Waiting for angles and transfers.
merlinux replied to Spyritdragon's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It doesn't tell you phase angles but it allows you to warp until the right phase angle. For planets on eccentric and inclined orbits I use both the alexmoon window planner and kerbal alarm clock (just to warp till a certain date) as it gives maximum efficiency. And regarding when launch windows open or close, if you look at the alexmoon website (and the chart it computes when you enter data) once again you will realize you can always get somewhere by spending way too much delta v So I would say they open or close at the boundaries of the 'blue sectors' you get from the computed chart. @ Kialar: I get in the mood often too when playing this game, especially when I have a few drinks -

How is that relevant to the OP inquiry? -
Is there a way to show total dv?
merlinux replied to Kasuha's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
This is actually one of the best tip Ive read in a while I was wondering the same myself. -
Waiting for angles and transfers.

You might also like kerbal alrm clock, you can bind an alarm to a ship and although you still have to switch to a flag or a ship on land while warping at full speed, you wont need a pen and paper and you will be switched back to the ship without going back to the tracking station -

Hey there 1- It reallly depends where you are going to! Some planets line up more often. And you have no choice but to wait if you really want to go there unless you'd rather orbit the sun 2 - Sometimes when I have nothing to do, yes I put everything else in hold while I wrap. But sometimes I just keep doing other things in between. 'kerbal alarm clock' is what I use which let you know when a window has opened. It is very very useful when you want to do other things instead of warping silly amounts of time... -
Can't use a ladder properly
merlinux replied to technion's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Excuse me from putting my grain of salt but if you are thinking of redesigning you might as well try using a mix of jets engines and rocket engines for laythe. It is very efficient. Ill try and get a pic in my screenshot collection to show you EDIT found it Not the best image but it has 4 jet engines and 2 lv 909. Fully reusable Oh and this is even overkill for laythe, this lander achieve kerbin orbit without trouble EDIT 2: You cant see it in the pic but it has 2 drogue chutes (located on top of the 909 stacks) and a few radial chutes. -
To me it is like the opposite. I was eager to finish the tech tree so I could do things heh heh.

Pretty cool just missing a cloud of debris to look better. But who am I to criticize, I am rubbish at editing videos.

Phase angle calculation.
merlinux replied to Grump99's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
In addition to the site Johnno gave you which is excellent and especially for planet on excentric/inclined orbit as you can get the optimal launch dates, you might like kerbal alarm clock, which can either gives you launch windows (works great for planets on the ecliptic) or let you to warp till a certain date you get from the launch window planner website. It works for .22 on career mode. -
Question about future Tech Tree development
merlinux replied to Delta_6's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I believe due to the nature of this game being in alpha you are likely not to be playing on the same career save in a few versions. I do not believe even the devs would be able to answer your question right now. -
Oh well in that case I agree that collision every 90 min is not possible. But I havent seen the movie yet and had no idea the debris kept coming on regular occasions. Thanks for the spoiler

Orbits can cross other orbits. There are both prograde and retrograde orbits too. So high speed collision do/can happen. Check up wikipedia on kessler bombs. And from memory there was a collision between 2 satellites a few years ago at incredibly high velocities and I think the shuttle had to change orbit to avoid collision with the massive cloud of debris. It is a real problem. EDIT: after checking the collision I was thinking about was in 2009 and it didnt cause any threats to either the ISS and the shuttle . However a chinese satellite was deemed to be in threat of being destroyed by the debris. Debris have since decayed.

Restoring a vanished fuel line in flight
merlinux replied to Sparker's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you want you can also 'replace' the craft with a functionning one by editing the persistent file of your save -
Restoring a vanished fuel line in flight
merlinux replied to Sparker's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
With kas you can attach parts in flight. Not sure if it will work with fuel lines as they have 2 attach points. -
How to launch from a moving plane?
merlinux replied to Mmmmyum's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It works differently I believe when you are moving IN the atmosphere. anything past 2.5km is deleted... -
You can recharge them when you thrust certain engines. The LV909 for example can not recharge batteries. Further up in the tech tree you will get solar cells which you will be able to use to recharge. As of now you just have to be careful not to drain out of power completely. Do some simple missions around the kerbin system until you get the solar panels And just stick them to your craft to use them. It is used by the SAS/torque included in pods and also to transfer data from experiments (which I do not recommend until you get solar panels!)

Dres. Dres. What's with Dres.
merlinux replied to CrazedGunman502's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I don't mind Dres. It is a rather challenging place to go, although not as much eeloo or moho. I was satisfied the first time I landed and returned from Dres. And it isn't that boring, try and explore the deep canyon! it is fun! Eeloo is a lot more boring than Dres IMHO -
While in your reasoning you may hold some truth I do not agree that sending unmanned probes is an "impediment to progress", quite the contrary. And you are not obliged to send a Kerbal where a probe has been... Just because I haven't got a soil sample of Tylo of Eve surface doesn't mean I absolutely need to... There are so many science available in the whole kerbol system, you would have maxxed out the tree way before that.... In my gameplay I send heaps of probes/rovers in addition to my manned program. Which gets me a lot more science I believe. Also when I send kerbals I do not always do EVA reports while in space cause I find it annoying. For the Mun I agree kerballed missions are more effective, but probes have a use for interplanetary... EDIT: I also just thought of something that negate your reasoning. As you progress in the tech tree you unlock several extra experiments, especially the accelerometer and the gravioli which gets you insane amount of science. Those are far up in the tree. Does that mean you will redo every mission you have done before??? Or just move on and keep exploring new things and grab science elsewhere?

About the Conic patch 0, which is awesome btw, I just wanted to add my tip, which might seem obvious to some but took me a very long time to realize. Use tab to focus on your target body before you are in its SOI and backspace to reset. And yeah it works for other conic patch but it is a must here.

Well reading that review from annandtech I can try and answer your question It says The Iris pro is on par with the GT650M. I am using a GT630M which is a lot less powerful than the 650M. I play KSP quite smoothly on my laptop at res of 1366x768 with settings almost to max. my CPU is a i7 3610 with 8gb of ram. CPU and ram are a must for this game. Not sure what you will get in at HD res though. EDIT: And I forgot to say, no matter your graphic card, the game will slow down when you abuse it

About being afraid of doing missions on the Mun and having nothing else to do afterwards trust me it wont be true. There is always something to do in this game. Always a goal to achieve. And there is a lot more science points to be grabbed in this game than what is needed to finish the tech tree. So dont be afraid. The fact that only a few parts are available at first limit your choice of destination, so get the points where you can get them. And you havent depleted all the science points from high mun orbit as you havent unlocked all the science instruments... About transmitting, it is very very useful as of now, especially when you start going interplanetarry. You can get thousands of science points by repeating the same experience. About the things that seem so simple and are so high up, I cant really answer you as I am no developper. But you can do without until you unlock them

I have had kerbals and ships 'fall' through maps before. But I have always used F9 to correct those problems...

Firing excess crew members?
merlinux replied to Daishi's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I believe there must be a way to get rid of kerbals from your roster, I think in the persistent file. However I have never bothered to change anything in that file and I cant really help you more.
