WW2 BAD-T - World War 2 BDArmory AI Dogfight Tournament [FINISHED]

Recommended Posts

While jet battles are indeed cool you should check out Wanderfound's tournament for those.

I think that I will focus on piston monoplanes for the next BAD-T, unless someone else wants to run the other battles, in that cass I could set up the rules etc.

Yes maneuverability won, but that was mainly an AI thing, you will notice that the Maelstorm only died when it flew straight.

I would actually be interested in building a Juno-powered aircraft, but AJE would probably be needed for those. If the jet battles were held separately from prop planes I would definitely participate in that.

So we are not going to use AJE, the new AI does not like to conservate energy.

Instead the engines will receive tweaks and will be distributed on a pack dedicated for this challenge, that makes things much simpler to handle.

Unless KSP 1.1 comes in a hurry (which is unlikely), we are not going to wait for it.

Think about it like this, after this update almost every mod is expected to break, and people will want to play with the new version.

While we wait for the mods to update and everyone to have fun with stock KSP, I run the battles :)

Edit: Something worth mentioning is that the next BAD-T version will have a small classificatory step, your airplane will be required to destroy a target in order to classify.

This is to make sure the airplanes are on a decent flight condition.

The main concern was that contestant aircraft would be able to takeoff from the one arena you specially requested, with the short runways, but surprises are nice. Surprise it is! :)

But, to be fair: Contestants - For tetryds' convenience when setting up battles, it might be a good idea to note in the description of any submitted craft whether or not it can take off in 260 meters or less.

Okay so engines are pretty much ready, that was faster than I expected.

I am only finishing rebalncing explosive cannons since it seems that they do not deal kinetic damage anymore.

Then it's put the pack together, release and you will be able to start playing around :D

I really would like to take part in the next edition but my replicas were built in Realism Overhaul:

I thought it was a screenshot from another game for a sec. Nice P.11 you got there.

@winged those are amazing replicas, I haven't ever seen anything like that.

I also made some just for demonstration so I didn't go after the real stats nor anything like that.

It's awesome to see more replicas that also use FAR and AJE.

This tournament, however, is meant to be fun, and the AI does not handle low twr too well so we are going to use some overpowered engines.

I wonder what can you do with the ball turret we are about to release.
