  1. We Who Witnessed A KSP Novel Written by Lo var Lachland The Lord Kraken tooketh the Kerbal and putteth on Kerbin to worketh it and care for it. And the Lord Kraken Commanded the Kerbal, "You art free to roam Kerbin, but if 't be true thee enter the Garden of Nat'peh, may the Kraken forsooth strike thee down, for thou has't disobeyed the Lord thy Kraken. But the Kerbal didst enter the Garden of Nat'peh, and lo, that Kerbal wast cursed by the Lord the Kraken, and banished to the surface world to serveth the rest of his life in loneliness and fear of the mighty Lord his Kraken, for the Kraken rules all. Coequal after that Kerbal hadst been warned of the trembling power of the Lord his Kraken, the Kerbal didst not obey and wast therefore still ill-fitted to the Kraken. From that day on, the Kerbal wast looked on with distain by the other creatures and the Kerbal wast hath used as an example of obedience to the Lord thy Kraken. 4. “The sky is the limit only for those who aren't afraid to fly!” ― Bob Bello, Sci-Fi Almanac, 2010 August 8th: Well, the goverment has called me up and asked me to be one of the first Kerbals to join the Kerbonaut team. After all, I was an Air Force pilot, so I guess I would be a candidate. Just as I was finishing my packing, a big black limousine pulled up to my apartment, and a man wearing a government ID stepped out of the vehicle. I started putting all my luggage in the hallway when the elevator door opened and out stepped... Gene Kerman. He shook my hand vigorously, and helped me take my gear to the elevator. As we descended the twelve floors to the ground, Gene handed me the profiles of the 3 other Kerbonauts who had been chosen. Bob Kerman, Scientist. Bill Kerman, Engineer. And Valentina Kerman, Pilot. I was stunned at the last name in the list. Val... Val... Yes! Valentina Kerman! She was in the Air Force with me. She had risen to the rank of Senior Airman, before the horrible accident that claimed the life of her co-pilot. After the trauma, she left the Air Force to recover. As Gene led me to the limo, I saw the silhouette of another man sitting in the back of the vehicle. When I stepped into the car, the world famous scientist Wherner Von Kerman greeted me as I sat down and settled in for the ride. As we approached the airport, Gene and Wherner clinked glasses and we toasted to my safety and the further discovery of space. A government official saluted me as we boarded Gene's two engine jet. A few hours later, Gene told me that we were flying over the last stretch of open land before the large mountain range that lead to the KSC. I felt the landing gear of the aircraft touch the runway, and I was greeted by another KSC staff member, who smiled and saluted just like the man at the airport. He guided me to a smaller vehicle that would take me to the Astronaut Complex. And with that, my new career in spaceflight began. ~Jeb

  6. Hi guys! I've decided to start my own KSP novel. This novel was heavily inspired by CalculusWarrior's A Planet Divided: The Story of Kerbin's Kold War, and has a similar premise. I'll try my best to keep this story updated with at least a chapter per month, and hopefully we can keep this thread going for a few years. I'll also add in a bunch of lore as well (maps, history, etc.) If enough people request it. Hope you guys enjoy! NOTE: Some of the images in this novel were made entirely from scratch using blender. I just want to clarify that I make no legal claims to any of this material. You may use it however you like. 8. hint to what i am using for planets nice pack @Gameslinx welcome to THE space program idea i have commited too a sandbox, youtube silent series of my latest endevours (UNCUT) (nope OBS hates the new PC so imigur all the way!) instaid of pictures which i dont understand how on the current forums the goals: to explore laythe for other life forms to allow for long term exploration goals like a long time in LKO stress test my new PC (yes this is a goal) test new means of space stuff backstory, a long time ago the early perhistoric kerbals, looked up they seen purple green and red they wondered what they were after which kobal communications were set up the smartest relocated to the peninsula that we now call the KSC these group of clever kerbals had an idea which the smartest of which robert koddard created a rocket using the pendulum effect. it failed then later he tried putting the engine nozzle at the bottom it worked but got unstable while transonic being coined by gene kerman, this was a great leap forward but the kerbals hadnt realised wings would help at first they tried wings at the top it failed and toppled over at 200 k/s (keters per second) this was in 100 KD in 110 KD after 10 years of intense kresearch and krevelopment they found out that wings at the top will stabalise the craft comeing into the atmosphere but when going out it wont work so they put wings on the same rocket at the bottom it reached mach 1.2 and exploded the kerbals were confused so a smart kerbal his nickname lord kerbin decided to launch a rocket himself with a thermomiter aboard and the heat was very hot 1000 degrees kelcius then it exploded so he wrote these words: "if we put a material which will ablate away through means of disapearing through heat we will have a sucsessful rocket" they attempted the change and suprise suprise it failed the SRB failed (yes i see you smiling @Plecy75) they took 5 years in working out cause of failure. they gave up and launched again it worked this time which is the same moment bob got scared and shouted "WHAT IF IT GOES BOOM!" this invisaged jeb to quickly sketch a "boom stopper" coined by bob of course, a piece of fabric designed to CREATE DRAG gene was furious saying IT NEEDS TO BE AERODYNAMIC HONESTLY JEB WHY jeb tested it out without any ground clearence of course he was in trouble from the KSC owner however it worked so the punisment wasnt needed then jeb asked why not put me in a tin can everyone thought that jeb was crazy this is the continuation of that story...
  9. A fan-made novel, in case you were wondering. I may switch over to a graphic novel format at some point, depending heavily upon whether I can make KSP run ever again after the last update ripped through my mod list like a tornado, let alone take a screenshot without crashing. Future chapters will be right here: Just the one for now. Sorry. [will fix formatting ASAP] In The Name of Science Prologue. Salutations, my old friend. It has been far too long. I regret that I must be so brief after spending so much time on my journeys and so little back home. [incoherent scribble] Pah. I have no gift for weaving words, and you know it, Gene. So, I'll put it bluntly. I cashed in some favors, made some friends, and got real lucky. Get the old gang back together and meet me at the airfield, two miles down the road from my junkyard. Can't miss it. Signed, Jebediah "Jeb" Kerman. P.S. I was planning to tell you there, but I had best warn you now. Bill and I found some volunteers. We're back in business! Gene sipped his coffee as he read the letter. He set his coffee down and made it halfway through folding the letter when his mind caught up. Wide-eyed and now thoroughly awake, he re-read the note to make sure he hadn't misread, then punched himself to make sure he wasn't asleep. Mortimer awoke to what sounded like a very angry solicitor attempting to kick his door down. With great effort, he managed to lift himself from the bed without crumpling to the floor, stumbled down the stairs in a dazed stupor. He opened his front door, saw who was on the other side, and slammed it shut on Gus' boot. "If it's important, come back in an hour; If not, ask someone else. "Mortimer, it's from Jeb; read it." Gene passed the letter through the gap in the doorway to Mortimer. ... "No. I'm not funding Jeb's rampant wanderlust any further until it leads him somewhere profitable. Now kindly get your foot out of my door so I can slam it in your faces." "Actually, Jeb didn't mention funding. He wanted to get all of us back together for something big. He didn't specify what, but he mentioned an airfield by his junk yard." ... "Come back in an hour." and that concludes the prologue. A bit (very) short for my tastes, but I think it sets the tone decently well. It also provides a decent amount of history behind some of the canon characters.

(Thanks guys!) And now, without further ado....... Introduction This story takes place 10 years after the Great War was fought. Jeb and Valentina, both now retired, enjoy their lives with Robert, their child. Bob and Bill, also retired, have both gotten married, and settled down with their own families. However, trouble is stirring in the island nation of Dystrios, and the rebel forces have taken over most of the country. Now, we start this story in the town of Riverview, in the house of Jeb and Valentina. Chapter 1 Time: 09:00 Hours, 10 years after the end of the Great War Location: Jeb’s Dining-room, Riverside, NSK Jeb was eating his breakfast, when little Robert walked into the room. “Hey dad,” He said as he grabbed an apple from the bowl that was on the counter. Jeb noticed that he was hiding something. “Did you take a cookie from the jar?” Jeb asked in a playful tone. Robert pulled two cookies out of his pocket, giving one to Jeb. “Mhm… Thanks,” Jeb said as he took a bite. Gosh, He thought as he took another bite. Val’s cookies sure are good. “What’s going on here?” Val’s voice said as he opened his eyes and turned around. “No eating cookies before you finish breakfast.” Val said with a smile as she took off her garden apron, which she had been wearing when she planted some new flowers. “Sorry,” Jeb said as he stood up. “I guess it’s okay,” Valentina said as Jeb gave her a light kiss on the cheek. Jeb smiled, and turned to Robert, who was eating his apple. “Do you want to try the simulator again?” Jeb asked as he began to walk to his study. “Yeah!” Robert said as he leaped up and followed Jeb. “Now remember, you need to be easy with the controls at first, but once the plane’s got a good speed, you can do whatever.” Jeb told Robert as they walked into the study. Jeb heard Val mutter something that sounded like “Boys…..” ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Time: 09:05 Hours Location: Jeb’s office, Riverside, NSK Jeb sat down in the ‘Pilot’ seat, and pressed the power button. An old fashioned ‘KSC’ logo popped up on each of the three screens that gave the ‘Pilot’ a 180º view. “Dad?” Robert said as Jeb selected ‘Free flight’ mode. “What is ‘KSC’?” Jeb smiled. “You already know,” Jeb said. “Tell me the story again.” Robert said as he sat down in the seat. “Well,” Jeb started. “I was a pilot, and the KSC is where I worked. When I retired, they gave me this as a gift.” Jeb smiled. Robert chose his favorite plane, the M-13. “Now, remember-“ Jeb said, but Rob finished the sentence for him. “Don’t try maneuvers at low speeds, and don’t do maneuvers at mach 3.” He grinned. “I learned my lesson after the last week.” Robert flipped all the switches on the digital dashboard, starting the plane up. As soon as the plane got up to takeoff speed, Robert pulled the control stick back, and the plane took off beautifully. “Wo-oo-o-o-oooo!” Robert exclaimed when his seat shook as he did a loop. “Yeah!” Jeb said, seeing his son doing maneuvers that had inspired Jeb to become a pilot himself. Finally, after breaking his own speed record of 500m/s, Robert landed the plane with ease. “Yes!” Robert said as he got up from the seat. “Can I go again?” He asked Jeb, who shook his head. “You know the rules, 1 flight per weekend.” Robert groaned, and Jeb smiled at how similar Robert was to Jeb at a young age. “Why don’t you go help your mom,” Jeb said as he turned on his computer. “I’m sure that she could use help with the garden.” Robert walked out the door, and said, “Fine. And I’ll see if I can get you another cookie.” Jeb chuckled as he checked the news. However, his smile was immediately turned into a frown when he saw the latest military headlines. “Rebellion on Dystrios?” He muttered to himself as he clicked on the link. He was very confused. Dystrios was supposed to be a relatively peaceful nation. They were basically a satellite of the Eastern Empire; Too large to be considered a colony, and too small to be considered an independent nation. He decided to get on the simulator. He switched the user to JKerman102, and selected ‘Dogfight’ mode. He chose the M-13, which was his favorite of all the ones that he had flown, chose the amount of enemies that would be against him, and prepared to fly again. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Time: 09:15 Hours Location: Jeb’s Office, Riverside, NSK Jeb gave a few short breaths, before launching the plane. He saw 4 enemy targets with 2 ally craft, making the odds 4-3. However, with Jeb flying, it was more like 4-5. His plane lifted up nicely, and he began the fight. His allies managed to shoot down one of the enemy planes by taking off it’s wing. 3-3, Jeb thought as he zoomed into the engagement zone. His radar alerted him to someone closing up on his rear, and Jeb looped around. He fired the guns, and the enemy plane lost their engine and left wing. With the odds now 2-3, Jeb allowed the AI generated allies shoot down one very pesky plane that was just able to stay out of range of the ally craft. Jeb launched a couple of missiles, which eliminated the enemy with ease. Now, with just one plane left, Jeb flew like crazy, attempting to get to the last plane. He prepared to launch the remainder of his missiles at the enemy, but a missile came at the plane from above, and destroyed the craft by hitting it in the middle. Jeb landed the plane skillfully, panting just a little from the excitement of flying again. Whew, Jeb thought as he switched off the plane and got out of the simulator. Just as he stood up, his phone in his pocket buzzed, and Jeb saw the notification that was on the main part of the screen. NSK NEWS- BREAKING: Dystrios capital taken by rebels, War declared on NSK Jeb was shocked. He heard Valentina running through the house, and she burst into the office, panting. “Did you get it too?” She gasped, holding up her phone. Jeb nodded grimly. “I’m going to go take a walk for a bit,” Jeb said as he walked out of the room.
  14. The first of three installments of the Iron Horses series, and also my first story here anyway Enjoy, Kenji ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We wake up to the same sound every morning. Constant gunfire. The axis have pushed us back and we were the last ones, the last five left from our squad. We peer from the trenches to see the dust settle, the carnage that lay before me is nullifying. I couldn’t breath, freinds lay before me soaked in their own blood, I fell to the floor. Sarge pulled me up and we got back in the tank. We moved on as if nothing happened, it felt wrong, I stared at the floor in despair. “It’s not your fault” spoke a whisper, I look up to see Karl loading the next shell ready just in case, he repeated harsher this time, “It’s not your fault, look alive then” I started with a look of desperation at him, and simply said “How can I know on that we could have saved them?” He proceeded to ignore my question, maybe he thought it was rhetorical, but who cares anyway. He began to tell me a story about a mission in that he was the sole survivor due to a local taking him in and helping him recover, suddenly Ernst, The commander of the tank, turned and screamed “BRACE!” slamming the roof shut. It was then we were hit, a lone Panzer of in the distance had shot out the track, we fired back but to no success, we were out of Armour Penetration Rounds and only had High Explosive left, the second shell hit us and Ernst was flung from his seat into the tanks underlay, we were in grave danger. Our radio operator James was already on the lines calling for assistance, he flicked through the channels all to be dead, just plain silence. It all fell away in the blink of an eye. I knew, I knew what was to happen next, I was going to die here. I think we all knew it was our time. Time ceased as the third shot was fired, the tank was ablaze. Now I am the only one left, some time has passed but these scars may never heal. As I was dragged to the bomber I felt nothing, it was all a blur, where were they? Where was James? Where was Ernst and the other crew? The machinegun fire faded away and the humble whir of the bombers engines was all there was as I was flooded by medics and emergency personnel, I was loosing blood fast, as the plane dived to perform a landing I blacked out. We had landed in US soil and I was at last safe from harm, nothing could hide the nightmares I keep having as I see the massacre over and over, men cut down like butter to a hot knife, they fell to the MG fire of the Germans. I needed to go back. I needed to fight again. I was given the privilege much sooner than hoped and was back to the hangar within a week, as the new commander of my squadron I was the oldest and most experienced commander of the squad, and the only one to see combat. I felt a despair in my heart to see so many young men, I knew what lay ahead. We marched on and waited at the mouth of the Gulf and marched on to the desert, we were immediately met with enemy Panzer fire, we took cover to identify the primary targets, sure enough there it was! The prized Wüstenfuchs in his Tiger I tank, we crawled forwards slowly, a thunderous sound rang through the desert valley we had been spotted “M3 DOWN!” screamed Jacobs the Tiger had begun its assault, followed by its ensemble of Panzer VI’s. We fell like flies. We returned fire, “600 meters and counting commander!” I gave the order and we destroyed two of the six Panzer VI’s it was not met without consequence as the Tiger was beginning to flank the right as the other three Panzer VI’s flanked the right, the coms were wild, I begun to fade out and imagine back in France when I lost everyone “ORDERS COMMANDER!” exclaimed Jacobs, “Never back down advance and push forwards” I commanded the remaining tanks. We began our assault on the Tiger and managed to cripple its left track and before I could react the Tiger fired dead at the center of our right armour and dazed the crew, I couldn’t see anything just a blur of sand and steel, a sharp ringing in my ears, our gunner Reynolds was dead, I took his duty and unloaded a shell into a hull of a Panzer VI sending a flurry of shrapnel everywhere, we had the upper hand at last! I heard a ringing again getting louder and louder, the commander of the Churchill next to me screamed at me with the full force of his lungs “Stuka!” I look to the sky in horror, a haze of yellow and white screaming at me with the full power of its engine, they began their strafe of our light tanks, dropping bombs and firing their cannons, it looked grim. I saw the Tiger behind the rocks slipping away, “Load the damn gun Jacobs” and sure enough he loaded the cannon, I took a breath and time slowed, I squeezed the trigger releasing the shell full force into the ammo racks of the Tiger, it was no more. I had won. I clambered out of my tank and looked around, I was copied by the remaining tank crews. We rejoiced for now as we had won!
  15. So everyone, this is the story that really kicked off my writing career. The storyline is.......... Oh dear lord... But I've decided that you guys should see this in its true form. Prepare for many poor writing choices, a storyline with an equivalent that's worse than Twilight, and some quirky authors notes in between. Hope you all enjoy.... 16. Starbound Kerbal space program novel and AAR Prologue Kerbin is dying, slowly but surely she is fading away. We kerbals as a species only have ourselves to blame, the great war saw to that, how stupid were we to use atomic devices as weapons, true enough we were fully aware of the damage it would cause to city's and kerbals, but we completely overlooked the lasting damage it would cause to the planet. Well now we're paying for it. The war ended as soon as we realised our mistake but it was too late, the damage had already been dealt, at first it was the wildlife that succumbed to the toxic clouds. shortly after the vegetation began to disappear until all we was left with was a few hardy plants which had become poisonous to eat. Our thriving civilization became endangered quickly and millions died from starvation, we were soon about to be extinct. Then as luck would have it, fate decided to throw us a bone, the barren wasteland started to became greener, although not with trees, plants or grass. It was green algae. The algae had adapted and flourished, it was enough to sustain our greatly reduced population and in our underground hives we managed to carve out a new way of life, at least the future didn't look quite as bleak, There were some side effects to our new way of life, are skin turned from grey to green and our growth was stunted and we became shorter as a species but these were changes we could live with. For 50 years we lived in our hives and repopulated our civilization, we were no longer just groups of survivors any more, New nations appeared and we became a little like we used to be before the war. Now it seems we have a new problem, we're not sure if it was the radiation or the toxic clouds but something has changed how much oxygen the algae is producing. Out of the frying pan and into the fire, we've survived radiation poisoning and starvation, but it looks like suffocation might be our demise. Restrictions have been put in place to stop population growth but a more permanent and effective solution must be found. It was a scientist named Wernher Von Kerman who came up with a rather radical and risky solution. He announced that "instead of trying to fix a whole broken planet, it might be easier and less costly just to find another one". The idea was met with much criticism, but it was the only realistic idea we'd found. Kerbals had never left the planet or been in space, but we did have well proven rocket technology which had been used to deliver the nuclear weapons during the war, Wernher himself had designed much of the technology during the war as a young scientist. We spent 6 years building a new space center on the surface, in a moderately safe area of the equator for pursuit of our new goal and finally we were ready to explore the heavens.
  17. Heyya folks I've been a long-time forum-lurker, and finally got around to creating an account. I started playing way back in 0.19, and by 0.21 (still long before Career raised it's head) I'd decided that I needed something more concrete to keep my KSP going. I decided to start from scratch, and write down the stories of my successes (and failures) as they happened. The project grew, and grew, and GREW, and the page-count spiraled out of control. v0.22, then 0.23 came along, then 0.24 and 0.25, then 0.9's beta, then 1.0's release, and still the darned thing wouldn't end! Eventually, I just decided that I had to draw a line somewhere, and started editing, trying to trim back the page-count to something more manageable. And so, after many, many, many hours of blood, sweat, tears and asplosions, I'd like to present the chronicles of my Kerbal Space Program career for your (hopefully) enjoyment. It's been an EPIC ride, SQUAD. Thanks for an amazing game! Googledocs
  18. Hello, fellow kerbonauts, I've just finished writing the first chapter of a story, and would like a feedback on it. It's about the struggle of the humanity to survive on an alien planet, after the earth and all other colonies were wiped out. I hope my writing (and english, for that matter) are not too lousy, because I am not a professional author and I am not native english speaker, but I still hope that I'll entertain you for ten minutes, at the very least. Here's the link: http://www.inkitt.com/stories/48684 I'm looking forward to your feedback, whether positive or negative
