  1. This looks suspiciously familiar: ...at any rate, very nice job! I didn't know it was possible to fly these things in 1.0 without having the Kerbal go poof, rather painfully. Be back in a second -Upsilon
  2. Thanks for the heads-up! I really do appreciate it. Sending some +Rep your way. I'll fix it in the morning. I was able to find Alshain (he's at #42), but Norpo remains missing... I'll put him in at the earliest possible convenience. Sorry, Norpo! I'll also certainly revise the numbers. I was a bit confused about the numbers as well, but your explanation clears things up pretty nicely Such is the problem with letting a mere mortal, subject to the unpredictable whims of Murphy's Law, update the Group. (sigh) Thanks again for pointing this out. I really appreciate it. -Upsilon
  3. ...and, it's finally done. (Or, at least I think it is.) There were at least two people who I either didn't see yesterday, or who joined the Group since then. Maybe there's more... if you've joined the Group but you don't see yourself up there, please let me know. In addition, there were a lot of changes that happened since yesterday, especially among the members with one light-green bar. I didn't change them, because I'm pressed for time once again and they're likely to change soon anyways. As a matter of fact, I jumped up from #5 to #4 on the Forum because of the Group update, and I didn't even adjust my own rank. By the way, thanks for all of the friendly responses to the update so far! I do my best to find exactly what makes each Group member special, which takes quite a bit of time... but in the end, it's all worth it. -Upsilon
  4. Light-Green Group has been updated, mostly... There's still another twenty or thirty people to add. I just don't have time to do it today. If you're a member of the Group and you don't see yourself up there, don't fret! I'll probably have the Group completed by this time tomorrow. Sorry. ~~~ As for the people I have had the time to add, welcome to the Group! It's good to have you here. -Upsilon
  5. Hi everyone! ~~~ .craft file is out. It's right here. It's labeled "Cute Widdle Dino." No, I couldn't think of anything else to call it. Sorry about its treacliness. (That's totally a word, by the way.) The only thing out of the ordinary is that pressing the '1' action group toggles solar panels. It's probably best to fly this thing with caps lock on. Other than that, it's just your standard dinosaur. Nothing out of the ordinary. ~~~ I also made a video! ~~~ So. Enjoy your cute little dinosaur, and let me know what you think about it! Oh, and I'll update the original post a little later. I'm currently in the middle of some work, and I just wanted to dash this post off quickly... -Upsilon
  6. Semifinalists still aren't out yet. They'll likely be out in the next two to three days, though I can't be sure. Sorry.
  7. Hey guys! Semi-finalists are not up yet. - Please don't have a heart attack. Unfortunately, pandoras kitten hasn't sent in the full set of scores... yet. Also, one judge (not naming names here) hasn't submitted his entries at all yet. I'll send him/her a PM now. Most of the scores are all-but-settled, but I just want to make sure that everything is properly tallied before announcing the finalists. (There's a separate and honorable badge for the finalists, which you can take a look at here. It's quite nice.) Even after the finalists are announced, I'm going to have another round of judging for the Grand Supreme Winners. It will likely be a week or so more before those results come out. Hopefully, we can get some hype going in the meantime! I really appreciate all of the judges' hard work on this. It was quite an endeavor for me to judge the Oscar-B's, myself. I had a lot of trouble with deciding the second-place entry for one category, for example: there were no less than three entries that were fully deserving of that spot. Let it be known to all of the nominees that even if you aren't a finalist, your stuff is still great. I would love to 3D-print trophies for all of the winners, but they start at about $100 and there are fourteen categories. I really don't want to spend some $1,400 on this. Hopefully that's understandable. (If you can think of an alternate way of doing it or if you own a fancy 3D printer, PM me! I'd love to make that happen.) Sorry for the brief update. I know that some of you were expecting more than this. And trust me, it is coming soon. -Upsilon
  8. Kerbolday's Eve, 26.11. A lone Kerbal is about to step foot upon another world. ~~~ "Hey, Jeb. This is Bill. How's it going up there?" "The view is great. I can clearly see the target landing spot... I'm at about three hundred meters per second." "Copy that. Okay, can you go ahead and reduce your lateral speed a little?" "Sure thing, Bill." ~~~ "Alright. I'm down to ten meters or so, vertical speed 1/2 [m/s], lateral zero." "Roger that." "Five meters. Kicking up some dust." ... "Three." ... "Touchdown light! Engines are off." "Copy that! There are a lot of smiling faces down here." "Well, there's certainly one up here." ~~~ "I'm out of the hatch. Whoo-wee, the low gravity is fun." "Just be careful out there, Jeb." "Roger that. I'm going to use the EVA pack now." ... "The EVA pack works wonders. I'm floating like a cloud." "Great! Be careful though." "Why?" "You know why, Jeb. Don't be difficult." "You realize that this is being broadcast to thirty million Kerbals across the world?" "*sigh*" ~~~ "Alright. I've planted a flag." "Great. Why don't you go by the flag so that the lander's camera can get a good picture?" "Roger, Mom." "...When are you coming back home again?" ~~~ ...anyways. Look no further if you don't want any secrets to be revealed! As you might have guessed, this was done in the polar regions of Kerbin. Even though the region is perfectly flat, it looks a lot like the Mun from a distance. Up close, not so much - but it's passable, especially since Kerbals probably wouldn't know what the surface actually looked like. I colored the pictures in black-and-white to lend an authentic air, and also to thwart the tell-tale blue glow of Kerbin's ice. I used Alt-F12 for much of the flight to the pole and the pictures of Jeb floating serenely above the capsule. Other than that, no tricks were used: I flew the mission to the North Pole myself, because Hyperedit isn't my cup of tea. I'm especially proud of the first two pictures: they look surprisingly accurate, given the circumstances. Anyway, that's my entry. Let me know what you think! -Upsilon
  9. Hello everyone! Thanks for the positive comments. I think that rather than having a flamethrower, this little guy will just have two hidden RCS ports on its nose for a more gentle effect. I love creating these small little things. I'll probably create a video today or tomorrow, and the .craft file will be released along with said video. So stay tuned! -Upsilon
  10. Hello everyone! Today, I'm making something a little different. It's a VTOL! It's small! It's cute! It's... well... it's... see for yourself. ~~~ Cute Mecha Dinosaur! ~~~ This tiny mechanical creature has loads of gimmicks. It can stand on its two hind feet, which was difficult enough to achieve. It has solar-panel 'wings' for a bit extra power (though the tail, made of RTGs, provides plenty of power as-is). It can VTOL and land safely with the help of some parachutes. Best of all, it looks nice and is rather part-light (79 parts). I'm sure you want to see some pictures... so here we go. Pictures! Here's the creature on the ground. Note the big eyes and the solar-panel wings. Taking to the skies! RCS tanks give this craft close to a minute of flight time - not too impressive for a regular VTOL, but pretty neat for a dinosaur. ...and it's landed on the SPH after an uneventful journey. ~~~ Video! Give it a watch! ~~~ Specs and Features! Part Count: 79 (reasonable) Mass: 2.3t (also reasonable) Size: 4.7x4.5x4.4m (can fit within a Mk3 cargo bay) Electric Charge: 605 (very high) Monopropellant: 240 (reasonable) Flight Time at Full Throttle: 0:29 (low-ish) Flight Time at ~1 TWR: 0:50 (a bit better) ~~~ Docking Port: Check! Emergency Safety Parachutes: Check! Reasonable Handling: Check! Light-Up Eyes: Check! Solar Panel Wings: Check! Adorableness: Well, I don't even have to answer this one. ~~~ .craft file: HERE! It only costs 183,420 roots. Bargain-bin pricing, no? ~~~ Thanks for taking a peek at this design! I hope you liked what you saw. -Upsilon
  11. Hello everyone! Sorry for bumping this thread up from the abyssal depths of the Forum, but it's still a relevant challenge, is it not? I'm just wondering whether completing the Cup is even possible in 1.0. After all, the drag model has changed significantly, making this challenge even harder than it was in 0.90. I had some serious difficulty with flying a small-ish plane under even the largest of the three bridges. It may be best to use VTOLs now, no? Anyways, give the challenge a try and let me know what you think! I'm really looking forward to seeing this done again -Upsilon
  12. Okay, first up: I'll probably write some more on this later today or tomorrow. There's a lot of good stuff to come, trust me. And now to reply to Camacha! Oh, there was definitely some faulty planning in there. If you thought I was implying anything else, you may have been seeing something that I wasn't. I actually really enjoyed a lot of Comic Con, especially my time with Das and Day 3 (though I haven't written about those bits yet, of course). This story is going to have more 'good bits' soon, trust me. I realize I may have cut the narrative off at a particularly negative moment, which you seem to have picked up on... Let me also say that the main purpose of this post wasn't to vent my irritation or to be negative about the entire Comic-Con affair. Rather, it was just to tell the tale of 'that one time I did that thing, and all the other things happened too.' Trust me, I've learned my lessons. -Upsilon
  13. Again, the judges will have the final say on the vote, but it would be nice to get others' opinions as well! Thanks for your list. Maybe some others will join in the fun too! Oh, and Xacktar, will this video bump me up a place? (I'm just kidding... but hey! It's got explosions in it. Lots of explosions.) -Upsilon
  14. So, two people have submitted their scores to me so far. I'm currently working on my own scoring sheet. I don't think I'll give anything away by saying this: The two judges who have submitted so far had eerily similar preferences in some categories and completely different preferences in others. It'll be interesting to see what the scores will be when everything's rounded out. I'd love to see your personal scores for categories and such! How would people fare if you were the judge? Who deserves honors and recognition? If this gets popular enough, I may even add in an 'Audience Choice' award for the entries that receive the most love! ~~~ (Judges, if you post on here, try to make your answers as vague as possible so that no one has any idea of what you're saying. I'll likely do the same over the next couple of days as the other judges submit their scores to me.) -Upsilon
  15. Hello everyone! It's time to cast my personal nominations. (Note that these won't have any more or less of a bearing on the scores than anyone else's entries....) Best Showcase Channel: Me (BagelRabbit). While my content may lack some of the polish of others' channels, it still delivers some quality bugs and nice craft with some humor thrown in the mix. Best Comedy Channel: Felsmak. Utterly insane in every way possible. (I mean that in a good way.) Featuring a unique blend of humor, Felsmak's videos are also quite well-edited and feature some seriously cool ideas. Best Up-and-Coming YouTuber: Avera9eJoe. Avera9eJoe's consistent quality and eye for detail merits far more than the ~150 subscribers he's acquired. Check his channel out if you haven't already! Best Inactive Channel: Andrew Hansen. Andrew was a prominent and up-and-coming YouTuber when he disappeared off the face of the earth, about six months ago. His videos are well-known and well-loved, even today. ~~~ I'll do the final update to the list in the morning, once any other last-minute entries have been submitted. 'Night, all! -Upsilon
  16. It's the last day to nominate people! Be sure to nominate whoever strikes your fancy... there are still many great YouTubers who haven't been mentioned yet (including me, I think). Thanks! -Upsilon
  17. There will probably be several events that randomly correspond with my update. Possibly the most notable (for me at least) is that I'm currently a single point of Reputation away from moving into the #2 slot on the Light-Green Group. It's a bit absurd (I haven't been as active on the Forum as usual lately) but I'm not complaining! I will, however, not exceed RIC in reputation. Ever. If I even get close to disturbing this hallowed balance, I'll just +Rep Red Iron Crown as often as I possibly can until he's safely above me. There are three certainties in life: death, taxes, and RIC being at the very top of the Light-Green Group. I don't want to mess any of them... some problem with fundamental quantum physics may occur -Upsilon
  18. H'm. It seems I came on a bit too late to have a specific behavior of mine attacked... Mr. sal_vager removed the content just before I came on. I can't say for certain whether the argument was ad hominem or not, but it must have been rather unpleasant. Let me just repeat that while I respect everyone's point of view, I think all discussions on this thread (and on the Forum in general!) should be civil, regardless of what anyone personally believes. This was stated on the Original Post, but it bears repeating... -Upsilon
  19. Gently bumped for relevancy, unfortunately. I wish the Forums would have calmed down a little more by now, but alas, it is not so. At least things are distinctly beginning to return to normal... I think. -Upsilon
  20. The long and short of it is to be helpful. It's fine to voice concerns, but please do so in a civil and respectful way. If you like a post, don't be afraid to say so! Remember that the other members of the Forum are people, and mostly nice people at that. Treat them accordingly. If you're posting, do your best to make sure you're making original content. Don't post something that someone else has posted recently. Try to post in the correct section, and try to make your posts express your ideas well. If you're replying, try to put some thought into your posts. My replies are generally over a hundred words, but that's just because I'm long-winded. Still, though, writing a good, well-thought-out reply shows others that you care about their ideas and are willing to engage in some serious discussion. Use proper grammar, spelling, and syntax. It will make people take your points more seriously. (You seem to be doing pretty well with this though.) Read the Forum rules! Not enough people do so, and they're really the law of the land. Your post shows me that you have what it takes to be a great member of the community. Thanks for asking! -Upsilon
  21. Hee hee. I created a "duplicate thread" that I think is a bit of a better explanation, which you can find here. It covers pretty much everything you need to know, and with more accuracy than the one shown above (though it is a bit of a long read). Now, back on topic! KSP is fun precisely because most designs won't work unless they're carefully planned, built, and flown. It's a game about learning what's wrong and then trying again... learning what went wrong there and then trying again... and again... and again. If you reach a stumbling block (and it seems you have), there's an enormous amount of Forum-goers who want to help! If one aspect of the game makes it impossible for you to have fun, you can use a mod to bypass it. If the game is still causing you grief, just play something else for a little while, and come back when you think it would be nice to give it another shot. And trust me, getting your rocket to work will be massively satisfying... a bit like an itch that you are finally able to scratch. You'll realize that there was a relatively easy fix for the problem, you'll kick yourself, and then you'll eagerly press onwards. It's happened to me loads of times, trust me. KSP is fun (to me, at least). It is, to quote Dean Kamen, the "hardest fun you'll ever have." But it's the most nerve-wracking, rewarding, and enjoyable game I've ever come across. Best of luck! -Upsilon
  22. I really love the number of people on the Forum who are entering this Group! My thread, however, is going to be a royal pain to update. Ah well, I should have known this would happen. I suppose I'll tentatively say that I'll be updating the Light-Green Group in less than a week. I know I've spent long enough putting this update off... but it does have to happen, sooner or later. -Upsilon
  23. Quick update! All of your suggestions have been added to the OP! Sorry for the delay. Judges have been chosen! To wit, they are KasperVld, Hatbat, pandoras kitten, MisterFister, and Xacktar. I'll send the lot of them a PM as soon as I'm done with this post. There are five days left to submit your entries! Be sure to do so soon. Thanks once again for partaking in this, and sorry for my recent lack of activity. It will pick back up again soon, okay? -Upsilon
  24. Ooh! I've been waiting for one of these. Here are some of the things I've found in KSP over the years: On the Large and Small Remote Guidance Units, a variety of... interesting... circuit boards can be found. Examples include circuit boards labeled "Thingamajig" and "Oscillotatotron." (These labels show up better on pre-1.0 versions, though they're still there now.) On the inside of the Airbrakes, there's a 'Danger!' warning that shows a Kerbal's head in the airbrake. (In other words, don't stick your head in there!) On the black part of the Crew Cabin, between the windows, it says KRU-K4B1N MK2. Of course, on the Mobile Processing Lab, the words 'ISS' and 'M[backwards-N]P' appear, which is the International Space Station and Mir in Cyrillic. In addition, the international spacecraft IDs of the two stations are seen at the top of the module. I read somewhere that the antenna has the word 'BEEP' written in ASCII on it. There are loads of other little things in KSP, which I tend to notice far too much... I'll make a note of them if I can find them again -Upsilon
