Recuring Slight Imperfection With Offset Tool (WHY I HATE KSP)

Recommended Posts

No idea if many people noticed this, but there's a weird glitch in ksp causing parts to have their center misaligned, in between 2 "pixels" of the offset tool (aka not straight, not repairable)

Please if someone knows a fix for it, share.

Right now it takes me more time to work around this issue than designing stuff..

Your pictures don't really show it, but it's possible that what you're seeing may be due to how the offset gizmo interacts with the angle snap option. The Offset gizmo will shift your part slightly when you enable it and it makes most parts initially in a "slightly-off" attachment state. You can avoid this by making sure that the angle snap option is disabled before you try to use the offset gizmo.

This is no graphical glitch, the tiniest allowed move isnt small enough to make them on the exact same spot, i just used antennas as a mean to make it easily visible

This is really a disgrace indeed both handling and look wise, especially if textures starts messing up together, it gets ridiculously out of control. Lol

I wont burn my PC tho hes too much of a binary requiem of perfect logic, how could i do that to such thing? xD

Thank you Kelderek! for this valuable intel.

The problem however still remains as certain parts (most mk2 tanks and the mk1 cockpit) have an attachment surface that isnt level.

t knowing where it comes from will help a great deal for future builds

Wait, you didn't explain this issue very well, is this about parts moving slightly when you try shifting them with the translation gizmo?

There's a hidden global grid that parts snap to, and while turning off anglesnap does help that's no help if you want anglesnap.

While messing with the gizmo, press F to swap from Absolute to Relative mode, the part will translate relative to its starting position and not the grid.

I thought you were talking about how the part was mirrored...

I thought this was going to be to complain about how radially attachable parts got shoved into the thing they were attached to (the TT-70s in particular are bad, they sink in about halfway and you can NOT gizmo them back out).

I can tell those two pictures are different, but I can't for the life of me tell why or which is "better."

Actually you are using the wrong option for offset, if you click on "Absolute" mode and than simply presso on one of the 3 arrow without moving it, the two antenna will be exactly in the same place (i've tried it about 20 seconds ago)

My game doesn't seem to have a graphics issue when offsetting pieces or I just dont care enough to see it? either way if that makes you hate the game wait until you run into the kraken or the memory leak crashs your game~

The only place I've found the gizmos useful (for now at least) is with wings. Moving them around has become easier, but you indeed have a point with the offset/rotate options moving the parts a bit from where they should be.

I had a problem with a mk3 cargo bay with a docking port junior I wanted to move farther into the ship, when I tried to move it an inch in any direction it jumped towards the left almost into the wall of the cargo bay. There were any other parts clipping at the time so I just resigned of moving it any amount and reset it.

If you only want to rotate it, you might want to use the old method though.
