last night, i was looking over some of my and harvesters old drawings - and i found it! nope - this ain't no april fools gag - it's the real deal! i present, the true birthplace of the kerbal kind, the very fist documented set of (highly unsuccessful) missions -- THE ORIGINAL KERBO LOG!! this was drawn by harvester himself, just over a decade ago (yeah, kerbals had been around for a while before they were put in a game) - he went by the alias 'The Shadow' back then, but you can see the similarity to the sketchwork on the KSP credits screen  anyways - this is also the real reason why the message 'KIA' appears on the crew monitors when they die, a lot of other subtle historical influences such as this have made it into the game as well - notice the first few recorded kerbonauts names : again, todays date undermines my credibility - so let's have harvester vouch for this, where is he? anyways, just thought i'd share a little of bit of recently rediscovered kerbal history

An Important Announcement from the Moderation Team.
Moach replied to RayneCloud's topic in KSP1 Discussion
back at work, we have about 2 million users on our flash games site coming across an announcement about the whole site having been bought by a major foreign web tycoon and will be fully translated from portuguese to russian over the next week and this too was hilarious  -
[1.0.2] NovaPunch 2.09. - May 6th - 1.0 Compatibility Update
Moach replied to Tiberion's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
very much awesome, sir! indeed quite awesome it is  now, as we\'re going down the plugins lane (which i enthusiastically applaud you for), i could move this thread into the plugin-powered section if you want... or if you prefer otherwise, i just ask that you please add a little note about the demo version no-plugins issue by the DL link, or perhaps make the 'special' parts such as the Odin lander into a separate thread under plugin-powered, whatever suits you best : again - very much awesome, sir! -
btw - user number 20k is..... *drumroll* piarre! he has zero posts so far - and i think has not yet been made aware of his contribution in turning all those four nines into zeros for the second time so here\'s to you, our 20000th user to join! may your number of launches be not too far higher than your number of safe landings! (however unlikely that is for kerbals) :hailprobe:
-
there are also more than 20000 registered users  which puts the KSP community at the impressive mark of 2.26441553xO/F (ratio of user count in relation to the Orbiter forum) i think even harvester didn\'t really expect it to become THIS big - quite amazing, really... i was one of the first 10 users, seeing it grow like from back then is indeed vertiginous, to say the least :

as you have probably noticed, the addons section has been reorganized... again : yes well - since the last round of board shuffling, the addons area had become, hmm... 'inconvenient' - for the lack of a better word hopefully, now i\'ve sorted it out to a configuration that at the very least makes some sense - and i\'ve tried my best to relocate a massive amount of posts to their new respective locations.... logically, there may still be misplaced topics at some of the boards (this will take some time) - and unfortunately, a couple of locked threads may have been mistakenly deleted i do apologize for that :-[ anyways - i and the rest of the mod team are gonna keep working to make sure all is where it should be, and if any questions, feel free to ask here or in the forum-forum
-
say - if you wanna 'unarchive' a thread of your own, just ask us... the archives are like any other board, so it\'s pretty simple to just move stuff in and out don\'t worry, you shouldn\'t 'lose' anything... but then, if by any chance you do - let us know

part.cfg Variables
Moach replied to Thoughtless's topic in KSP1 C# Plugin Development Help and Support
it\'s a real treat, indeed - harvester said the .cfg parser is based on the reflection system which is built in to MONO, and thus Unity, thus KSP : so whatever properties you expose as 'public' in the class, shall be automatically exposed for cfg-based manipulation - cool, huh? -
lol - great point there : i usually try to keep my code as self-explanatory as i possibly can - then i still use comments to remind myself (and whomever dares read my stuff) of what i was thinking when i wrote a particular bit i too dislike seeing people use comments INSTEAD of writing proper code.... that\'s the 'crutch' he was talking about so yeah, much agreed - one should write code as if there were no such thing as comments - but then, promptly remind oneself that there IS, and use it to clarify ones ideas further, add notes and/or format things to a more readable state can\'t go wrong with that
-
hmm, you forgot me - it\'s March, the 9th... same as harvester... and wait - we\'re also twins : -- whoa!... coincidence?
-
hmm, i\'d advise that this board should be used for releasing plugins without actual parts... those can be confusing to have together with 'normal' addons, since you could just be making something to be used for making other addons around, rather than delivering finished content if you have yourself a full package of plugin and part, feel free to use the general addon releases board - but in the case i just mentioned, use this one
-
well, speaking of that - today, HarvesteR and myself turn 27 - yep, that whole birthday another-lap-around-the-sun celebrations deal.... i still insist that the whole part of the receving end of that whole 'happy birthday' ritual is very much confusing and poorly defined... i never know if i should clap along (to myself?) or should i even join in the singing?... seems strange that nobody ever really gave this proper thought : well, there\'s usually cake - and that\'s a good thing  (at least the science gets done)

hopefully, there\'s people right now keeping track of those things.... and even more hopefully, they\'re very good at their jobs : there\'s only so much our atmosphere can shred through before something bulky hits the ground... as for non-bulky stuff, it\'s actually pretty common to have meteorites actually impact the surface, but most aren\'t big enough to qualify as a Bruce Willis movie plot ;D i\'m pretty certain my cousin has a meteorite at his place.... he said he heard a crash, kinda like a rock dropped from atop a building... and when he recovered it, he found it was a jagged ball of some heavy dark metal-like substance, much akin what later googling revealed common meteorites to resemble and there are pictures on the net of cars with meteorite holes through their hoods, some saying things like 'guess what else them insurance companies WON\'T cover?' - some tough luck, heh?
-
you know what else is kinda astounding too? IIRC, the man narrating this, renowned physicist dr. Tyson, is known to have twitted a while back about having enjoyed himself playing a certain game with little green men that build rockets : there was a post about this somewhere.... it was a while ago, but it sure was something to learn that one of the great minds of our day also enjoys kerbal rocketry ;D thanks for sharing this! - i already knew the fact itself, but it\'s certainly eye opening to think about it in the way he does there
-
that\'s no baloon.... (read in the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi saying 'That\'s no Moon') well, it ain\'t alien either - odd, indeed - but it seems (and other pictures confirm) this is a set of lights placed onto the taxiway itself... the purpose of which, who knows? could be a holding spot or something.... maybe a helicopter-related signaling device... it\'s no vehicle i tell you that, look: and damn, you wouldn\'t believe the amount of paranoid UFO-sighting nonsense that comes up when googling for this particular 'feature'.... you humans are weird
-
cool! me and HarvesteR are getting ATV launch for birthday! (yep, twins) well, assuming that date holds up... those things get scrubbed so often.... :
-
i helped invent it.... then my brother (HarvesteR) went ahead and started actually making it.... to which my first reaction was 'c\'mon! - i was gonna...' but then i just let him do the work while i nagged incessantly at him provided invaluable technical consulting and concept advice : i wcould have helped code it, but he lives in Mexico while i live in Brazil - and that\'s one hell of a tough commute
-
huh - maybe we should add his picture : (theres one in the 'put a face to the name' thread)
-
easy to edit and understand, indeed - they are.... but then - not very easy to make sure everything is set in a way that doesn\'t mess up the balance of the game and/or get your attach points aligned right this device can really go a long way for the parts standardization effort  thanks for making it!
-
i wish.... no it wasn\'t THAT big.... i said it was a moderately-famous band - Sepultura is outright famous in comparison :

may this humble step towards enlightenment be the first of a journey towards a world where people are TRULY part of a democracy a world where decisions are made by individuals together reaching consensus, not by politicians egos seeking victory where laws are tailored often and enthusiastically to accommodate innovation, not built to suppress it in the interests of greed where masses can be heard without the need for desperate acts of feverous protest, but calmly and amicably over openly accessible means of communication where advertising that cannot be dismissed is remembered only as a tale of harsh old days, told by grandfathers reminding unappeased children to be patient where more money is spent by companies for creating things of real value than for conveying ideas of values that are not all there where people see events while they happen just as they really are, rather than through the lenses of corporate/political thinking where the truth is an institution as solid as the ideal it represents a world of intellectual and cultural prosperity - where men are free to know and seek knowledge - this is our time - this is the internet - we are it as it is us - together as many, each as his own SOPA must die! *a crowd of muzzles flash towards the sky*
