The ROUND8 memorial thread - UPDATE: It's alive!

No, Jeb would have flown onto the ROOF, and then taken the stairs.

Hey, if i found out that a fuel tank that fits perfectly with the 48-7S was about to be changed to a fuel tank that will power the usually-slow Ion engine, i'd be so angry, i wouldn't think via common sense!

The correct method is actually lobbying Squad to reconsider.

Or voting for fuel diversity in all tanks: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/115763-Let-us-choose-what-fuel-we-put-in-our-tanks%21

E: Might look like I'm rep/attention wh...ing all over the place, but this is something important and given enough attention it might become stock. It might end the fight over one silly tank and give us the freedom to choose fuel type in all of the tanks, which is the best option IMO.

We *could* manually repurpose any tank to carry anything. We are all aware of that, but it's not the point.

Well, if the stock game allowed us to change fillings of tanks in game, we would not have this whole "I need a 1.25 m Xenon tank but I can't be bothered to design another one, so let me just change one 1,25 m LFO tank that I don't particularly like into a Xenon tank" issue, right ? :D

This would probably be the "best" option, but it would require a lot more work on Squad's part to implement; work which they're unlikely to tackle at this point. Returning the round-8 to LF&O and either cloning it for xenon or appropriating another tank would be a more likely stopgap.

Particularly since Starwhip has already done all the work for them.

Best,

Why not just adding a silver Round8 for xenon?

I had no problem with previous design changes, like the space plane parts. The crafts were good looking and functional again after a few modifications. The only alternative here is the oscar-b, so design and appearance will change a lot. Backwards compatibility is broken.

Squad, "Just mod it back" is absolutely NO excuse, until you can explain why the workaround (Round8 LFO and Round8 Xenon) should be impossible or too hard.

Speaking of plane parts, I still have the Porkjet changes to the wings stuck in the throat. While the parts are prettier for sure, they are bigger and heavier than the previous counterparts for no particularly good stated reason AFAIK. The difference is not big for most parts , but I have a good bunch of planes stuck in the yard that became unable to fly as designed because of those changes :/

Jeez, you guys, just get the mod that keeps them the same in 1.0, easily done, just copy and rename the part titles, and you're good to go. Or do you gentlemen not use mods?

I, for one, do not, except for EVE and a couple of helpers like KER and Alarm Clock. I don't use part mods because I like to measure my ships (in a friendly way) against others' who also play with just stock.

As mentioned in my previous post, this is a very lame excuse for a developer, because you can get away with almost everything with that as long as the core game is more or less stable, stop developing the game and simply rely on modders to do the rest.

This is breaking backwards compability for absolutely no reason.

Mods can be incompatible with each other, stock components are not...

1. There are indeed people who don't use mods, or don't use part mods, etc

2. Various challenges and such usually only allow very short lists of mods (and often NO part mods), or no mods at all

3. Mods are often orphaned and released under restrictive licenses and thus die, leaving a constant scramble for updating and/or the possible craft-incompatibility of "rolling your own" etc.

4. See above re: phoning it in development wise

This goes beyond just a little doughnut tank, and into the problem that KSP is kinda lacking in the small-tanks department. People who grok Tsiolkovsky's equation understand that bigger is not better. Removing the Round8 basically makes the Oscar-B the ONLY sub-FL-T100 rocket fuel tank... we need more tanks in that range, not LESS!

(I'm not opposed to Xenon tanks appearing, but not at the cost of LF/O tanks, especially considering the lifter-class xenon engines and #lolsolar of KSP is one of the fundamental #lolsokerbal problems)
