US Air Force launches a new SSTO

Hmm, this probably belongs in the space lounge, but anyway, my reading of it is that it's not a SSTO. It carries an upper stage that boosts itself into orbit after the plane gets it as far as it can go. That's two stages to orbit. Nevertheless, this is interesting and exciting news

Sounds like a regular spaceplane, like the x37. Cool article though. Ive read about the x37 but didnt hear of the new contract.

The XS-1 is more like the Dream Chaser than an SSTO. It will be the first stage in a multi-stage rocket. If they could couple it with a Falcon 9 launch stage (assuming it ever lands successfully) it will be very cheap like an SSTO though.

It's cool, but now an SSTO. I like the confept, 5 mil for a small sat, they can boost up to geostationary from the shuttle and have lots more, cheaper sats.
