is not responding and that windows is looking for a solution to the problem. The computer then closes KSP. Is there any way to stop this, I already use the aggressive version of active texture management and have a few mods installed. I hope you can help as I can no longer play the game. Thanks.
  9. The SXT pack is great particularly the new update but there is one problem, the pack will not load if with the radial cockpit, but once you delete it it loads correctly. Its not urgent but when you get a chance could you please look into it.
  10. I believe that in reality if the USSR had won the race to the moon it would have been a huge embarrassment to the USA but the USSR would still have collapsed and would not exist today. That is just my opinion but the famous science fiction writer Arthur C Clarke in the 2001: A Space Odyssey series imagines a world were the USSR still exists (and I think had won the race to the moon, but I can't remember) which gives a very interesting view on your question.
  11. I completed my first non mechjeb space station. I believe I have finally got the hang of docking with other objects. The station has a solar array and all three types of docking port as well as a small fuel reserve. My next mission will be to rendezvous with an asteroid.
  12. Thanks for all the responses. I am pleased other people think this is a good idea. It would be good if it did it for other items as well.
  13. Sorry I got confused about the adapter and did not enplane it very well. Here is a mock up spacecraft to enplane my view. As you can see there is a noticeable gap in the spacecraft. You are right that if this was implemented mass would have to increase with size.
  14. An adapter makes the engine look better but if you then put a decoupler below the engine then an adapter below this there is a gap in the spacecraft so the problem is still there. Sorry I got confused about the adapter and did not enplane it very well. Here is a mock up spacecraft to enplane my view. Thanks for the responses and people suggesting ways around the problem. I am pleased people think this is a good idea.
  15. I know you can use a bigger engine size but when I build a Mun lander the LV-909 Liquid Fuel Engine is often too big and the rockomax 48-7S has the perfect size and thrust. I suppose that the different sized decoupler could alter the size of engine shroud. SO if you put a rockomax 48-7S under a 1.25m tank but you place a 0.625m decoupler under the engine it could make a 0.625m shroud that way you can either have a place to put stuff around the engine or have a shroud that fits the tank.
  16. When you place a decoupler below an engine an engine shroud that is the same size as the engine will appear but this only works if the engine and fuel tank are the same width. If the fuel tank is larger than the engine it results in a shroud that is too small which makes the shroud look very odd in the ship. My suggestion is when you place a small engine such as the rockomax 48-7S under a larger fuel tank the engine shroud should be the same width as the fuel tank. I think this would make rockets look much better. I hope that one day this will be implemented. Thanks for listening to my suggestion.
  17. Thanks for the quick reply. I though that would be the case but I wanted to check.
  18. Many science fiction books and films have spacecraft will a centrifuge to generate artificial gravity. My question is would a single centrifuge produce a force on the ship and if there is a force would a counter rotating centrifuge solve this problem. Hope you can help as I find centrifuges on spacecraft an interesting prospect.
  19. I finally finished construction on my as yet unnamed first manned Duna mission. It has 2 lander's, a rover and a crew return vehicle. I looks like it has enough fuel for the journey. (probably) I hope you like it.
  20. Hi this is the first challenge I have posted on this forum so if I have made a mistake please tell me. Now to the challenge, the challenge is to land a non VTOL vehicle on top of one of the KSC buildings. You will get points awarded based on which building you land on: 10, points for landing on the SPH 15, points for landing on the VAB 20, points for landing of the Mission control building and astronaut complex. 25, points for landing on the bridge along its length 35, points for landing of the bridge along its width 50, points for landing on the Control or water tower. You are allowed to use any engines so long as you are not using VTOL engines. You are allowed to use any mod parts as long as they are not overpowered, I would recommend using firespitter parts as the propellers have a reverse thrust option. Also parachutes are not allowed. IF people want to use FAR I will provide a separate leaderboard. This is my entry. which means I get 15 points. You must post a picture or video for verification. Also I will award 10 points for a unique and cleaver design.
  21. Glad to see other people would appreciate this and yes I have found one workaround which is using the electric propeller from the KAX pack as the main form of propulsion which means I can use the throttle to control my speed, I decided to try this just after I posted my suggestion and tried my journey again to the mountains (my previous rover was destroyed)
  22. Today I decided to drive to the mountains near KSC in a rover and after about 5 minutes my finger was tired of pressing the 'I' key to go forwards so I was wondering if it could be possible for the throttle that is usually used to control rockets to control the forward movement of a rover. In my opinion it would make using a rover much more interesting and easier to use. Also the throttle could help to choose how fast your rover could go which would make them easier to use on low gravity moons. I don't know if this would be possible to implement but in my opinion it would make rover much better. You could also use the standard controls for rovers and as soon as you press the brake button or key the throttle would stop and the breaks could come on just like a formula 1 cars DRS system is closed as soon as the brakes are pressed.
  23. I went to Minmus today for about the 5th time but this time I decided to make assemble a rover using KAS. So I started to build the rover using a KAS box as a chassis and cubic struts to attach the wheels to. However after it was almost finished and time to put the wheels on to my horror I could only find 2 wheels! I had went all the way to Minmus only to find I had a space bicycle. I tried to make the "rover" work but could not, so I decided to check the KAS boxes again and found the other two wheels, oops.
  24. If you are happy to use mods I believe LLL SXT has a 3.75m habitat that is different to the Hitchhiker cabin.
