Please explain this orbit

Ok, so here I\'m approaching Mun.

In the first screenshot you can see that it predicts that my ship will make a sharp 90deg turn.

Screenshot 2 - almost there.

Screenshot 3 - Yes, i\'m now travelling in the predicted direction.

Sorry if I don\'t find this believable. I don\'t think it\'s possible for objects to suddenly, completely, change direction when under the influence of of gravity-wells.

The encounter of another body in space should happen gradually.

Am I wrong?

The yellow means what your orbit will look like in relation to the object\'s SOI you will get within, so when you enter, your general velocity will not severely change in an unrealistic matter.

Alternatively, for a more intuitive (for some) view, you might try changing the Patched Conics display mode in settings.cfg (i think the default is 1; try 2 or 0)

The Mun will continue to move. If you were to map your position relative to Kerbin it would look better.

Remember that the Mun/moon is moving around Kerbin while you move around it. Basically, as you travel around the Mun, that yellow line shows your trajectory when including the Mun\'s velocity around Kerbin.

In your settings.cfg file, change the CONIC_PATCH_DRAW_MODE = 0 to CONIC_PATCH_DRAW_MODE = 3. Should be a bit easier to interpret.
