Mitchz95
Sounds fine to me. They are an airliner manufacturer, after all.
Robotengineer
"Starliner"Meh!Boeing has the worst naming department. SpaceX has the Dragon and Falcon 9, and Boeing has the 'Starliner' and Vulcan.
Cydonian Monk
The name makes perfect sense when you consider Boeing has been calling things *liners since the 30s. That doesn't mean I like it.....
benzman
'Starliner' is no different to 'astronaut', which translates from the Greek to 'star sailor'. Nobody expects either to actually go to the stars.
PB666
'Starliner' is no different to 'astronaut', which translates from the Greek to 'star sailor'. Nobody expects either to actually go to the stars.Easy enough done, take the capsule, apply a dV of about 18000 m/sec, heading orbital retrograde, when it crashes into the sun, it has officially travelled to a star. I kind of recommend a heat reflector though, it would kind of melt before reaching its target.
FishInferno
Starliner sounds like a commercial airliner more than a spacecraft, especially coming from a company who's main business is aircraft.
Kibble
Well...it's better than CST100.
Glaran K'erman
Starliner...wow what a horrible name. I actually prefer CST100!
fredinno
You can call it both, I think. The full name is CST-100 Starliner.
MajorLeaugeRocketScience
Uhh why we cant have something like "Big explosive thing that carries people to orbit on top of a updated ICBM"? At least it would be honest. And btw Dragon V2 is way better, this thing is basically a copy of the original Orion
Karriz
I don't mind the name, and I'm definitely excited to see this flying. It's not quite as flashy as Dragon but hopefully it'll be a part of the future's LEO infrastructure.
Kibble
Dragon V2 is way betterWhy?Also Atlas V shares no components or component legacy with the Atlas missile.
fredinno
That's like saying Gemini was a copy of Mercury, and the chineze space capsule (the name slips me) is a copy of Soyuz.

ComradeWolfe
Thanks Boeing... Now I have this lovely image of a small business jet being attacked by a dragon. In space.Or alternately, isn't that what Xenu used to shuffle thetans around with in Scientology?(Starliner? Really?)
fredinno
Make the proposed X-37C, and rename it Independence. Put a bunch of Oil drillers on both spacecraft, and make them blow up a NEO. You know, for science.
Shpaget
The only appropriate name: FreedomWhy would that be the only appropriate name?In fact, why would it be appropriate at all?
Kibble
The Chinese capsule is a copy of Soyuz.Shenzhou is actually an entirely unique design, simply borrowing the basic configuration of the spacecraft, and aerodynamic characteristics of the capsule. PTNLemay
Starliner is a bit pompous, I find. "Star" should be reserved for spacecrafts that will actually travel beyond our solar systems (heading to new star-systems, thus earning the "star" moniker). Skyliner could have worked. Dodgey
Am i the only one who actually likes CST-100 as a name? The same goes for SLS for me. Honestly i don't really see the point for a name unless it is there from the get go.Edit. Sorry mitch just saw your post. rodion
so, it's too late to suggest "Space Bus"?

Honestly i don't really see the point for a name unless it is there from the get go.Edit. Sorry mitch just saw your post. The name is "CST-100 StarLiner". You know, like a "787 DreamLiner" or "F-22 Raptor", "F-35 Lightning II", "C-17 GlobeMaster III", "UH-60 BlackHawk", etc... Those monikers don't serve much purpose anyway. They are really only used in marketing material and in the media. You'll never see a pilot refer to an F-16 as a Fighting Falcon or an air-traffic controller use the name DreamLiner for a 787. Kryten
Shenzhou is actually an entirely unique design, simply borrowing the basic configuration of the spacecraft, and aerodynamic characteristics of the capsule. There's some Russian engineering in there, but it was brought in well after the design process had already started.
