Squadcast Summary for 2015-04-18 - Picture Perfect Edition!

The new resource and the resource system are meant to be highly moddable.

Yeah, but a quote by Maxmaps made it sound like Squad themselves had more plans for it. "Ore is the building block of something larger we shall work for in the future... ore will do a lot of stuff in the future, but for now ore gets turned into anything you desire."

Epic win parts update.

I especially love those slanted intakes (my new Tri-Fighter V is so going to use those instead of the not so pretty ram intakes).

Also, any word on whether parts such as fuselages will be reentry heat shielded? I think for gameplay's sake it is best to have the MK-2 fuselage and similar stuff heat shielded, same with many cockpits. The new heat shields are neat, but they arent exactly useable for most of my builds, since well, i tend to make SSTOs and aircraft (a giant circle would look funny on a plane).

Still, im quite happy with whats been done sofar, especially the performance improvements.

Question about resources: can the ore be made into just LFO, or can i say pull xenon out of it (xenon would be neat as i can not only have 20000 dV, but also have that replenisheable).

Hopefully jets dont get nerfed to the point that they are barely superior to rockets, i kinda enjoyed the whole suborbital on just a single jet engine.

Did anyone catch the part about ore just being all-purpose for now? Right now it can be turned into anything, but that may not be the case later? I'd noticed when they first showed off the narrow-band resource scanner that there was a part that said "Resource: Ore" as if perhaps there could also be other resources. Pretty excited about that. I'm hoping they add a resource that can be collected and turned into life support!

Kind of - that Resource = Ore thing is more to do with the fact you can mod in other resources (like Water or Propellium etc). There's just one stock resource, Ore, that is multi functional. Up to you to add and change things around to be able to mine and convert LOX into breathable air. By all accounts, it's trivial to do so, can probably expect such a mod within a day or so of 1.0 release.

I do remember Max saying that maaaaaaybe Engineers will be able to build stuff outside of the VAB..

Think in one of the dev Tuesday notes. It was mentioned that the resouce managment would be highly modable. Just that they felt one was good enough and kept it simple too.

OK, so far I see (in order of appearance in the gallery):

- Stuff!

- And NTF stuff with a drill? Maybe just a really aggressive flag planting...

- Intake stuff!

- Seriously cool heatshield stuff

- Fairing stuff!

- Probey stuff

- Xenon stuff where I'd put docking stuff

- Openy-shutty stuff!

- Menu stuff (yawn)

- Really hideous tiny jet plane stuff

Just what I like to see in any update, stuff and things! Shenanigans to follow.

this is what we need as fairing separation

OK, fair enough... but where are they going to attach the strings during flight? The whole thing will look like an Ed Wood production, minus Tor Johnson (I hope).

Cr-cr-cr-craa-craft thumbnails? Craft... thumbnails. CRAFT THUMBNAILS!!!! WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN? Ten out of ten, ten outta ten, it's a mastapeece, amazing.

Also, thank god that those first contracts get auto accepted/completed. It was really annoying to limit launches in .26, and more so with limited contracts in .90.

About the cargobays, they appear to have a floor and ceiling which would prevent stacking, am I seeing that right?
Thankfully. That's one thing I hated about the 6S compartments, trying to get stuff to radially attach inside them was a real pain because they had no floor. If you need bigger, an interstage fairing is likely what you want.

Floor and ceiling are your main attachment surfaces. because the doors are so large there's not enough meat to attach to without causing issues (and their colliders are noattach). There are a pair of attachment points on the side - but only on the exterior wall. I'm a big fan of the floor/ceiling attachment.

Actually now that i think about it, i think ist about time to go pure xenon with my fleet (capital ships aisde, im NOT putting 300 ion engines on a 300t ship). Now that we get a larger tank, i can actually pull off some really nice SSTOs with that.

All id love is a 1.25m ion engine to go along with it, while ions work perfectly fine even on 20t ships (with you spam enough of em), the sheer part count starts to go through the roof (even when i modify massless batteries to hold more electric charge in them). Hopefully the new xenon tanks will let me at least cut down on the 20-50 xenon tanks most of my ships currently have.

Good job on those models btw. I didn't know you did models, I always thought all your Karbonite ones were donated by the community.

Were you inspired by the Universial Storage mod? Seems like it.

It's just the lander legs that were done by someone else I think, for Karbonite. And maybe a few drills.

All of the FTT and MKS/OKS stuff are his own models.

Well, good to know. That's the first mistake I ever made in my life.

And hold on, craft thumbnails! Awesome!

But how are they generated, with something like KVV?

When I see a craft thumbnail for a Whackjob® craft, then I will be impressed!

Nope, I was more thinking 'low profile cargo bay to shove lots of little bits in' ;) I thought US was all about the wedge attachments tho?

Actually for Karbonite it's mostly Nertea (drill, tanks, converters) and nli2work (engines, small Rover parts).

Plus a few others (SpeedyB, Kravity, etc.) - the only part I made in Karbonite was the scanner

Im guessing if the New Aero is fully configurable, you can possible make the 0.90 souposphere from the 1.0 Aero.

I hope not!

Its such a drag to have so much drag, especially when its so high that you can more or enter kerbin's atmosphere at 100km/s, aiming right at its middle, and slow down to less then 200m/s before impact. This is a joke. At least the reentry (or so i hope) will be plausible but not too limiting when it comes to aerobraking on SSTOs.

Those new parts look absolutely phenomenal. The heat shields for instance could have simply been a black disc, but were given an interesting brass-colored surface with tiles instead.
