  1. It was said even by HarvesteR himself that the tech tree is intended mostly as a means of "pace-controlled introduction" to the game's many features, lest they don't overwhelm new players all at once... In other words: You just started playing. cheers!
  2. FSX not playing it - that's fairly straightforward. getting it to work, now... one could write a book about that. and have your claims disputed by another author years down... There's a whole industry built around that thing - a lot of money goes through that and a good "gaming rig" doesn't necessarily mean a good "FSX rig" -- it requires considering your hardware purchases up front and have you ever heard of a thing called "superfetch"? I hadn't, until you know... FSX wasn't running as well as it should it is now... took me just 8 years to get it done. straight and simple, eh?
  3. that was actually pretty funny. I wonder who's behind this - seems like one massively overbuilt joke, if it's really just for lolz. my guess it that's maybe still a WIP... for what purpose exactly, i can't tell
  4. For me, the limit is more often than not something related to lag or CTD's... That's usually the thing that stops most of my über-ambitious projects from going any further - I just keep making those things bigger and bigger until the game simply can't take it anymore I do tend to pile up on addons somewhat manically, I have to admit...
  5. There's a reason why you cannot timewarp during science'ing operations. it's not for gameplay - it's a technical one. thing is, when you time-warp, your ship goes into "orbit on rails" mode - thus it's no longer simulating all those pretty parts you have dangling around there. you still see them, of course - but they're really frozen, and no frame-by-frame logic is taking place until you get back to normal simulation (aka: 1x) so, if the science-making parts are not updating, how could we learn anything? and in a nutshell, that's why they don't not a bug, not a feature, just a uhh... thing. cheerz
  6. general discussion it is! hang on to something while we airlift the thread... and nice ship! that's pretty awesome
  7. In short - yes! Squiggly lines bother me quite a bunch. I'm specially unsettled when it corrects a word I know is right. I then have to google that word to get a definition which often proves the auto-correct wrong... I take much pride of my correct spellnig, see
  8. inside their own cockpits there is (was, afaik) a somewhat clever little MFD with buttons that actually do stuff... unless something's changed and the author perhaps removed it for bug fixing's sake - dunno anyhow, I just noticed this topic was posted on the releases board, not in addon affairs where it should go - don't sweat it tho, I'll move it there for you
  9. As far as I see it, the mods themselves are very much valid playtesting results - It goes the same way as posting a topic saying "I think it'd be better like this", or "I wanted to see more of that". But instead of presenting such conclusions in the form of a forum post, any mod is an inevitable suggestion to a large extent, showing in a very hands-on way what an user would have done about a feature if it were his call... It just so happen that said user really did go out and do it. There's a lot devs can learn from mods, even though it's a far less straightforward learning process than one would initially expect.... mind you a snippet from game design theory 101 -- there's a thing called a "flow state curve" (or whatever) that basically defines how difficult a game must "feel" to a player as he progresses and develops his skills. Breaking away from the optimal curve will lead to either boredom or frustration down the line -- any game that aspires to be fun will have it's core mechanics built around this deceptively simple concept this means, whatever new features ever come along, they're most likely not gonna change this very finicky balance of difficulty and progressi as much as devs can manage - that's a game designer's job, at it's most basic... worrying about this is pretty much moot - it's like worrying if a pilot knows how to fly an airplane new updates are gonna bring new and interesting ways to go about the same "optimal" difficulty/progress curve - they're unlikely to break it unless something truly unexpected happens cheers
  10. Windows 8 could be considered a paradox... Really - Think about the fact that if only that... *cringe* "thing" had been released under the name of "Windows Touch" or something, and thus marketed as a new mobile platform, and not a supposed "replacement" for trusty old '7; M$ could have very well outdone Apple by lightyears, releasing the first-ever mobile OS that can run all and any existing windows software you could think of without any publisher-made adaptations.... well, that's not really how it happened now, was it? *where's the facepalm smiley?* the line of thinking that led a multi-billion enterprise to such a bizarre failure even in understanding basic, obvious reality around them is not only self-conflicting, It's a psychiatric issue! - I think these people should be put in an institution or something Ask me what I think of Adobe and Flash now (that's another one staring down the same yet-smoking barrel that shot M$'s foot off) so well - computers themselves cannot be paradoxical in any way, they'd simply crash - But people, on the other hand....
  11. this is actually a pretty solid suggestion - well done! it's possible this was just overlooked in the heat of development, in this case it'd likely that we may expect it be in for the next few updates or even hotfixes ... transmitting data more using A/G's would allow us to do glorious Scienceâ„¢ while performing the usual white knuckle flying typical of the Kerbal kind
  12. this had been planned and considered during the course of whatever update it was that gave us maneuver nodes... it was then made somewhat obsolete since whenever you set a target and plan an intercept trajectory insertion, you'll get the projected position of your target at the moment/position your orbits "cross" it kinda makes the whole thing somewhat moot - except in the one case of trying to track a target that's not in an orbit that intersects your own at any point, i.e. concentric circular orbits... then it does get a little inconvenient indeed.
  13. the KAS mod pack has exactly that, you know... not saying it's not a valid suggestion, but judging by the latest developments, with the order of priorities the dev crew is currently set on, this would probably sit very far down the end of the "maybe we'll get to thinking about this someday" lineup... KAS has this working for you right now cheers
  14. Eh, what version is this about? .22 has a much refined SAS system, which as far as I could tell, eliminates most of these oscillation problems... unless you do mean .22, then it'd be nice to get more info on what exactly you're experiencing there... cheerz
  15. keep in mind, this is only the humble beginnings of the very first "gameplay" elements of KSP... more likely than not, sandbox mode has no science-making features simply because that didn't make the cut for this release - same goes for pretty much everything else one might suspect is "missing" remember that on the very first versions. KSP was a 2.5D experience (you could only launch east/west) - 3d came after another update, then came everything else. this is called "iterative design" and is a very clever way of working through such complex things in a way that makes sense... Space Stations might have been made somewhat pointless now... but then again - there was no way to tell before ppl got to play and see what gives... this is where feedback becomes important, as long as those suggestions are kept in a civil tone and those proposing them understand the real meaning of the term "work in progress" -- this is where and when opinion counts. As far as I can tell, there seems to be a lot of grey areas about what would be the next steps in building this whole new side of the game... mind then that this is to career mode as the addition of the Mün was to sandbox -- there's more than a couple of tough-answered questions that come with treading such new territory
  16. Awesome to hear about the G15 V1 - that's what I got! Will try it as soon as the remaining bits of my simpit game dev. workstation arrive!
  17. well, if it were you strapped to one of them boom sticks - would you be able to sleep?

I feel more free today than back when I got my first car! albeit now a pedestrian. - This is a move as awesome as I've ever done!
  19. Personally, Jet-A1 is recently becoming a new personal favorite over good ole' unleaded...

  21. You all do realize it's perfectly possible to keep two installations of KSP, right? one for modding and another for testing... just move the addon-heavy folder out of the steamapps folder and have it download again (repair) - this is acually a good thing to do because you can also help addon devs beta test their own developments as new versions come along, they need this just as much as Squad does there's no option on the poll for that, but well - that's what I would do
  22. Yes i'm pretty pleased with myself now! yes, there are more important things I got to worry about, but it's nice to have a break from my troubles every now and then, SPECIALLY when it envolves something as cool as a free helicopter ride! so far I have flown in all types of aircraft and rode in a glorious assortment of various sea and land vehicles - still, helicopter was high on my "do before you die" list and yesterday, I got a chance! - I can only say: It IS every bit as awesome as I expected to be, and then a little more!! here's me just after a 45 minute flight of awesome! and then I got to shoot a video of the Agusta you see in the picture (that was my ride) plus a Bell 407 taking off side by side shortly afterwards http://youtu.be/s2ZzBAWEbEw Alas for me, I didn't get to fly back home in the chopper as well; That was the deal that earned me the free ride, to drive back my step-dad's car down the traffic-jammed mountain road that leads in and out of this popular winter holiday spot (those who live in the São Paulo, Brazil area probably know already where this is) as he and my mother (same mother as Harvester's) would return with his über-rich cousin aboard this more optimal means of transportation - The drive back took me over 3 hours... but it was totally worth it!!! that dumb smile on my face still hasn't completely gone! - what a ride!
  23. mind you all that this is strictly a hypothetical scenario to boot - no DLC and/or expansion has been confirmed or even seriously considered as far as we can tell there was a massive uproar about a month ago sprung from the very concept of there perhaps being an expansion in a distant future - and this was purely speculation, as not even HarvesteR had really decided whether or not this would in fact come to be the case at some point but it was enough to trigger a massive barrage of forum flak; the moderation staff now keeps a close eye on threads about this stuff just in case people start fighting again.... don't worry - no rules are in breech here, we just got a little post-traumatic stress disorder given what happened... last time.... *flashback of being under heavy machine gun fire - OMG, there's Charlie everywhere!!* carry on then! cheers!
