"Duna, Ore Bust!" -- a KSP Graphic Novel (COMPLETE)

Recommended Posts

Just came across this thread today and read it all in one go. Absolutely fantastic and really brings back the urge to load up KSP again.

I'm loving the ships so far. Any chance we can get some detail on the Hummelbee and the Pogo? Maybe a craft file or two?

Thank you! Actually I've been meaning to start a Kerbfleet ship thread in Spacecraft Exchange for a while now. Pogo will likely go up first, along with the Gliido LF-only SSTO. I may save Hummlebee until after the mission, I don't want you to know ALL her secrets :)

Welcome back Kuzzter, glad you had an enjoyable vacation. Nice little snap of "Eve and Jool," I wouldn't have been able to get them both in frame the last time I looked over those roof tops. Looking forward to the continuation of the series.

Welcome back, Kuzzter :) I guess Bill can't help it - he really likes Ike :D

He does! Who wouldn't? And it's a callback to second panel of this post, of course.

So the bad news is that updates in this thread are going to slow down a bit... the GOOD news is that it's because I've decided to start up the Eve mission comic and run it concurrently with this one! You may recall a bit of a prologue featuring Bob, Clauselle, Dilsby and others... anyway, I've been launching Eve ships while Hummlebee mines Ike, and the flotilla is now on its way out of Kerbin SOI. Look for the Eve stuff to start appearing in a new thread soonish!

I almost couldn't either, I should have taken a photo from NY the week before when they were closer. By the way that shot was made with a Lumix micro four thirds digital body with an old-school Pentax 200mm/f2.8 (legacy of my film darkroom days) mounted on an adapter. Closest thing to a telescope that would fit in my luggage :D

I know the feeling exactly :D for a while a secondhand Konica Minolta Hexanon-AR 300mm F/4.5 was the best "telescope" I owned. Anyway, now that the smell of fix is flooding unwanted back into my memory I'll let the thread get back on track

Suborbital on airless body? Big deal - i'm doing it all the time on Mun and Minmus. If you remember to get inside before the contact with the surface, you are as safe as in orbit. And it's quite thrilling experience :D My Scientists are adrenaline junkies

Oww, indeed :D How much G's your VTOL engines can do?

It's less than 1, but more than enough for Duna or Ike. Here's a clear shot of the Hummlebee's belly:

Looks like 33 Vernor engines, each with 12kN for a total of 396. Of course they aren't all pointed straight down, so maybe call it 380 or so. Ship mass is 58t fully loaded, and about 30t dry, so that makes it .7g to 1.3g.

Naughty Bill! I didn't know the bumblebee had a distiller as well.

Or did he just ghetto one together, appollo-13 style?

Oh, it's DOB canon that any refiner can make ethanol, in the right (wrong) engineer's hands. :D

And hey, I finally got around to posting the Pogo that Gregmore and Clauselle took to orbit. Will follow up with other ships eventually including the famous Hummlebee.

Flex after engine shut off will shoot you up. Bang comes right and lower then the VTOL jets so it is safe to assume it comes after due to comic time compression and not wanting to do multiple panels that can fit in one ;)
