Mission Museum in upgraded Admin building

Recommended Posts

I'm still a noob, having only played the game on and off for about a year (since ... the one before 0.90 ...0.25?), and haven't done more than a few hundred launches in any one game, so maybe this idea is impractical. Anyway, here it is for your consideration.

Snapshots: it would be cool to have a place in the game to look at, organize, caption, and maybe post them to image-sharing places.

What I propose is that the first upgrade to the Admin building adds on a Mission Museum, where you can do these things.

The sales pitch:

For players, it gives a reason to go into the Admin building more than once or twice a game, and adds another facet to an already fascinating game.

For Squad, it makes it easier for people to spread word of mouth about the game (the "post them to image-sharing places" bit). I know that a lot of current players are already quite happy to delve into the Snapshots folder outside of the game, and edit and post snapshots manually, but making it easier can't hurt -- especially when the game is ported to consoles.

I would like to have a chart that would show major breakthroughs, rep, money, your crew deaths, first landings, first orbits, records, etc. If you've ever played Cossacks (or any RTS involving some sort of economy) you'll know what I'm talking about.

You mean mission stats, with diagrams? That'd be awesome! R+

In addition to steam?
Some player's don't use steam.
Yeah. Except for the whole career and not just a single mission.

Steam is not in game, that's what is being asked for.

Honestly? I like the idea a lot. I take plenty of screenshots, and never once look at them.

This would provide some great opportunities to tie in with an improved career mode. Complete certain milestone contracts and a model of the craft used ends up in the museum. A few general purpose displays (with editable plaques) where you can choose the craft file would be great as well.

Hey, this thread woke up while I was trying to crack the password on my wife's dictation machine (she knows, she wants me to crack it! :) )! Cool!

Some people are saying "you can already do that". Yes, that's right, you can, if you are motivated enough. But making it easier and more fun, more in-game, will mean that more people do it. And that can only be good, right?

And besides, Walt has to have something to do in that fancy hazmat suit of his. PR doesn't seem to be stretching him at present. He can be the tour guide/curator for the museum.

Rather than having the museum a part of the Admin Building I'd prefer to have a dedicated Visitor Complex that would display:

- Milestones / achievements / records (e.g. first Kerbal to go to space, highest altitude, longest duration flight, heaviest craft launched)

- A Hall of samples collected from various biomes and celestial bodies (e.g. beaker of liquid from Laythe's oceans, Munar rock sample)

- A Hall of vessels and crafts

It would also be nice to have players control a generic visitor Kerbal in third-person view to walk around the various exhibits, which would be much better than simply listing them on a page.

Sounds cool,

perhaps it should display a list of done missions, showing at least the craft and where it went to. after which the player can add screenshots and maby even descriptions

Small-scale models of the ships that made the journeys? Might be a memory nightmare, but maybe not if no functionality is being calculated and it JUST uses the part models.

These would all be great. My thinking was that a simple "photo album" for snapshots would be quite easy (cheap and quick) for Squad to implement. (Hopefully there's something already done in Unity which they could re-skin and drop in.) And it would add something to the game straight away.

So yeah, it would be great to have it evolve into a Visitor Complex/proper museum over time. Now if we could just get Squad to take the first step...

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
