It takes off and lands as a normal airplane. A bit unstable at high angles of attack but you can do it to make the old crew complain over the radios. Oops. I haven't installed any. But check the album description to see how they felt previously.

I wrote configs for impulse engines, phasers and a warp core. The phasers are resized, recoloured and further adapted BDA lasers.

At least manually aiming works but in space the AI consistenly fires in front of the enemy. Don't know what's wrong.

Whoa ... you're talking a major increase in difficulty here. The amount of curvature makes it hard even though the Big D is more than twice as large than a Connie refit. And getting the lighting right on those MKXII warp engines ...

It will be a lot easier with my upcoming mod though, even building it at true scale. Yep, the whole 641 x 466 x 138 meters. And one day with the 42 decks as well.

A small update. The Miranda control problems have been solved although it still can be vicious at high angles of attack. It's mass is comparable with the Constitution yet has a higher drag while stacking the same amount of engines but less fuel. Powerless flight means a brick, forget landings. So it's slower and has less range. Not that anyone would use these airplanes for anything serious.

 

The big fun will be in a thin atmosphere with very low gravity, and low engine power. This way you can have slow battles with a top speed and some aero friction, mimicking the battles of the big screen. A Miranda together with a Constitution Refit is perfect for something like that.
