I said it in some other thread, but I will say it again: If the old one is going to be kept I want it to be redone X-1 or Ar234.

It might be silly for it to be full glass, but think about VTOLs. And it would also look awesome. I don't expect it to happen, tho.

Some kind of high visibility cockpit would be very nice, seeing as none of them currently have any view below the horizon.

I'll repost here the idea that I had before - keep the old Mk1 cockpit but turn the lumps on the sides into small air intakes. Someone else suggested removing the reaction wheels to compensate, and that seems fair. That way there's a reason to use or not use it.

Why would a capsule have air intakes, and what use would it be without reaction wheels? Just what we need with the current "all planes" focus, to take a capsule away and sprinkle some pixie dust on it.

The nose should stay, the hatch should be on top.

What's the point in the cockpit not being pointy? What do you want to put in there instead of the nose cone?

You clearly didn't read my thread before you voted or replied.

Let me quote the first line:

Removing the built in nosecone on the new mk1Cockpit model and replacing it with a 0.625m node would enable players to use the already stock 0.625m nosecone, as well as all small probe parts, the avionics pack, the mk16 parachute, the junior docking port, science equipment, and communication dishes and equipment in it's place. It would allow further compatibility with other parts, and come at a relatively small cost to backwards compatible craft, the aesthetics of the part, CoM, and the size of the windows.

You've gotta read man!

Putting the hatch on top would be a complete nuisance for planes.

Why? I can easily imagine the hatch to be blown off and the pilot ejected throught the hole in case of trouble. Unless we're talkin ground service here.

I just did some speedy editing because I was curious as to what the cockpit would look like on an older design of mine. Voila:

I stretched the old cockpit to the length of the new model. I've gotta say I do look forwards to planes being pointier. Regardless of a new nosecone or not :P

Ladder placement. To be honest the position we've see is *also* likely to be a nuisance for ladder placement - though redesigning the ladders would solve that.

Real jets don't have a hatch in that position but have "air stairs" with a built-in ladder. On the Learjet, there is a large door on the side which opens as a clam shell and where the bottom section turns into the stars to get on board the aircraft.

The nose gear isn't really far off the ground there, though.

Hey, you aughta have a look at this unofficial trailer for 1.0.5. Someone obviously has an experimental version of it and it shows an avionics cone on the front of the cockpit.

Awww....

You got my hopes up for a minute. But if you look closely, he clipped an NCS adapter.
