Hitchhiker Mobile Laboratory
possum replied to Radiokopf's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This would encourage base building. I like the idea. -
A quick summery of of science gathering if have found/ tested. This is not all inclusive due to some thing having not been discovered or fully tested at this time. 1. Crew reports: No loss when transmitted. Are biome dependent. Only one crew report per biome can be stored. 2. Biomes: Kerbin- Launch pad, coastal, desert, grassland, highland, water, polar/artic, atmospheric, LKO, HKO Mun- HMO, LMO, highland, not sure what the others are. Minmus- HMO, LMO, highland, possible lowland- have not tested. Kerbal and all other celestial bodies- high orbit and low orbit 3. EVA: EVA reports can be stored on the capsule, only one per biome. Have to enter or be in contact with the capsule, i.e. grab the capsule while still outside, to store it. Kerbals, even then hanging on to the capsule, can not transmit reports. EVA reports are transmitted at a 50% loss. Surface samples and be stored, on per biome. Reports from a Kerbal on Kerbin can be recovered by recovering while EVA. This can be used to recover two reports and samples from one biome by storing one report and sample then collecting a second. 4. Transmitting data: Multiple reports can be transmitted simultaneously with multiple antenna. Transmitting the same experiment multiple time until all science is gained from one biome yields the same amount of science points as returning experiments or samples multiple times. Clicking send data from the antenna will send all stored data. 5. Capsules/ probes: Yield science points if recovered. Points are dependent on the last body visited. Orbital and sub-orbital flight yield different points. Do not neglect sub-orbital flights. Only one crew report, EVA report, and sample can be stored per biome. 6. Experiments Old science parts yield science only one data log can be stored. the Goo canister can store only one report. Science Jr. can store only one report. Reports are biome dependent. Thermometer reports can not be logged in high orbits. Resetting wll dump current data and i will be lost. Hopefully this condensed list will help with your science gathering.

Question on experiment numbers
possum replied to Swoop's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I would like to store multiple reports. -
Capsules should have the ability to store science data from experiments. This way the experiment doesn't have to be returned or transmitted. This data can be stored at a reduced level of science points but still be more than transmitting. I also think that the amount of data that can be stored should be limited based on capsule size. The data can also be transferred from one craft to another making Apollo style landers the ability to return science data from the surface. It will also give stations functionality with data being returned in high quantities. I would much rather land a small crew pod than a large science ship. It just seems more realistic and adds more possibilities.

Exchanging pilots when and with docked cabins

If you do not want to transfer using EVA's try the crew manifest mod.http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/18-1-kerbal-crew-manifest/ -

I like pitching 5 deg's at about 250-500 meters. It is just something about dropping stages on the pad. -
Great Apollo video about the guidance computer and MIT
possum replied to John FX's topic in Science & Spaceflight
From the Earth to the Moon is one of my favorite series to watch, go to start watching it again if a few weeks. I'm seen The Right Stuff more times than I can count but don't recall seeing Space Race. I will have to check that one out. -

This is a very good video. I have been enjoying the whole "moon Machine" series. -

Kerbal Attribute Influence on Science

I like that idea. To expand on it science points could also be used to train Kerbals reducing their stupidity. -
Career mode isn't sounding very good.
possum replied to dlrk's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
KSP is the ultimate sandbox, even the career mode. The easy of which mods can be added allows the game to be molded into whatever you want it to be. If you want a sim make it a sim. The game being built more as a game makes it more appealing to a wider audience. If the career mode is not the way you want to play don't play it, go to the sandbox mode and give yourself your own restraints to how you want to play. Harvester said in an interview that the dev's are constantly trying to find a balance between fun and realism. They tend to lean more toward the fun side but KSP is so easy to mod it rest with the user to make the game what they want. -
Landed a rover as well. It is my first rover build so it does look kinda rough, but it works. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn206/thedrunkpossum/screenshot43.png' alt='screenshot43.png'>

what was the first thing you landed on (not in the kerbin system)
possum replied to duncan1297's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Ike. I strapped some extra boosters to my Mun lifter. -
First landing successful. Second landing success.
-
Too many distractions yesterday to land but both are in orbit around Ike ready to land.
-
The second attempt to Ike has launched. This time it is a little more ambitious, it is a dual launch and landing. Here is the second launch ready to go on the pad waiting for the launch window. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn206/thedrunkpossum/screenshot33.png' alt='screenshot33.png'> This is a rushed upgrade to the launch vehicle.

What do you want to see in .23
possum replied to jmosher65's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
IVA movements and science. It is the only next logical step. -
The mission to Ike was on a whim and I used what I already had available. The CSM is the workhorse of my program being used a both a CSM for landing missions, orbital construction, and up until recently was the only power source for my station. It was designed to handle well on its own as well as docked to some ungainly modules. For the construction role it serves where ECS is not always balanced the extra mono propellant is a necessity. The lander is my mk1 and could stand to be upgraded. With .22 being released in the near future the upgrade will wait until after release. For now it does the job, and on Mun, Ike and Minmus I can do multiple landing with a simple refuel from the CSM. They are not the best designs for simple landing missions but I can either spend time building and testing better designs or spend that time landing, that and I am working on a Duna lander.
-
It was underpowered. I made it to Duna but did not have fuel to do anything more than a distant flyby. After transferring the fuel from the lander i ditched it and started a return trajectory. Three corrections later I was headed for a water landing south east of the space center. I wish I took a picture of the reentry, it was a little steep at 16.3 G's. Good thing we don't have deadly reentry. I shall try again tomorrow.
-
So, since I don't have an atmospheric lander I am going to Ike. I missed the launch window by about a week. I launched anyway. I am now on a trajectory that will have me encounter Duna with a 44 Km periapsis. I already had a minor problem that will have any effect on the mission. A jettisoned fairing knocked a solar panel off. Here is a pic of Bob inspecting the damage. http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn206/thedrunkpossum/screenshot31.png' alt='screenshot31.png'> More updates will come.
