DevNotes: "something rather brilliant from RoverDude"

I'm not bringing the HypeTrain out for a rebalancing patch. Even if it has a seeeecret feature. I'll let a HypeBus or something take it.

But I've got no time right now to build a HypeBus. The HypeTrain to teh rescue!

Sounds like the Hypetrain has been superseded by the Hype-Tuctuc.

Dropping convoluted hints like this days (which might actually be weeks/months) before a release is frankly idiotic. Squad should get real and start having adult conversations with the community regarding features and release schedules.

Yes I'm a party pooper on this - I'm ok with that. If the community is a valued asset, then feeding it with disinformation or easily misconstrued data should be considered a violation of trust.

Based on comments in the most recent Squadcast, 1.0.3 is in testing while the developers are in their second week of vacation. IF nothing needs serious tweaking and another round of testing and adjusting (which I'd encourage them to do, considering the complexity of the parts aero/heat balance effort,) I think we could see the patch toward the end of next week.

Could the model be modified with an additional "Keep out!" collider, or visual geometry? (It seems that the safe placement area is a box inside a cylinder. Players do want to try stuffing everything that they can, in the available cylinder space that they see. If the 'unsafe areas' were blocked off, even if just visually, it might reduce some of the support calls.) At the least, what about a yellow/black dashed construction-tape-line added to the texture, to demarcate the "safe / unsafe" areas?

Why do these colliders need to check for intra-vessel collisions, unlike (almost?) all the other colliders? I always considered that as the service bay bug.

I think it's more that the last few times they dangled a secret in front of your nose, it turned out to be totally underwhelming in the end. Destructible buildings... burned out cars in a trailer park (and badly rendered burned out cars at that, next to an observatory right out of an MGM cartoon)... swirling dust at takeoff... can't say that the Drestroids light my fire, but of all the "we're not gonna tell ya" small things, they've been far and away the best.

It's all OK.

As far as Roverdude's contribution, I feel confident it will be good.

He's a supernova in a sky of KSP stars.

EDIT: not to say he is exploding to his death, but , errrr... well... you get it... bright star etc...

Didn't RoverDude mention ages ago that he was working on a stripped-down version KAS at some point?

I'm sure he mentioned it in relation to Karbonite.

My money's on the fuel pipes.

I need to see the link to the post mentioning this.

I need to see the link to the post mentioning this.

Mentioned briefly here:

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79588-1-0-2-USI-Kolonization-Systems-%28MKS-OKS%29-%280-30-3%29-2015-05-22?p=1157919&viewfull=1#post1157919

However, that isn't the post I'm thinking of. Pretty sure I read something more substantial... just can't remember where.

Nonetheless, it'll be 'dem pipes.

I dunno, I think the guessing games and speculation is fun :) Both as someone fueling it, and someone speculating on it.

RoverDude, seriously love your work, but I can't get on board with this kind of point of view, especially after HarvestR's little "Speculation leads to disappointment" lecture a few months ago.

A simple start, on par with heat shields, that modders can greatly extend... fuel pipes would fit the bill better than most anything else I've seen mentioned in here.

Awwwww yissss... CSI: KSC. Thanks a lot for digging that info out!

I'm more and more convinced my assumptions are accurate.

Stock land trains

stock diesel electric transmission?

KsC2 turns into KTC Terminal with engine sheds, fuel tanks and ore processing for ore trains

Just a thought, perhaps it's bigger landing legs? I've seen numerous posts showing that they use the massive plane landing legs for large craft because they're bigger and sturdier. A bigger set of landing legs could come in handy here.

Still hoping like hell for fuel pipes. The inability to transfer fuel easily from holding tanks on a base to a nearby landed craft is one of the big things that's been stopping me from making planet-based refeuling stations

Fuel transfer on the ground isn't impossible with stock parts... Put a big tank on wheels, with The Claw.

Putting The Claw on anything is like placing the vessel on a sacrifice altar for the Kraken.
