Do you consider editing craft files cheating?

I know there has been a lot of discussion about what is cheating in this game but I'm interested in finding out what people's opinions are when it comes to editing craft files.

Personally I don't believe that there is anything that you can do in this game that is considered cheating considering all the mods that are available, but I want to know - what is your opinion on editing craft files?

I agree no such thing as cheating, only building in extreme is what I would call it. On the other hand the only cheating I could see being done would be during a Challenge and getting away with it which I would consider very childish!

Editing persistent file to add fuel to a craft in orbit: definitely cheating.

Editing persistent file to add a custom action group that you forgot to add during vehicle assembly: go for it.

Editing persistent file to fix a problem caused by a bug in KSP: it is your patriotic duty to do so.

no. What IS cheating is doing something that robs you or another player of something, anything that can provide a lesson or fun. Yes. This includes telling people a good mod, that lets face it really NEEDS to be made stock, mechjeb. It provides vital telemetry AND automation, and teaches you stuff.

Robbing people of their fun or chances to learn for any reason what so ever save for trolling people in a multiplayer environment (trolling is bullying and bullying is never acceptable) is cheating and that is the line in my sand.

Look, this is a single player game and there is no other player to which you are gaining illicit advantage over so, there be no cheating in ksp, save my examples above. Now lets all have fun

That's pretty much my take on it, but what if you edit a craft file to give your ship extra abilities and then make that file available for other players to download?

Is that considered:
A) Cheaty
B) A creative way to build ships
C) A mod
D) All the above

If it serves a good purpose.. Then its an evolution of the former.. Or something off the shelf retooled for a reason.. Common in the realworld

If I haddent done this.. My trains with thier diesel electric transmission originally from an edited jet engine turned pure alternator wouldnt have been possible..

Its all a progression.. And probably how most modders started :)

Its all those things and a credit to squad that we can do it at all

Dont microwave sausages though..use a frying pan

A frying pan? For sausage? No. You take an srb, bolt it to a test stand, then hit the ignighter with the sausage in place. THAT'S how you make sausage.

srsly tho, it's single player, who honestly cares about cheating? Well maybe those who are seeking validation for some action. Honestly, the only thing I consider hinkey is the use of hyper edit. Not because I think it's cheating, (it totally is in MY book) but because its kraken chum lol. Bait him at your own risk teehee!

Only persistence file editing is cheating.

I do that like once per two gaming sessions. It's the only way of keeping my save chugging along, with the amount of docking bugs I get! A search for "same vessel" in the file is mandatory before I consider a save stable enough for backup.

Rune. But yeah, I've never added resources while doing it. ;)

What about building a Millennium Falcon (or Starship Enterprise if you're a Trek fan) that runs on antimatter and can fly to and land on every planet in the Kerbol system in the stock game without refueling?

I wouldn't call that cheating... but I also wouldn't call it KSP.

Really?  You can download a Star Trek mod that allows you to fly the Enterprise at the speed of light.  All I did was create a craft file that sort of does the same thing...

I don't have a problem dancing with the Kraken!  That's what being a space pirate is all about.

Actually my original question has been answered, so I think this thread can be considered closed.
