Forgot my lights!

So I was launching a small-medium rocket, with a small reusable Mun shuttle as the payload, but then I realized that forgot to add lights. Instead of reverting, I just throttled back and let the rocket slowly descend and touch down safely near the pad! Has this ever happened to you? When you forget something and just come back and land the whole rocket (I had only staged the SRBs:D). Maybe the pilot also forgot his keys or something.

When in testing mode and I realise I've forgotten something then I usually just stage as fast as possible just to see how badly wrong things will go (the Kerbal equivalent of range safety!).  Occasionally, for no other reason than because, I'll try to land a massive LV back on the launch pad....and then watch everything go all kinds of wrong as the launch pad crumples.

But in "real" mode, forgetting things like lights is a good reason to make use of KAS & KIS and fit the lights once in orbit.

I use KAS/KIS, and keep a full stocked maintenance/repair vehicle prepped and ready to go at all times just for stuff like this... Ladders, lights, antenna, and small docking ports frequently are forgotten on missions, and having a box of spares floating around is very cost-effective!

It's like packing for a trip. Something always gets forgotten. As someone who loves to include a drone core for that just-in-case moment, I have even started a mission without kerbals when they were rather important to the mission. It makes me imagine Mission Control all smiles at a successful liftoff, with the crew walking in a second later wondering when they were going to leave.

most of my "revert to VAB" cases are when Jeb is on a mission and i try to lunch another one just to find out, that a stupid engineer/scientist gets placed in the cockpit instead of Val. That annoying as hell.

Does someone by chance know a mod for that? ^^

"Revert to VAB" is probably my most used feature in the game!

Same here, I'm an "Approximate Engineer", I tend to just fling stuff together and launch it rather than spend ages planning all the details, so I tend to revert quite a lot :D

Strange, I have the opposite problems: those pesky pilots always snatching a seat from the engineers and scientists who has actual use.

Here's the mod to fix it.

Though I never used it. I -want- the common problems to happen from time to time, these make missions fun..

I'm always forgetting things.  Batteries, lights, solar panels, antennas, landing legs. Forgot my engines once. Yes, engines.

As for pilots/engineers/scientists, yeah, I've had 'em end up in the wrong seats.  Pilots in the science lab, engineers in my pilot's seats, scientists in the rover repair capsules.  On the flipside, it's an excuse to do EVA's.

I've launched vehicles meant not to come back to anything with an atmosphere, and regretted it when it (once) failed to achieve orbit hehe ...

As for lights, well, eva suits have 'em, let them take shifts lighting up the landing site. Land in daylight :)

I don't revert, option turned off, makes it more fun for those "Doh!" moments.

I use Kerbal Constuction Time and wasn't able to build my first Duna Scansat in time for the optimum launch window, so it launched a little late.  It's now about ten days into it's 408 day transit, and when I had a look at it I found that an error had occurred, that reminded me of a real-life Mars cock-up.  "Someone" got a decimal point in the wrong place, and the Remotetech antenna is not capable of reaching Kerbin.

Recovery plans are underway, and a high-energy vessel is being built with an antenna capable of talking back to Kerbin.  It will catch up with the existing probe, latch on with a claw, and enable comms.  Whether it has enough delta-v to do this, is anybody's guess...

Months ago my wife put a post-it note on my monitor with "ADD LIGHTS THEN LAUNCH" written on it in crayon to remind me to avoid exactly this mistake. It was soon joined by "DON'T FORGET MANEUVERING JETS" and "REFUEL BEFORE UNDOCKING."

You sir, have one heck of an extraordinary wife.  XD

Have an service station in LKO, also tend to send spares out to planetary bases.
Build an satellite with them in Duna orbit :)

Five vessels carrying modules for my duna base on the way, including a research lab. But no antenna anywhere.

I just recently started using the RemoteTech mod, which makes it a lot easier to remember to include an antenna, at least on uncrewed probes... 'cos if you don't, it's not leaving the launchpad!

Sounds like this is really a good way to remember adding an antenna. :D

Yeah but it doesn't help with remembering to turn the damn things on.  I recently launched a probe to Minmus, and the first time I undocked it from the l launch SSTO (crewed so no antenna issues) I forgot to turn it's omin-directional antenna on.  Reload.  As it was Ion powered I decided to leave the longer range directional transmitter turned off until it had done the burn to get it out to Minmus orbit, and then turn it on before it got out of range of the Omni-directional...but forgot... Reload.

I don't understand how people have the patience to play this game in hard mode without revert or quicksaves.  I'd bankrupt myself through my own stupidity within half a dozen mission.

I did a 'hardcore' Mun landing once. I did the math (ok a mod did). I left 10% leeway on ascent and transfers, 40% on the landing, as doing the perfect suicide burn is hard enough with saves too. I double checked stuff. I was paying attention to every detail.

Success was cool, but the process didn't feel so. I found it isn't as cool as -not- paying attention while coping with my stupidity. As I'm getting more experienced in KSP, I feel I concentrate less and less. And I enjoy the results greatly.

Not long ago when I was about to rescue a kerbal on LKO, I had to notice that the craft I sent couldn't be boarded, and had no parachutes. Mission was a success anyways. Now -that- was cool. ^_^
