Flight data recorder / instant replay

Recommended Posts

I'm talking about something that records a flight in a data format within KSP that would replay it within the game. From that, one could use Fraps or similar to record actual video. Sort of like what Flight Simulator X has.

The best analogy I can think of is skate 3. I haven't played it in a while, but if I remember correctly, you press a button and then you see a replay of what happened in the last game session. You can move the camera, pause it and take a screenshot, and save the recording. Other games have similar systems as well. As I would LOVE to see this in KSP, I doubt the devs would want to work on it over things like bugfixes and part balancing.

I would quite like this feature.

An option to turn it off would be sensible, and a toggle for showing/hiding the UI on playback.

Definitely not a priority for the devs, but probably a candidate for integrating an existing mod though

No apologies needed. It's just that this is one of those things the game really could use and therefore gets suggested several times per year.

I too made this very same suggestion a few years ago and I am still convinced it does not need to take that much memory or CPU cycles. In the mid '90's (20 years ago) the game TIE Fighter could replay entire missions from various different view points. The demands from KSP are of course a lot higher but so are the abilities of moder computers.

Can anyone recommend a mod that does this? I'd love to start making movies of my amazing spaceships (set to "Fanfare for the Common Man," of course) but I have no idea how to do it... other than setting Quicktime to record a screen capture, which is awkward and kludgy and difficult to hide the interface.

I would like it if the accelerometer (now seismometer?) could record the Gees during different parts of the flight and show the actual stats and graphs that would somehow contribute to the scientific progression of the tech tree. Also same thing for other scientific instruments.

How about a tab called the "Black Box" which can tell you the flight events as well as give replays of events?

Not a horrible idea... although before anyone brings it up, i don't think there should be a "black box" part. Most airplanes have them built in, among other reasons why i don't think it should be added.

Definitely not a part.
