So as those versions are coming out soon I was thinking. I monkey with my save file A LOT. I mean to breaking the game. And if I could have an option in settings to do that on Xbox 1 or ps4 that would be great.

You can save your game on a flash drive, from there it depends on the game. Hex editing is also a thing, and I've used stand-alone programs to modify certain games before, like adding custom rosters for console sports games.

We cant know for sure yet.

Of course not. Also, I wouldn't expect mods working either or being possible to install. Allowing mods would represent a security risk on consoles (open door to run arbritrary code, debugging, disassembly, etc), at least from the manufacturer's point of view. So, you'll have to use KSP the way it came in the box.

No.

Consoles are closed.

Like @BloodDusk said, allowing anyone to alter anything on a console poses a security risk.

No mods, no save-file editing (unless you jump through hoops like @r4pt0r mentioned).

Spoiler

This is why a game like Minecraft or KSP never 'succeeds' on a console the way it flourishes on PC.

It'll be a very fun rocket game, no doubt. But there are too many imbalances to make it work without mods. Maneuver nodes display dV, yet in stock you have no idea how much dV you have. Planetary intercepts become a gamble (or very tedious maneuvre node editing), or keeping track of a multi-vessel mission with multiple nodes will be a PITA without KAC.  No waypoint manager, no docking port alignment indicator, no collision FX, no clouds... it'll all have to wait for the charity of who-ever made the game.

As someone who plays only stock, your rant is of no concern to me, and I intend to play the heck out of it on my PS4. I also play unmodded minecraft on pc(realms must be vanilla), and with friends on my ps4, so....

That sounded meaner than i meant it to, so have a stickytounge face :sticktongue:

The console ports ought to force Squad to make their game better. With weaker processors KSP wants to be better optimised to run well, and without mods more features want to be in the core game.

The question is whether those improvements make it back into the PC version.

I'd say that the biggest issue to counteract for a game like KSP on consoles is not the lack of monkey patching ability.

How you make a game that's keyboard and mouse centric work entirely from a controller, which has a limited number of buttons?

The PlayStation's DS4 controller does have limited number of buttons just like anything, but there is a lot of them. There are 17 buttons, 2 joy sticks, and a touch pad. Then you have button combinations after that point (hold R1 then X, and so on and so on). So there is ALOT of buttons for Squad to work with. Shouldn't be too hard to do.

I hope they don't. Console ports are never made well.

I dont think any alterations to the game whatsoever will be allowed. You theoretically could, but it would be a pain and would take a VERY long time, you would essentially have to hack your console to do anything.

Just one more reason why I dont see consoles working for KSP

Been a playstation gamer since the PSX and yeah, there wont be ANY monkeying with save files on PS4. When I was still using my PS3, there were methods to pretty easily hex edit the save files. As far as I'm aware, and I could be wrong because I haven't had the need or desire to edit any PS4 saves, there is no way to edit the PS4 save files.

As for mods, that would be ENTIRELY up to the dev to develop and submit through Sony's strict approval process. The ONLY game I have seen period who seemed the slightest bit interested in this has been Farming Simulator 2015. They recenty released a free mod dlc pack for the PS4 version consisting of several pc player created mods chosen in a mod contest they held. I thought this was VERY cool of them.

As far as the controls, PS4 is completely keyboard and mouse compatible. I played FFXIV since beta up until a few months ago using a combo of kb/mouse and my controller. The console works flawlessly with kb/mouse. There is no denying that the PC certainly offers a more diverse experience with this game but the PS4 version should be able to offer a very enjoyable/playable version of this game. I plan on grabbing the PC version today but will most definitely grab the PS4 version as well as soon as it's released.
