Make a VTOL.

Make a VTOL, I recommend using Damned Robotics and C7\'s parts.

Goal: make the biggest/heaviest/fastest vehicle. It must safely land vertically, fly horizontally and behave as well as possible. It must not lose any parts in any moment of its operation. Anything else is an extra.

Submit, if possible, as a video

After extensive testing of the VTOL concept it became starkly obvious that vectored thrust in contact with any part of the aircraft is very bad news. Hence the vulture-like high wing.

It\'s probably not the biggest or fastest (188m/s at 1500m altitude on an empty fuel load), but it only uses the basic C7 pack. She flies pretty well and is capable of going to the Mun and back. I tried making a much larger version, but it wasn\'t stable on vertical take-off so this\'ll have to do for now.

On the other hand, yours requires RCS whilst in flight. Mine only needed it for landing assist to ensure it didn\'t flip.

And even then, on mine you only use the RCS when you see it start to tilt.

However, I don\'t see much style in it.

I don\'t get what the batteries and panels are good for on this craft. Maybe add the YE engine behind the cockpit, could be useful sometimes.

And I think it has style. Longer legs and it whould be the perfect aircrane ;D

The batteries are because I converted the engines to run off of electricity.. not realistic I know, but i was going for a ship that could actually fly like an extra-terrestrial ship, so I wanted more duration than the standard fuel tanks would give me.

But there\'s a thing some people are missing: it has to fly horizontally (as in the same orientation it takes off).

I made a Harrier like plane.

It\'s quite maneuverable too and can perform STOL.

However the draining of the RCS causes the center of mass to shift so you need to constantly adjust when in VTOL mode.

I don\'t think RCS is allowed; try getting robotic parts that can change the direction of thrust for a real Harrier-like plane.

Very nice SasquatchM.

Hint: you should be able to rotate the hinges around so they attach with their base instead of the top bit, that way the animations should look right.
