The Kerbal Solar System -- In Blender! [VERY WIP]
Starwhip replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP Fan Works
Moho completed. The album here is not updating for some reason. :/ -
The Objective: Create every planet and moon in the KSP solar system in Blender3D, mainly with procedural noise-based texture generation. Planets like Kerbin and Laythe will be done with textures, since they have more recognizable terrain. I'm going to try one planet per day, so far I've been able to do it. I'll keep this album updated as I go. Status: Sol - To Do Moho - Done! (Download .blend file) Eve - Done! --Gilly - To Do Kerbin - Done! --Mun - To Do --Minmus - To Do Duna - Done! (Download .blend file) --Ike - Done! Dres - To Do, but it doesn't exist. Jool - To Do --Laythe - To Do --Pol - To Do --Bop - To Do --Tylo - To Do --Vall - To Do Eeloo - To Do

Cool! I'll have to take a look at that when I can. Right now I'm doing a render myself, and it's taking so much processing power that I have to type excruciatingly slowly to get all the letters. IId'titlooks ike ti. (If I don't it looks like this)
-
These are nice! Care to share how you set them up? (You don't have to if you don't want to)
-
That was a good question, I wasn't sure myself. It looks like you can delete the quote as any other character. (Hit backspace with the cursor immediately below it. You might need to do it a few times.) Welcome aboard!

I think I will make one. I'm also going to upload the .blend file with all of the planet types I've done and will do. -

I am using Blender 3D. This is Duna's surface material setup. If it doesn't make much sense, don't worry, I find it hard to follow myself sometimes, and I created the setup! -

DUNA This procedural generation thing is really fun. -
Oh, I absolutely love them! Whooop whoooop! Procedural planets are awesome! Here's Duna. Made 100% within Blender (minus text). No external textures or editing.

I'm going to be playing this game. This evil, evil game. And am going to love it. On a more related note, I play Unturned, FTL, the Elder Scrolls franchise, TIS-100, Starmade, Minecraft, Space Engineers, Terra Tech, Warthunder, And a bit of World of Warships.

Nonononononononono it's too late to be getting into that now, nope, not going to look at them.... I hope. Maybe just one...

Maybe I can cover for you some. I've figured out how to do believable procedurally generated planetary bodies with Blender. Surface, atmosphere, and clouds. The following images aren't run through any external programs. Earthlike planet. (Low resolution test render) A moon or airless world. The setup I have is quite easy to adapt to any imaginable planet, be it covered in lava or frozen to the core. There are a few limitations, but in general it should work for everything at an acceptable level.

Living in Miami, I completely understand your situation. On a good day you might see Venus here. And of course there's usually a nice thick overcast blanket of clouds, blocking even the Moon. But a few times, my family and I have driven out to the Everglades, and stayed out there for a few hours just watching the sky. In the right spots, you can just barely make out the band of the galaxy, and the stars are so much brighter out there. Someday, I want to get way out in the ocean, away from all the city lights, just to see the night sky like it was.

@SpaceplaneAddict's BadS SSTO descends on Eve. Artist's Rendition. This craft may or may not be able to make it to Eve. Do not attempt to make it to Eve if you are not sure. If you attempt to make it to Eve with this and fail, you cannot sue. @DMSP, if you have a craft ready I can start on it. -
Well, from what I know, you might be able to destroy more than just a planet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relativistic_kill_vehicle Forgoing the Tyranny of the Rocket Equation, say we accelerated a one thousand kilogram object to approximately the speed of light. Say, 95%. Equation The result? 3.12x1020 Joules. That is equivalent to approximately 50 Gigatons of TNT. What if, in the spirit of xkcd, we tried more power? The Result Accelerating the object to nearly the speed of light yields an equally ridiculous amount of energy. 2.84x1060 Joules. The sixtieth. Equal to 6.79x1041 Gigatons of TNT. For some more perspective, here's a handy table. http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/usefultables.php According to it, the Big Bang was estimated to be around 3.0x1069 Joules. Which gets our number up to 0.0000001% or so of the Big Bang, with a single metric ton. Perhaps someone else might refine on this. I have not the slightest idea what all this energy would do, nor what fraction of it would be yielded in detonation, or through impact, or whatever an object going so incredibly fast does. Now, perhaps some more reasonable numbers. 1,000 metric tons at 0.7c 1,000,000 metric tons at 0.5c Neither of those come close to touching the massive power previously achieved, but they are a good perspective.

Starwhip's Renderfarm [Stock Craft Requests Open]
Starwhip replied to Starwhip's topic in KSP Fan Works
Whoops! I'll try to remember that. Might not change the filename though. Hmm, well, I should be able to do Eve. Reentry is tricky. I can probably do some research on the effects, and I know a hacky way to do it. -

This was scary for a second. Turns out it was Tantares. Removing it fixed the problem. Things can proceed as planned! Any ideas for a background scene, @SpaceplaneAddict? Or would you rather be surprised? EDIT: The texture and scaling crazies are completely normal, don't worry. -
