The Munar Crusade

Do I have to show the flight, and travel of each one? I mean the transport craft.

Nope. I'd like to see the launch vehicle, and some of the journey, and definitely some of the final stages, but photos are up to you otherwise.

Always wanted a badge, and this sounds like a fun little challenge. I like your approach  :)

Glad you like the challenge. Unfortunately I don't know how to award badges, and it might be awhile before I get on that. If someone could explain how to award badges, that would be great.

About to get started on this, but just one thing: How do I embed an imgur album?

I'm not sure how to embed an album (though I'm sure someone does) but I'm glad you're on board.

I'm super excited to see how all your missions come out.

Yesterday night I had a bit of time to spend on this. I decided to try something a bit crazy here: assemble a surface base in munar orbit and then (try to) land it in one piece. In the spirit of the crusaders the base will have a distinct shape. Don't know how successful the landing will be, but we shall see.

I started working on the base and then realized that I have no dropship that is big enough for this project, so I came up with the layout for a bigger lander. Stay tuned for The Crusader! I'm already quite fond of it and sacrificed some sleep for this.

How does this sound so far??

Expect pics once the weekend rolls in.

Will get the pictures up in a few hours, but mine turned out to be more of an invasion of the Mun by 2 superpowers than a crusade, and some bombing included as well...

First of all, this was on a slightly older version of KSP, as I already had the mods I wanted installed. Here are the mods I used: KW Rocketry, MechJeb, Kerbal Joint Reinforcement, and KSP Interstellar. Also, for some reason, the exhaust flames on KW Rocketry engines doesn't show up.

Ok, here we go:

After the Mun has mocked Kerbalkind for many years, the two superpowers on Kerbin, the USK (United States of Kerberica), and the UKSR (Union of Kerviet Socialist Republics) decide to come together to show the Mun a lesson. After building a new space center on Cape Baikaveral (get it?), they get ready for a massive space offensive. Here is how it went:

(I gave the link instead of embedding it, as when I tried to embed it it only gave me the version before I added the description to the images, not the updated version, as they have the same URL. Does anyone know how to embed albums the way it used to be done before?)

Two bases so far today. Would've been more but the other two crashed and then so did the game. Probably just as well, really; the first crash was bad enough to eject a considerable amount of wreckage into orbit.

Oh, well. Jeb is carrying 5 tourists up there in the KSS Prometheus as we speak to bankroll the next base.

This is absolutely mind-blowingly awesomely insane. It's also exactly what the original mission statement was asking for. You get all the Kudos. You also get a badge as soon as I make one. And I'll put you up on the Board of Crusaders.

A35K's Score:

2x multiplier for international cooperation,

96 Kerbals,

8 cluster bombs,

7 letters worth of acronyms,

and a 3x multiplier for the number of missions.

For a total score of: 555 Propaganda Broadcasts.

Thank you! By the way, if you were wondering what the huge fuel tanks on the "N1" were, they were procedural tanks from the stretchy tanks mod, which I forgot to add to my mod list.

Also, just a question, how do badges work? Will it be automatically added to my profile or will I have to insert it myself?

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it, it took quite a while! By the way, I had a lot of fun on this, it was a very good challenge, as it had a very vague goal, which is good as it leaves a lot up to the "challenger"!

I wasn't wondering what those tanks were, but I thought they were very impressive.

I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'll make sure you get extra credit. I didn't think it would occur to complete this mission in anything but sandbox. The whole point is to throw munny at the Mun.

Mun-Munny, get it? I wonder if that's what the Kerbal currency is...

Oh god. I've gone off topic.

Anyways, good luck!

Here I was thinking that dropping a Tsar Bomba on the Mun would be enough... And then I found this thread. Space Station, HERE I COME!!!

Actually, this might tie in with the ending of my first year playing KSP. And yet, I still believe that Jool and Eeloo is too hard.

I have absolutly no clue how badges work IF SOMEONE COULD TELL ME THAT WOULD BE GREAT but I'll subtly suggest that someone explain them because I'd really like to be able to award them.

I've been playing KSP for about a year now and I haven't yet attempted to build a space station. I just made it to Jool though. This challenge was intended to suit players at our level; we're good enough at the game that we want to be challenged, but not quite good enough that we can go to Jool and back with six parts like most other challenges want us to. (I haven't actually seen a Jool challenge asking for a six part ship, that was just hyperbole.)

Well, you see, badges are really just pictures that you piut into your signature that signify you have comepleted a challenge, like the K-prize, or the Jool-5, or the Elcano. I'll be happy to explain more via PM, as well as make a badge if you have an idea.

Do two of these count?

swMdDgh.png
Planning to turn them into missle launching silos. I'll have a few "targets" around the area for them to hit.

They're going to be on the surface, and when all of them are launched, I will send the missle-less lander off the surface, and crash it. There's a reason why there are warheads on the top ;)

My Crusaders built their surface base in munar orbit, from parts delivered by 3 launches. I have a trusty old RCS tug known as the PuffPuff and a dual joystick setup, but ferrying and docking base elements between 3 free floating crafts was more challenging than you'd think. I had a lot of fun and it turned out okay, and now for the landing! Now the big Crusader cargo dropship just arrived and docked to the base to land the whole structure in one piece. Looking forward to this.

Expect pics soon!

So many replies, so little time. I'll keep my responses short. (For my sake not yours, in case you thought I was being magnanimous; I need to sleep eventually.)

So... ...a Munar cruise missle network? Sounds good.

So I'm kinda liking this challenge ... After I'm done with Dres I may have to show the Mun who's boss
and show all of Kerbal kind how much animosity I have towards her

It sounds like you've got the spirit of this challenge well in hand. We'll be glad to have you.

So, after a strange bug with RT and ScanSat, my space station is destroyed, so it's time for plan B: a refueling lander capable of going to the Mun then to Minmus.

Unfortunately that won't count for this challenge. It's purely focused on the Mun. I wish you the best of luck with your landings.

If you finished your station (around the Mun I'm assuming) that's a different story altogether...

Great! I'm glad you had fun, and I'm excited to see how things turned out. I love your mission plan by the way.

Yeah, I finished it and then I went to scan the Mun for resources and it broke the save. I have pics of the individual modules if you want them. It is just a science station but was going to include some fuel for refueling.

I really do want to say that a science station is enough, but this challenge is about mastering Munar travel, and unless it's a really, really big station it doesn't qualify for those criteria. Sorry. Again, best of luck with your two-stop mission.
