  1. One idea is to have a "Debris Score" saved in the saved game file independent of the debris slider control. Every time you leave a piece of debris it gets counted against you in your saved game. This value doesn't need to be visible to the player; it's just a value that is saved that is used to help calculate reputation. So even if you go into the menu and set the slider to zero, you still have the negative score from the twenty somewhat pieces of debris you left in LKO.
  2. Nothke, that is very good work you have there. And as a user of Dromoman, I am very excited to see prospects of an upcoming update . One idea is to put in multiple colors, such as having both a darker and a white texture option. I feel like white will get used more often since it fits more in line with the stock parts, but it also would be nice to have some choice in the shade of color.
  3. Requesting permission to quote this in the B9 fixes thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/66020-B9-0-23-fixes
  4. Custom Built with Asus Cooler Master Stacker 830 Case Xeon E3-1230 16 GB ECC DDR3 1333 RAM 2x 300 GB Velocirapter HDDs in RAID 0 config (2 years ago they were cheaper than the SSDs) 750 watt Corsair AX750 PSU 120 mm Noctua Heatsink Radeon HD 7950 GPU Initially built for applications such as Visual Studio, Matlab, and Multisim (thus the reason for the Xeon processor). It also gets used for some gaming.
  5. Cupcake, do you mind if I ask what joystick you use? I've been in the market for one and am not really able to find a decent one to replace my old (and no longer working) force-feedback unit.
  6. I've used the tank tracks for some absurdly large vehicles. The thing to keep in mind about the tank tracks is that they have to be combined with with another rover wheel in order to provide the initial push. Lack Luster Labs has some interesting rover parts (including kethane tanks) that can be used in conjunction with the tank tracks.
  7. 1. Learn to dock without the aid of MechJeb. 2. Modularize everything. It cuts down on the design time behind building a station, base, or multipart ship. 3. Build the rocket/plane and hit the launch button. If it handles like the old farm truck, make some adjustments. A crashing rocket/plane is part of the game and enjoyment . 4. Never send up a manned flight without a way of getting the poor Kerbal back down to Kerbin's ground, safely. Have rescue craft handy. 5. Perfect the Hofman Transfer orbit. Get to know this concept very intimately. 6. Smaller is always bigger. Avoid a large payload and avoid large stages unless you absolutely need them. With docking ports in the game, send your large contraptions up in pieces and assemble them in LKO.
  8. Interesting. Although there is almost no evidence to indicate what is causing the water vapor; we can only speculate at this point. I'm surprised that Ceres has enough gravity to even hold the water vapor in. We are not likely gonna know the answers until NASA Dawn's 2015 flyby.
  9. No worries, it happens. Better than looking at log files for two hours straight. I'm doing it then. Mine is going to have at least two vehicles then: a VTOL (or crane if that doesn't work) and a big ole' fuel tanker.
  10. Sierra, I have not made an entry yet. I believe mpink should be the one on the leaderboard, not myself.
  11. I'd be curious as to Sierra's answer to this. This is not a bad idea for fueling. It also would be a good option for refueling the VTOLs if they have a small fuel reserve.
  12. Challenge accepted. Although I have a question. Would the VTOL engines from B9 aerospace be allowed in this challenge? I have a lifter craft already made that uses the VTOL engines, as it would cut down on the amount of time.
  13. That's a big helicopter. I like it. Although I'm wanting to pick people's brains on the helicopters and how to fly them. I have constructed a small copter using the basic heli blades from Firespitter. It lifts off the runway perfectly fine except for the fact that it's extremely difficult to maneuver in situations such as landing on the helipad on the VAB. VTOLs made using parts from the B9 mod (which I understand use the exact same plugin) are stable, but the helicopter is extremely difficult to control as it does not want to stay on a given trajectory like the VTOLs do. Is this just simply the nature of the beast or am I doing something wrong?
  14. KSP is running out of memory. Use a texture reduction pack or texture compressor mod.
  15. Jool could have biomes, but I also think the devs would need to make a different approach when it comes to Jool. An idea is to give Jool more vertical layers ,such as high orbit, low orbit, upper Magnetosphere, lower Magnetosphere, upper atmosphere, and lower atmosphere. Maybe even have a "radiation belt" biome for low and high orbit altitudes. The same goes for the sun. A possible biome for the sun could be an area of which a ship can observe the solar wind in various orbits. A star can be just as interesting of a place as a planet if you think about the science of it. Biomes could consists of: heliopause ultra high orbit high orbit low orbit upper magnetosphere lower magnetsphere various radiation belts (at different altitudes) the solar wind (at different altitudes)
  16. What I would like to see in the 0.24 update: 1. Implement biomes for Duna & Ike. 2. A working monetary system/economy. 3. Maybe a sneak peak of Gas Giant #2? What I would ultimately like to see (that I know for sure I'm not getting in the .24 update) 1. Gas Giant #2 with its moons. It would be cool if one of those moons had a retrograde orbit. 2. An Asteroid belt on similar orbit with Dres. 3. Geysers on Eeloo. 4. Volcanoes on Laythe. 5. Art pass for Jool. 6. 3.75 m parts 7. Reworked spaceplane parts. Maybe an art pass? 8. Parts for a space telescope.
  17. It's legal and ethical only (and only) if you have permission from the individual mod authors. Even if the readme to a mod says you can distribute it, I would still contact the mod author out of pure respect to ask them permission to redistribute. I've seen people doing this run off perfectly good mod authors in other modding communities by doing this sort of thing without asking permission.
  18. Yup. Some science fiction, such as Star Wars, state that a "capital ship" is any ship longer than 100 ft (it may have been meters). Modern day definition simply refers to a primary ship of a battlegroup as a capital ship. I'm partial to the Star Wars definition. So if this "mobile station" is longer than 100 ft (or 33 m), then I would say that it should be classified as a "capital ship."
  19. I would much rather go for this rather than live aliens as is typically shown in science fiction. One idea I would love to have is to investigate life on Laythe (such as microbiological or small animal, and not unlike the current search on Mars), but to leave inconclusive evidence in such a way as to make the player use their own deductive reasoning skills to decide for themselves whether or not there is some kind of basic life.
  20. I think Eeloo is planned to have geysers and Laythe is planned to have active volcanoes.
  21. My barebones minimum is: TextureCompressor (must have, get it) B9 Aerospace KW Rocketry Space Shuttle Engines. What I normally run in addition to those four: KAS Kethane Figarro GNSS Boat Parts R4 I do not run MechJeb, as I force myself to learn how to do some of the maneuvers.
  22. The Little Rock Air Force base here in Arkansas has a mock up C-130 (actual size) set up as a display at the main gate. It would be incredibly cool if KSP would allow you do something similar with one of your crafts.
  23. A possible, and very likely reason that your KSP install is repeatedly crashing is because KSP runs out of memory. KSP is a 32 bit application, which means that once it uses 3.5 GB of RAM or more, it crashes to the desktop. There are two solutions for this: 1) As Bobe has already suggested, only install the mods that you actually need and use. 2) Use this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/59005-0-23-Release-2-12-Active-Texture-Management-Save-RAM-without-reduction-packs! Usually I will run the Texture Compressor with B9 Aerospace, Space shuttle engines, and KW Rocketry.
  24. Very nice. This is some very good work so far. I'll be watching this thread.
