KSP Easter Egg In Another Game

So, I was playing Elite Dangerous ... and this happened ...

Given Elite Dangerous is an MMO, isn't it just as likely that's another player? Or is there some identifier to say it's an NPC which I'm not recognizing?

Other players always have the 'CMDR' tag on the front of their names. This Jeb Kerman is an NPC, and one I've seen myself, too.

There are also NPC pilots (which Jeb seems to be, as player pilots always have "Cmdr" in front of their name).

But a certain amount of funding for the game allowed players to submit a name on their own for inclusion into the E: D NPC name database.

I guess this is what happened here ... i.e. that one Backer who is also a KSP player paid enough to be allowed to submit an NPC name and then submitted "Jebediah Kerman" as NPC name.

But there is a real (i.e. implemented by the game devs) KSP easter egg in another game:

In a lonely corner of one space station you can find a Kerbal doll

I just started playing Elite Dangerous last week (havent played in the last couple days), and I've already seen a Kerman. I dont remember the first name.

I don't play Elite, but When binge watching Youtube videos, usually starting with a bunch of Danny videos for laughs and then progressing to some more serious Scott Manley videos, I started watching one of Manley's Elite video's, and I think he mentions Jeb as an NPC.

The names in Elite Dangerous were chosen by people who bought into its crowdfunding at the right level. This isn't a CMDR so it isn't a player, but it is likely chosen by a player who was also a fan of KSP.

Anytime you want to play, let me know, but I'm a bit rusty, I haven't even played since PowerPlay dropped. Right now the game seems a little too grindy, that's why a stopped, but hopefully that will improve.

Same here - I was convinced to purchase it by a friend when it was on sale on Steam ... it took a lot of time to learn how the game works, but I am glad I stuck with it because I am having a great time now!

I just got into Elite[noparse][/noparse] too!! and yeah, about 2 hours to get to grips with the controls, customize and tweak them till I was happy (which turns out was setting up several things to match KSP commands; shift+ctrl for throttle control, x for hard cut of engines, z for full throttle).

Not found any Kerbals in the game yet (although I signed up as Katateochi Kerman, just CMDR Katateochi in game though), but I did have contract to hunt down and slaughter Zap Branigan! I think if I get a contract to hunt Jeb I might have to refuse it, well...unless the pay is particularly high!

I'm over in Independent space atm (had to sign up with the Independents, cos...Firefly).

We should all wing up as the KSP-Elite!

(and can I just say to the mods of this forum; THANK YOU for not setting up this forum in black! I know, space theme and all that, but the Elite Forum is just nasty to look at after getting used to this one!)

Too bad X:Rebirth itself was such a monumental disappointment as an X fan...
