I've landed close to a hundred times across over half the bodies in the game, and I've only once ran into an issue of landing on the edge of a terrain feature. Any time the landing fails, it is because of slope. I wholeheartedly agree

Not sure tbh if you do agree wholeheartedly or if your having a pop at me, however if I come across a slope which is too great I try to move my craft to another landing spot. If I cant, my landing fails :)

Hm, I've done a bit of Duna colonization in the past, and unfortunately none of my pics had any cliffs or otherwise steep areas.  If I remember correctly, most of the terrain is sloped, but usually between 2 and 5 degrees.  The only steeper areas were (obviously) the sides of hills, though even then it's usually only about 10 degrees slope.  As I was looking for flat spots I never took much note of steep areas.

And because why not, have some pics from my Duna colonies (you can even see the general slopiness in the background... not often steep):

(Buildings from Civilian Population mod; not sure if it's still supported)

:) a guy did land in a valley, but a planet has changed since then. a guy misses those interesting places (sorry, been watching GOT recently, can't stop talking like jaqen h'ghar)

That was back in 0.19 (I think, maybe 0.18) and since then Duna has been worked over by a steamroller and isn't half as interesting as it used to be.  There was also a ridge/mountain-range that was really interesting and fun to try and rover about on.  It's a Great pity that they changed that (and what was the gain in that change anyway?)

I started playing in 0.25 i didn't knew of the rework of duna, i never explored the planet a lot

I totally agree. Duna terrain used to be so much better. The steep cliffs and flat lowlands was stunning, looked much better from orbit and the surface. It is shown to great effect in your constellation video. Why oh why was it made worse..`? Given the tiny size of planets, you need that kind of terrain or it just becomes a sweeping, undulating sea of bland nothingness. This must change!

And to think that Duna is meant to represent our Mars in some ways... which has the highest mountain and the biggest canyon in the whole solar system, or so it is said at least.

I missed the days when the surface terrain was different, but I sure hope they will make planets more interesting at some point.

I was being genuine. I'm agreeing that the terrain needs to be made more hazardous.
