Make brakes default to 'on' at launch?

Recommended Posts

I just designed a rocket in the VAB whose aircraft landing gear all ended up parallel.  I hit launch, and while messing with settings before launch, the rocket hilariously rolled off the launch pad and exploded.  And I'm sure everyone has had the same problem with planes on the runway, though that doesn't usually lead to explosions.

There must be a quick Module Manager patch to have brakes default to 'on' at launch?  I've found similar ones for the navball in Map view, zeroing the throttle at launch, etc.  I have zero idea how to make one or where to start.  Thanks!

There are at least two mods for this.

Thanks.

There was a thread discussing this,  and the default throttle settings, not long ago actually.

Unfortunately brief 'there's a mod for that' replies don't help everyone, or add much to the discussion,  but it's nice to be pointed towards them.

I've never used wheeled vehicles out of the VAB, but having to hit 'brakes' right after launching from the SPH is annoying gameplay.

Almost as annoying as having to hit T Z right after launching from the VAB, or being caught during a near-perfect bank job and talked into joining the Special Corps.

Well, T & Z are at least optional when launching.. setting the brakes on a wheeled vehicle, on the other hand, is pretty much an essential first step.

But then by default all my reentry airbrakes will be deployed when my rocket load, and I have to wait for them to slowly undeploy before I can launch.

Worse, some rockets could have been setup with the geometry so that on the pad, if you deploy the airbrakes they will shove aside the boosters around the core and cause rapid unscheduled disassemble, the assumption that the airbrakes are reentry aid and you will never deploy them until reentry when all the boosters are long gone.

Welp, Malah's Quick Brake mod does exactly this and nothing else (great) and makes my game freeze when launching (not so great).  Moving on...

I get that this is a trivial matter, have your fun.  But I don't miss the nuisance of bringing up the navball in Map View every single time I play; this is just a similar nuisance.  Feel free to ignore you don't find it to be a nuisance.

These are good points ^^.

Perhaps what's needed are separate toggleable default on/off settings for the runway and launchpad.

Also...  We can set the 'starting' position in the editors part by part, but how about a ship specific 'start with brakes on/off' checkbox in the editors?
