FASTCORP Garage

Real Cars for KSP

 

FASTCORP is back to present to you: Cars!

These cars are real-life cars usable by Kerbals in KSP. They are separated by body and wheels, and aim to function like SFR Car mod from waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in 0.23.

These cars are a WIP.

Vehicles

Currently, there are 3 vehicles, 1 of which are available to download and 2 which are not. Vehicles use a custom resource, "Gas", that should have realistic values in terms of MPG and range.

Warning: Common (more or less game-breaking) issues of the vehicles are:

  • Wheels become un-selectable after launch. (Why does this happen?)
  • Orientations
  • Wheels "shift" in position from transition from SPH to Runway. (This could use help as well)

1984 Corvette C4

A C4 Corvette with the engine removed to save on some polygons. Orginally for GTA:SA, converted to KSP. Model author: DeLorean83

Make sure that in the SPH, the darker part of the wheel rim faces to the BACK on the LEFT, and FORWARD on the RIGHT.

Features

  • Full interior
  • RPM TransparentPod support with ModuleManager (Recommended to see your Kerbals)
  • KIS support with ModuleManager
  • Reach speeds of 70m/s (speed curve is an attempt at realistic values)
  • 2 seats
  • License plate FlagDecal
  • Wheels can be broken

Planned/Issues

  • Headlight raise/lower animations (partially implemented but not included in download)
  • Proper KSP interior (right now the interior is part of the external model, so layering is a bit off)
  • Toggleable Lights (I can't get these to work, if someone could lend a hand that would be great)
  • Colour switching with InterstellarTextureSwitch (It won't work, help is appreciated)
  • Because wheels are un-selectable, they can't be repaired after they break.

GMC A-Team (not included)

Humvee with MK19 Gun (not included)

Wow, I forgot about this thread! Guess I should follow it next time :D

I'll try and stockify it for 1.1. these are real sized so downscaling the models will be the next step, then textures.

I don't... these are all pre made, I just put them into KSP. My modelling skills aren't that great. But, for the conversion, I put them through Blender.

 

These are going to be remade for 1.1 because it's got the new shaders I've been waiting for, and I've got more experience, so no more broken wheels! Expect more soon!

Yep! there was going to be a total of 6 for the release before, but now I've got to remake those 6 for 1.1. Also, people are going to be able to request cars, and if I find a model for them, I'll put it in. :)

these don't work with 1.1. Wheels changed, so I've got to remake them.

 

I found a Subaru forester, I'll include it in the 1.1 package. (these new wheels are driving me nuts)

I have got some ideas for your cars here:                                                                                                                             Hyundai i30,Subaru Forester,Land rover,Tuk tuk, Jeep wrangler,Alfa romeo?! And a ferrari.:sticktongue:

Do you want any specific land rover models? any specific Alfa Romero models?

yes, I am hoping to make some contracts that will require you to race or something. I've also thought that they could be used to recover kerbals that are too close to fly but too far to walk, yknow? (for people that don't want to use the recover option, like me)

Good! the forester is not going to be included because I screwed up the model and I want this to be released so it's going to come later. I'm just finalizing and fine tuning the rest of the cars (finalizing internals and making sure everything is perfect) the cars should be out in a couple days.
