Being able to set the main control module from editor

When working with ships that have multiple pods, I get highly annoyed when I suddenly find that the controls of the ship are pointing at a different direction, and the only thing I can do is set "Control From Here" to the main pod pointing correctly.

However this is highly tedious, and I feel that an easy way to get around this would be being able to set the root of control from the editor, maybe part of the tweakables of command pods. That way, even if all pods are filled with Kerbals, the game would know which one to control from, and multiple-pod ships (Say, WWII bombers) won't get out of control when multiple pods are used pointing at different directions.

What do you guys think?

Totes agreed. It should be a secondary function of the Root tool. Every time you "make root" a part with a control module, that part becomes the default control module.

Isn't this already the case? If the root part is a control module then the default control is calculated from that point.

Well, honestly.. I can't recall.

But either way, the main control center doesn't have to revolve around parent parts.

I can't tell WHAT sets the default control, except that if it's the first thing you put down that's it. Seems semirandom what happens after you delete that or reroot. I'll admit, I haven't tested it in any way.

A thousand times this. I hate having to peek inside a craft to set the control module.
