I would be interested to hear how other people have made it to Duna and back early in the game.

Top up last booster stage and use that for transfer burn. This usually means Skipper or Poodle. If I were to use Nerv, I'd pull AP to some decent height, cirularize, top up again and do transfer  burn from there. It may not be most efficient, but navigating tanker ships around Kerbin system is trival, while dealing with long burns in LKO is not.

Maybe you cleared old saves too vigorously? Steam repair should refetch them.

Most other tutorials out of game give too much information when I want to learn this game on my own.

This is not THAT kind of game. Unless you have a degree in orbital mechanics, get any information you can. Seriously.

  3. Well, I used to have KDE app for almost everything. K3B was king of burning, but I do not even have optical drive today. Kopete for best IM features - now dead of neglect. Amarok ruled the music until it bloated to bugged uselessness. KMail was absolutely best mail app I have ever used, now I have to use Thunderbird. Ugh :-( Konqueror was wonderfull handle to everything for which ther was KIO. Now unburried dead. So is KDM, kuickshow, basket… do I have to continue?

I am quite happy with Plasma, but can't honestly call it "KDE desktop" anymore.

I remember "Crysis" was advertised as having highly advanced graphics as its engine supported graphical techniques that were not yet available on current graphics cards.

Biggest thing about Crysis & co. was ability to render big terrain. Tech4 (engine behind Doom 3)  could only do small scenes, but with light effects way above anything I have ever seen. Which one is better? Engine powering Arma games have several incredibly advanced features that are simply lost on average Joe - is  sea waves simulation "better graphics"? It certainly add more  realistic feeling then another milion rendered polygons.

Artistic matter a lot too, Elder scroll Skyrim was released on the same engine as Oblivion…

Yes, Skyrim  have better graphics, but Oblivion looks better in my book. But if you wan to see some realy good TES, get Morrowind. "Graphics" is laughable, but art is astounding…

Whatever engine you fancy may be blown out of water tomorrow, while looks of Dwarf Fortress will never get old.

A really savvy Linux guy could make their own distro with everything they need already there, that's a bit beyond me though.

Savvy linux guy just install stuff on disk and does not waste time with several layers of legacy crap invoved with USB bootables. Seriously, this is about most complicated boot process one can have.

Anyway, is it really really necessary to use Mint? There are specialized distros for this.

Please dont be intimidated, what you've posted in the forums looks good, but if it was in the tracker it would be seen by more devs. :)

Hmm, that one looks like it should be looked into

Looks like new message is spawned whenever one or more contract conditions is triggered. So, landing on Mun triggered "Build new outpost that has antenna, docking port and can generate power", visiting space station triggers crew space conditions, just doing nothing trigges "maintain stability"…

Got a few mods, but none that should touch contracts.

There is a "Contract Parameter Complete" Info message that was added to the debug log to help with identifying contract issues if people still have that "lotsa funds" bug that some people found. Could this be what you saw?

Looks like it, but certainly not in debug log. These look like triggered by 10 second stability, but I've also noticed "contract finished" one for contract that is most certainly not finished. Also, it seems that only two surface base contracts trigger this. I don't have other base contracts, but some "plant flag" and "rescue" and those kept quiet. Both of those basebuilding  contracts are from 1.4.1.
